You collect these shards on the Blade's Edge Plateaus.
I believe they are used to activate boss fights, and have some item rewards from these activations.
They are used for various quest hand-ins, too, and to purchase items from the Ogri'la Quartermaster.
A nice way to gather several if you chance upon the opportunity is to pay attention if you're near Bash'ir landing and happen to hear a Bash'ir Arcanist yell something like "Realign the crystal forge!". If you go to the crystal forge (54.10, roughly) shortly after the yell, there will be three human/orc/whathaveyou Manadebt Slaves there. Each, when killed, drops several shards (I got 3, 2 and 3 from my kills).
If you get 10 of these, and use a Depleted Crystal Focus (another items that drop's of Bash'ir Ethereum mobs), you will get a Charged Crystal Focus. This instantly restores 2000 health, but has other uses which I still haven't managed to figre out.
These are also found patrolling to the far East, searching for the apexis shards themselves. The mana-debted-slaves use a health funnel on the arcanist. Arcanist also uses a stasis on you that prevents you from moving/attacking for roughly 5 seconds while you are still damaged.
As mentioned, 2/3 per kill leads to 6/9 per group.
you can take 10 Apexis shards to 29, 81 in the forge camp terror and make potions that only work in Blades Edge Mountains, Including Gruuls Lair.

"Infuse depleted items to activate their true power"
If I forgot something fell free to fill me in.
You can also just collect these from "apexis crystal formations" guarded by Apexis flayers.
Buy blue/red ogre brew with these and sell them back for money, if you need cold hard cash or just the bag space.
Rogues can collect them by sapping the flayers guarding the crystal formations and simply looting them. No combat involved. :)
If you've been doing daily quests for a while, you will no doubt end up with a big pile of these, even if you're buying flasks and potions for Gruul and whatnot.
The shards can't be vendored directly, but you can buy potions and flasks and then vendor those (or auction them if that works on your server). Going only by vendoring, each shard is worth 2.3 silver, regardless of what you buy with them.
I've discovered a way to "convert" these into money... it ain't much, but it's good when you have a whole damn lot of these hanging around.
Go to the Ogri'la Quartermaster, buy a whole load of blue/red potions (it doesn't matter which), and then sell them back.
A red potion (2 shards) sells for 4s 60c, and the blue potions (3 shards) sell for 6s 90c.
So a shard is worth 2s 30c.
The spam right click a potion of choice, and then sell it back. =]
Im talking about the red/blue ogre brews by the way, not the Crystal potions.
From the 2.4 Patch Notes:
Elites in Blade’s Edge Plateau Regions: These creatures now have an increased chance to drop rare depleted items.
Anyone used extra Apexis Shards to summon bosses from the Dragon Eggs, Fel Formations or Monuments?
Was thinking it would be a good use for extra Apexis Shards instead of buying potions with them and reselling. I have about 11 stacks over 3 characters that I need to do something with :)
Blizzard should implement a way to convert a bunch (say, 500) of Apexis Shards into one Apexis Crystal. (Especially because since the Shattered Sun content was released, it's nigh impossible to get a group in Ogri'La anymore.)
It would make a lot of sense that a bunch of shards could be joined to form a single larger crystal. That would also be a lot better than converting them into cash by wasting a half hour buying and selling potions.
they r used to buy stuff from Jho'nass, the ogri'la quartermaster
These are used to purchase items from the Ogri'la quartermaster and also to summon many different 5 man mobs for Ogri'la rep quests (5 man mobs also drop an Apexis Crystal which is rolled for by the party that is also used to buy items from the quarter master). They are also needed in certain quests to activate items and also in Blades Edge Mountains some 'depleted' items are dropped which require shards to power up to the full item. Shards can drop off any mob in the Ogri'la area of BEM, picked up from Crystal Shard formations, and as a reward from many Ogri'la and Sha'tari Skyguard quests.
Do NOT click on any of the devices where this shard is to be used, unless you are sure its the device you want.......If you have 10 shards in your bag, they will be consumed and you'll get at flask of something.............
Anyone know what these are used for?
Seems like this will be the item you have to farm endlessly to get the Ogri'la faction. Farm shards off mobs around their camp, then use the shards to play the games like 'simon' or summon a bird to kill, or fill drops with shards to power them...etc.
No, he's talking about this:
Badge of Tenacity
Binds when equipped
Requires Level 70
Use: Increases agility by 150 for 20 sec.
Cooldown: 2 min
Do you have to do anything to get these? Or will they drop as soon as you start killing mobs in the area these can drop?
Similarly, will the "depleted" items drop automatically, or is there a prereq. for that?
No prereq. I haven't even been to Ogri'la yet and got the Shards and Depleted things from mobs in Bash'ir.
Is 250 the most you can have w/ these? If so whats the most productive way to get rid of them?
If you find you've got an ass-load to many of these, just buy Red and Blue Ogre Brews and sell 'em. Each crystal shard is worth 2 Silver and 30 Copper doing this. I dun got 23 Gold for selling the 1000 I had wasting my bag space.
It annoys me grren and blue that, when at a vendor, mouseover-ing these shows that each of these are worth 5 g, but no merchants want them /:
I remember seeing something when asked to the bash'irs landing assault. Save your shards for this.
dont waste your shards on pots, save them for meta gems and the like.
Yeah, 1000 Shards seems like a lot. How many do they stack in? you can only get there by flying mount (someone asked in earlier post)
I don't think it's worthwhile farming these. From just one day of doing my dailies i get 60 of these from the quests in Ogri'la and the neighboring Skyguard camp. The dailies take 5 seconds to do and reward you fifteen for each quest. I think i have about 2000 in my bank (lol) and have never farmed any of them i just do dailies.
