This item will make resist fights infinitely easier to prepare for. Hopefully other resistances are added. At the moment, the mats seem extremely reasonable. For those that don't know, this item essentially works like the warlock soul well where raid members click on the object on the ground to receive the desired item (in this case the fr potion).
So, where can you get the cauldrons?
Takes 2 Primal Fire not Primal Mana. Also anybody have any idea what a good price for one is?
Don't forget that protection potions have been drastically nerfed to a 2 min duration and still share a cool down with Healing and Mana pots.
Quaffing one before a boss fight isn't nearly as advantageous as it used to be.
An important note about the potions these cauldrons create: they are unique and soulbound meaning each raid member can only have 1 at a time and they cannot be traded. Cauldrons are not a means of stocking up on potions for specific fights (ie: the tanks can't get 10 Arcane Protection Potions each from the cauldron for the Curator) but rather providing the entire raid with a little bit of protection.
Keep this in mind when making these cauldrons.
The chance to "Discover" this is VERY high, making a few normal Greater FIre Protection Potions should get you the discovery in short order.
In my case, I got it on my first try.
Item that grants this discovery:
Requirements to make a discovery
You must be crafting a potion, elixir, flask or performing a transmutation that was added in TBC.
As a rule of thumb that's anything that is learnt from a master alchemy trainer, dropped from a mob in outland or purchased from a vendor in outland. The only real exceptions are the pre-TBC flasks that have been made available from faction vendors in outland.
NOT requirements to make a discovery
You don't need to be in outland
You don't need a mastery
You don't need to be 375 alchemy
You don't need to be level 70
You don't need to craft yellow or orange recipes to make discoveries. Even grey recipes can proc discoveries
You don't need to be crafting a related recipe *except* in the case of cauldrons (You can discover flasks when making potions for example)
List of recipes learned by discovery (accurate as of 29/01/2008)
Flask of Blinding Light
Flask of Fortification
Flask of Mighty Restoration
Flask of Pure Death
Flask of Relentless Assault
Super Rejuvenation Potion
Earth to Life
Life to Earth
Shadow to Water
Water to Shadow
Fire to Mana
Mana to Fire
- To discover these you need to be crafting the related major protection potion. Cauldron of Major Holy Protection is believed to be non-existent. The discovery of these recipes is much more likely.
Cauldron of Major Arcane Protection
Cauldron of Major Fire Protection
Cauldron of Major Frost Protection
Cauldron of Major Nature Protection
Cauldron of Major Shadow Protection
These cauldrons can be discovered by any alchemist regardless of skill level or specialty. The discovery of cauldrons is reported to have a very high proc rate, usually within the first few batches.
The Cauldron can only be discovered while making the associated potion. Major Fire Protection Potion yields Cauldron of Major Fire Protection.
There is no Holy Protection Cauldron (I made about 13 batches before i read this somewhere, now i have 65 Holy Prot Potions).
The Major Holy, Shadow and Arcane Protection Potion recipes are world drops and can be solo'd for. The rest are instance drops, or rep reward.
HA this thing is great, got it after making one major fire protection pot.
gonna use it for aran tonight
Wow, VERY useful for raids! Mats are very reasonable too, considering what you can get out of it.
I believe that the cauldrons are discovered while making high-level potions/elixirs.
I discovered this cauldron while making a Major Fire Protection potion. I am elixir spec. I believe you discover cauldrons while making elemental protection potions, discover transmutes while transmuting and discover the potions/flasks/elixirs while making potions/flasks/elixirs.
I was reading up here about cauldrons, decided to try and learn how to make one. I bought the mats for major fire protection potion, for one stack of five, made it, and learned to make this cauldron. So no, there is no minimum amount required to learn a cauldron. I believe it's random.
You learn the recipes for the cauldrons while making the corresponding major protection potions.
For example: making major fire protection potions will let you discover the cauldron of major fire protection, making major nature protection potions will make you discover the cauldron of major nature protection, and so on....
What specialisation of alchemy you are doesn't seem to matter. (as i am transmutation)
You seem to learn the cauldron recipes quite fast too. I only had to make 5 stacks of major nature protection potions (you always create those kind of potions in stacks of 5) and 4 stacks of major frost protection before discovering the cauldrons. It could be a coincidence but i don't think it is.
discovered the potion form and made a stack for the mech boss mostly cuz i wanted to use the recipe. after finding out how making these procs the cauldron i made 3 more with the last of my thistle. proced on the third. was hard risking all those primals but maybe now worth it. c'mon im hoping for shadow next
I am having bad luck with all the cauldrons. I have made countless stacks (a few at a time) to no avail.
I wonder if:
Do you NEED to make them 5 at a time?
Do you have be a "Master of..." One of the three (Potions, Elixirs or Transmutes) before you can unlock?
Do you have to be Lvl.70? (I am LVl.69 atm)
If anyone has any rejection to any of these reasonings please post so I know they aren't the culprit.
I had to make 4 stacks of Major Shadow Protection Potions before i learned it's cauldron (4 Primal Shadows, buh-bye!) and 2 stacks of Major Arcane Protection Potions before discovering it's cauldron, you usually learn them pretty quickly, but it can take some time
Blind luck, discovered it when I made my first major fire protection potion.
anyone tried to make these in arena and use the conjured item ? please post
since this is conjured, does that also mean it disappears after logging out?
So learning to make cauldrons is random but is there a required alchemy level for it to proc?
Cauldron ability popped after I created my third potion. Alchemy skill was 266 at the time.
