The dodge rating on this ring is not ideal for bears, but provides more avoidance then any +def/armor ring. It also has nearly the best stam and armor in slot. I would prefer AGI but then it would not be ideal for Plate.
Great upgrade to other armor/def rings if your already crit immune.
Another really good choice is
which still has decent armor, stam and Expertise for more threat and burst damage mitigation. And seems reasonably easy to obtain. (ideal for a threat tanking set)
I've noticed that resilience no longer affects the chance to be crit anymore with the new patch, so we tanking druids are stuck with reaching the cap of 2.56% on defense alone :(
This is easily one of the best tanking rings in the entire game for any class; For warirors and paladins the value in this ring lies purely in effective health. 45 stamina on a ring is beastly, and the armor bonus is vastly underrated - armor gives the same boost to effective health and mitigation at almost every level of armor. What appears on your character sheet is not fully representative on how the math actually works.
While obviously this ring is best suited for druids who get the mutliplication to armor, I would use this ring over virtually any other piece of jewelry in the game, and the price is absolutely right. Any tank can pick this up after a mere three full clears of Kara, or less than one week of badge grinding. Considering that this is easily on par with Tier 6 loot, it's invaluable to fresh 70s, tanks for guilds still progressing through the 10 man/low 25 man content, and even for people already doing the tier 6 instances, it's still an amazing piece of equipment. I plan on picking this up as soon as the vendor on Ysera opens up. It's a huge upgrade over the previous armor-based badge ring(Or it's Kara equivelant, the Shermanar Great Ring) and unlike many of the other options available from this badge vendor, it's not geared for trash tanking/threat sets. By far the best 'pure tanking option' of the lot.
The "achievement" is actually beating the content and seeing the end of the game. If you are raiding for gear, and the feeling it gives you to have better gear than others, you are &*!@#$ed. Congrats. And chances are with an attitude like that, the only thing that separates you from other players is more free time. Raiders who raid for gear and not content tend to be the less-skilled raiders that bounce around guilds. Many badge farmers, and MOST hardcore PVPers, are significantly more skilled than the gear-guild-hoppers.
So no, the "achievement" is not gone. In fact, I wish the badge-farmers and PVPers DID have more free time, because then my raids would probably go smoother.
i like badge gear because not all guilds are able to progress strictly by going into the 10 and 25 man instances for gear. how many times have any of us been in guilds where a certain boss just isn't passable?
now there's at least a way to get better prepared without being roadblocked for a frustrating amount of time.
think back to pre-tbc, when people were limited to whatever gear their guilds were able to farm. ubrs was pretty boring after a while for casual players. at least badge gear makes all the game content more accessible for everyone, not just casuals.
Just have to say this. While I applaud the achievements and dedication of those who raid BT, the VAST MAJORITY of the players of WOW will never have access to end game raid content. These are the people who are actually paying for 99% of the development of the product that the end game raiders enjoy so much. Blizzard is trying to balance things and make it so that a player who spends 8 hours a week (say) on the game has access to quality items regardless of whether that 8 hours is spent on PVP, running a couple of Heroics or running Hyjal. High end players should applaud this because it encourages more players pursuing more different routes to gear that makes them feel they are progressing, keeps subscriptions up and revenue flowing which allows for continuing development of content. Looking at the items its not like the badge gear equals the stuff from BT, its just closer. With Lich King coming I'm sure the gap will widen again, then close again to keep more casual players engaged. Frankly it seems absurd and cheap for BT raiders to carp about others (who may spend similar total time on the game, but certainly spend similar monthly subscription fees) having access to quality items.
I want to add my 2 pence as well.... Not all of us can enjoy end game raiding, larger raiding guilds steal the best players from guilds lower down the food chain and its VERY difficult to move from 10 man raiding to 25's (hence all raids in Wotlk will be 10 man as well) and my experience from end game raiding guilds is they just suck the enjoyment out of the game but trying to get a guild into 25's is practically impossible without getting guild hopers and idiots knocking you 2 steps back for each step forward. The badge gear also allows us to be more prepared for 25's once we can finally find 25 mature players that are capable of using a guild calendar!
This ring is nice since it would improve my effective health. Adding a lot of stamina and armor as a decent (reliable) migitation and a whopping amount of avoidance.
One would think to miss defense value on this ring, but there are so many items with high defense now, i can spare a ring slot for these highly desirable tank attibutes.
for more info on effective health theory)
Could ignorant people please stop posting useless argumentative crap about rights to good gear based on end game raiding or badge equivilance? You are destroying the simplicity of the purpose of the thread; to discuss the attributes of the item.
First off, this ring is PIMP. It has a whopping 45 stamina which is half a grand of health right there. Dodge rating is amazing for pure avoidance and the armor increment is also noticeably large.
NOTE: Rings now have the potential to have more armor value than pre-BC warrior / pally tier items. Ludicrous? I think it's pretty damn awesome.
Some droods, pallies or warrs will gripe about this ring not containing any defense rating. Shut up. Have you not seen the other badge gear offered from this badge vendor? The defense rating for tanking gear offered from the badge vendor in shatt / quel'danas is through the roof, thus negating all need for additional defense rating in peripheral gearing.
Save up those badges and grab all the badge gear to be prepared for Hyjal and on.
This is a thread about an item in the game! Not about who can spam the most!
So what i wanted to say is, i think this ring is made with druids in mind. It has huge armor bonus, huge stamina bonus and dodge.
Although it doesn't mean the other two tanking classes can't benefit a lot from this ring! And personally i'm going for it with my paladin.
The reason i think it's meant for druids, is that druid tanks will keep using it in endgame dungeons.
For tier4-5 geared tanks of any kind, this is "the one ring" to rule them all! :D As said before, defense rating comes in high ammounts from the other badge rewards.
