This dagger offers nearly identical DPS to Wub's Cursed Hexblade for a mage when you have to resocket to make up for the lost spell hit. If you don't have to resocket for hit, you can get another 14 dps out of this dagger so when you factor in the 42 stamina this is a pretty substantial upgrade from WCH. This dagger is also a pretty nice upgrade over Fang of the Leviathon with around 11 more dps and 14 stamina.
Best weapon until Tempest of Chaos?
Max hit without weapon or sockets:
Scryer's Blade of Focus
Max hit with weapon and/or sockets:
Wub's Cursed Hexblade
This does seem like some perfect lovin' for your local pre-BT boomkin/shaman/spriest who can afford to dump a little +hit for more damage. I know this will be the first thing I spend my badges on come 2.4.
I currently have the Blade of Twisted Visions off of Zul'jin, and while this weapon is nice - I most likely won't be using it over the Blade... I might grab it for a stam upgrade though.
In 2.4, Zul'jin's blade is getting buffed to 229 dmg and it's getting 33 more stam than it has now. That will make the Scryers Blade have 18 more +dmg with a few extra stats, but I'm guessing that from a mage caster DPS perspective, 21 spell haste > 18 dmg.
While this weapon lacks +hit it more than makes up for it in raw damage. The most spell damage anyone is likely to get out of their weapon slot if they are not in BT or Hyjal is 225, 217 without a s2 weapon.
Most casters are not too terribly concerned about the hit cap as it is easily reachable with just a few pieces of swap-out gear. I actually prefer to have my +hit packed into a few items that I can easily put on for bosses so that I'm not wasting itemization trying to hit things that I'd be hitting anyway.
This weapon is great overall because it makes excellent use of the main hand slot by loading up on a stat that is useful ALL the time instead of only situationally. And it has a LOT of it. Personally I will be replacing my Amani Punisher with this dagger and won't look back. I don't have any +hit gems in my gear now and I don't plan to after the patch either, it is just a matter of getting 2-3 good pieces of swap-out gear for bosses and then you will never worry about your spell hit rating again. That ends up making this blade a 100% upgrade over the Punisher.

Vengeful Gladiator's Spellblade
is still better than this one for PvE because of the spellhit
even if this is PvP item (see resilience)
Sadly Dairylee, Paladins are unable to wield daggers.
I have wished we could since I first rolled my pally, over 2 years ago.
Personally, as an affliction warlock I won't be replacing my merciless spellblade (with soulfrost) even for pve. The 150 badges I can find a better use for them elsewhere to lose the 15 hit rating for 22 spell damage. As for the extra stam and int I still don't see it worth it. By the time I see myself changing this I'd hope to be in BT or Hyjal. Anyone else have any comments?
this weapon is useless for PvE-mages.
This weapon have one HUGE problem.
how I wish they coudl have made this a sword for us protectionpalys starving for some love.
Before raiding there are only really 3 viable choices.
Or geting a pvp weapon.
Since Arena isn´t that hot for a protection paladin and I refuse to hang out in the BG´s with all scrubs who think they are hot because they are full epic and wipe a normal dungeon 4-5 times because they have no skill (how I wish wizards removed the possibility to buy gladiator gear for honour) and
is a random lucky drop there´s only really one choice. Now Continuum Blade isn´t to bad for a starter weapon but it would be nice to atleast get some choises.
Either that or add a healing mace/spelldmg sword/whatever axe at master waponsmiths, for us Black Smiths that doens´t look for DPS weapons in the first place.
And to all the other posts, saying this is just a side grade to this or that I think more options are wonderful and everyone doens´t have 200 badges stored in their bank so it is possible they haven´t got this other item and for people who compare this to BT-gear just remember everyone doesn´t run BT and alot of people will never do to time issus for example. Makeing this fare more likely to obtain.
This is the third best main hand weapon for Shadow Priest according to Shadowpriest.com :
that is assuming Tainty that you have access to either of those weapons i dont but i can get the badges for this and i know more than a few people in the same boat as me
In my guild we've had terrible drop-rates with caster weapons, only 3 Bloodmaws, 1 Fang ever dropped. So i've been using Bloodmaw for a long time. According to maxdps.com with my high +dmg, capped hit etc this dagger gives - 190.95dps. (Compared to Bloodmaw's 156.93dps.) and only Zul'Jin and Archimonde swords top it.
I'm picking this up and slapping a Sunfire on it. With about +40dmg extra coming in i can regem for more crit. Even as a Mage(or any crit based class/spec) this is worth getting!
This weapon is nice for alts as hopefully your main at this point in the game has a better weapon.
It isnt great, but it is better then carrying a blue around complaining that you cant get anything better.
This weapon is nice for alts as hopefully your main at this point in the game has a better weapon.
Most likely, it won't. The only better weapons include the staff, mace, and dagger from Sunwell Plateau, the staff from Illidan, and sword from Archimonde, and the Season 3 weapon. The sword from Zul'jin, the mace from BT/Hyjal trash, and the dagger from Naj'entus are about on par with this, depending on your class and other stats, but don't unquestioningly beat it.
Since all but two of these weapons aren't even available until T6, and those two are still rather difficult to get, it is highly unlikely that your average level 70 will have anything better, or really anything even remotely close.
I hate to break it to you, but you are the one who is completely wrong. Most fights in BT require you to have 10k buffed HP, and a lot of mages struggle with that. Taking pieces without stamina when starting to raid BT is a bad idea, and 420 extra hit points makes a big difference. If you focus on "dps and dps alone" then you will get blowed up so fast it isn't even funny, and those 420 HP will allow you to stack more DPS stats elsewhere (for example, by not having to put the hybrid blue gems in your blue sockets and stacking more damage/haste there instead). If you think you can get by in BT wearing your glass cannon Spellstrike/Spellfire set with a Wub's blade, you are in for a nasty shock. If you think you can get by in BT with the same HP that got you through Kara, that tells me you have no idea what you're talking about. There is a reason why stamina scales up on higher level items along with the other stats, and why most caster pieces come with stamina. You don't want to stack it, but you definitely need some; this blade will help get you there, Wub's will not.
Not only that, but the DPS stats on the badge blade are better than Wub's. 30 spell damage beats 13 spell hit and 20 crit any day of the week, and twice on Sundays. With the craptacular scaling of spell crit rating, the extra spell damage comes out a few points ahead even when looking solely at DPS stats. I'm betting you think Wub's is better because the stats are more "balanced", but in fact for people who have access to both of these weapons 13 spell hit rating is a very small amount, I would not rate its value higher than say 15 spell damage. Given that rough equivalence you are left with 20 spell crit rating vs. 15 spell damage. In order for the 20 crit to be better than 15 spell damage, you need to have about 1800 spell damage unbuffed. You don't.
And yes, the Tempest of Chaos is obviously better, but it is also a higher level item and it is stupid to compare something that drops off the final boss in Hyjal to something that can be purchased with badges. Not to mention that not every class that can use this dagger is also able to use swords.
Let's compare this weapon and its cost vs other weapons. I am going to compare this weapon for mages only now .
This weapon VS Merciless Gladiator Spellblade
140.96 VS 137.40 dps .
An obvious win of the scryer blade. The sear +stats and +damage of this weapon is enough to outshadow the +15 Hit rating of the Merciless Gladiator Spellblade. Still some players with low hit rating (~90) might want to stick with the merciless gladiator blade. The cost of the Merciless is roughly 2700 arena rating making it around ~6 weeks for an average player that has 1600~ rating on arena while the Scryer Blade needs 4 full kara runs or around 35~ heroics +dailys.
This weapon VS The Maelstrom's Fury
140.96 VS 140.96
A DPS tie, thats something rare to see. Now its only left to the common player to dicide what is best for his character now, 1% crit or a bit more intellect and stamina. My personal suggestion is that players that lacks HP/MP should take the Scryer Blade cause Mount Hyjal and Black Temple are not so forgiving to players with less than 7.3k life unbuffed. Once again the cost of the scryer blade is 4 full kara runs or around 35~ heroics +dailys while the Maelstrom Fury is a rare drop from the first boss of the black temple which is pretty easy btw.
This Weapon VS Blade of Twisted Visions
140.96 VS 141.23
This weapon lose at a dps output . Still not many people have managed to see the last boss of Zul'aman and even if they did its not sure that they took the Blade of Twisted Visions cause not only its quite rare to drop but more people will want to roll for it. Its better to take the scryer blade simply because its far easily optainable.
Once again the cost of the scryer blade is 4 full kara runs
At 22badges per full Kara Clear you'd be looking at 7 full Kara Clears...
More realistically, it would be 5 weeks of running one full kara clear and two heroics.
this would be a good tankadin weapon, if only it was a sword....
This is good for what it is for.
And what is it for you might ask?
It is for people who can only jump into Kara every week or so to farm badges.
However, if you can get anywhere past t4 content, this is just bad. Even getting into ZA gets you a better weapon, Blade of Twisted Visions.
This weapon is just not that good simply because the fact is has no other spell stats except damage.
Hit/Crit/Haste are so necessary on a caster weapon past t4 that the other weapons you can get simply just outshadow the reasons as to why you would get this weapon.
Matters on the toon. For a shadow priest, we hit cap at 76, which is pretty easy to get even with out a +hit weapon. We also get squat for returns on Crit % since we only have 2 spells that are capable of critting, and both have significant cool downs. And Haste, while nice, is only more important than +Damage to shadow priests once they start getting topped out on damage (1400+ buffed) and for specific fights where there is a lot of movement, or burst damage time (Curator/Kael).
In short, this is a damn good weapon for a Shadow Priest who isn't clearing ZA or progressing into SW.
i would say that this weapon is great for raiders that really havent gotten to end game content yet such as bt/hyjal.
I would use this weapon only if my spell hit was close to caped
Fire Mage hit cap 140-164
Spriest hit cap 60+
Destruction Warlock hit cap 140+
but this does beat any weapon in the game before bt/hyjal due to its high spell damage and stats
the high stats on the blade as well also helps casters
Ex: Mages/Spriest with health issues due to that they have trouble getting a high ammount of health without having to lose an extrenous ammount of spell damage and spell hit. Definite a weapon for t5 raiders who have not come in contact with archimonde and below.
You really have to burn your PC if u want to grab that thing fast enough...!!!
Around 9-10 Heroics per day means around 35 Badges....!!!! And a Full Kara Clear means another 22
So 4-5 Days are enough of getting it :D
Hammer of Judgement may be a better alternative for those who can wear maces. It loses stam, int, and damage but gains hit, it's also a drop from Hyjal, so if you don't do Hyjal, then this may be a better option. However, for those who are doing Hyjal, it may be better to wait for the HoJ to drop rather than spend badges unless you can spare it but given that there are also epic gem vendors now, hardly anyone have badges to throw away.
I would prefer this on my ele shaman over a wub's blade easily as well, Ele shamans cap at 52 for spell hit and I believe its only 39 for ally shamans assuming you have totem of wrath and the spell hit talents. If this had spell crit (and / or spell haste) on it I would almost go as far as saying its one of the better ele shaman weapons ingame. The badge cost is rather high but i think its a good price based on how useful the dagger is.
If paladins only could use daggers.... Then this would be an awesome tankadin weapon!
Aww... beaten by 19 hours. I just came to say, as a tankadin, I find this weapon offensive.
I'm a Lock and I just got this bad boy and popped a Soulfrost enchant,
, on it. 301 spell damage is insane, even more so considering it's just your mainhand. I'm still using the Orb of the Soul-Eater offhand,
, as well, which means with just my weapon and offhand I'm at 352 bonus spell damage. My guild is just starting into SSC/TK and I have to tell you, I'm extremely happy with the results these two put out. I'm sure there are better endgame items out there, but considering how easy this is to get, you're talking about insane boost to your DPS with just badges. Hell, you don't even have to run Kara before you get these two!
Let's buy this for disenchanting! :D
This Blade is the best in slot DPS item for SP and Elemental Shaman outside of Sunwell and OP Brutal Glad gear. It is stupid good.
The stm is awesome because like someone already mentioned, you need health in BT. Some fights even require it. If you try to kill Naj'entus in your Spellfire set and have less than 8k health you'll probably get insta-gibbed by the Spine, or even die because your low hp pool got you owned before someone could pull the spine out of you.
You can't DPS if you can't survive the predictable burst damage in the encounter. Have fun killing Illidari Council when you have 8k health when and are getting insta-gibbed by a bad combo. Or if Teron targets you for constructs near the end of the encounter when the shadow damage is getting higher and higher, and your low health pool causes you to die in the middle of the raid and release your constructs, which will cause a wipe, which will lead to you getting yelled at, hated on, and labaled a "retard who needs to hearth if targeted for constructs" by your guild.
You can buy it from the badge vendor in the Shattered Sun area for 150 badges. You have to retake the armory on your server, however.
your server has to be in phase 3 to be able to purchase.
I don't know what to think about this dagger. Sure, It has very high spell but I'm a Destrucion warlock looking for lots of Crit. It would be an extra 43 spell dmg tahn my current dagger, but would that be worth the loss of 23 spell crit rating?
Oh and FYI, my current dagger is
Has anyone actually purchased this item or are we all speculating?
It just seems to me that...well...150 badges! Its an aweful lot. Worth it?
what makes it so good is the pure spell damage plus the fact that you can have an off-hand. Definately worth the 150 badges, just go out and find an off-hand with some nice spell crit rating.
Shadow Priest imo... we have hardly any use for crit at all and an extra 30 stam and 10 int from nathrezim mindblade is ridiculous. Well worth the 150 badges.
definitely an awesome weapon, and even more awesome is the fact that is has so muchs stamina! gonna see a lot more mediocre pvpers doing heroics now that this is out, haha.
It's not for any one class, but it's always better for certain classes because they need the one thing more than the other. Mages and destrolocks like their crits, but I'm a shadowpriest and need a lot more spelldamage. This with soulfrost and the orb of shadows would be 170 spelldamage up from my current curator staff.
I bought it yesterday as soon as my server unlocked the vendor simply because I was tired of my Nathrezim Mindblade and for the nice boost in stam, int, and over 40 extra spell damage. So I lose like 23 spell crit rating but as soon I replace my Robes of the Aldor with the new badge chest piece (forget the name at the moment), that 50 spell crit rating will more than make up for it. Plus it has no annoying innate glow so you can actually notice the sunfire enchant =). If none of the other pieces are a bigger up, this is a nice dagger. Keep in mind there's no more content patched or badge rewards until the next expansion, so why save your badges?
This or Temest of Chaos with Heart of the Pit would kick ass for my lock, though i would like some more crit.
This blade is literally the ultimate for a shadowpriest.
With soulfrost on it, and paired up with the Orb of the Soul Eater, it completes probably the best weapon set in the game right now in terms of pure shadow damage. Exactly +350, which is absolutely monstrous, like BT-worthy.
I previously used the Season 1 Gladiator's Spellblade and this is a massive improvement in nearly every way that matters. Worth every single one of the 150 badges I painstakingly saved up for nearly two months.
i play a frost mage and i think this is the second best one-hander for a mage in the game.
the spell dmg increase is amazing as well as the stats, i'm really fine having 15% crit chance (bc of the added 10% from frost spec; and if u consider the extra 50% for frozen targets i rly dont need it)
it is well worth 150 if not more, as soon as i get the badges im getting this item and combining it with the fetish of primal gods off-hand (which is btw the best off-hand until u reach at least mt hyal, or unless u use the veng gladiator's endgame)
i dont think this is really worth it...
with a nice off hand (fetish of primal gods) would equalize the +damage, give you crit, and haste.
and its alot easier to get than 150 badges cause to get the 150, your prolly gonna be farming kara, and that is bound to drop.
i think im gonna buy the new robe though... the one with +spell damage and some nice crit.
but i do understand that this is VERY nice for a Spriest as crit doesnt matter. but as a destro lock i cannot afford to give it up.
