I just don't understand why blizz added 2 new off-hand daggers that both give 30 stamina, 24 hit rating and 44 attack power, but with different attack speeds: 1.5 for this one and 1.8 for the Mutilator (
Could it be by chance that the 1.5 dagger is for rogues and their abilities (shiv, blade furry, etc...) and the 1.8 for enhancement shamans?
Even as a Mutilate rogue, this dagger is definitely not a wasted purchase. For starters, the actual difference between the two new offhand daggers is small (.2 attack speed).
122-228 Damage, 1.7 Speed
108-201 Daamge, 1.5 Speed
Seeing as these are both offhand daggers, even with Dual Wield Specialization (75% offhand damage), your average hit for each dagger is only
Mutilator: 122 + 228 = 350 / 2 = 175 * .75 = 131.25
Swift Blade: 108 + 201 = 309 / 2 = 154.5 * .75 = 115.875
So the Mutilator will roughly make your Mutilate hit for a base damage of 15-16 more before AP and Crit modifiers are taken into account. Other than that, the damage output is the same.
The Swift Blade, however, offers some utility that some rogues may prefer. A 1.5 speed dagger reduces the cost of your Shiv ability, which may appeal to rogues who occasionally pvp. It can also get a 5-stack of Deadly Poison applied to a target faster. This can help in mobile fights where your poison stack might drop due to running out of melee range.
The Mutilator is probably a better choice for a raid rogue, but this dagger is far from a BAD choice if you prefer the small benefits that it can provide.
This is the best PVE combat daggers off-hand to date, that I know of coming in the patch, that is easily obtainable. Case in point since I'm fighting off the previous posting by the un-initiated:
Any combat spec (daggers, sword, etc) depends highly on both a fast off-hand and a significant amount of hit-rating. The main reason isnt so much Shiv (since PVE rogues barely need to use it) or even poison stacking. Combat Potency my friends procs on off-hand hits. Faster off-hands means more hit, which means a greater chance of it proc-ing.
Even more case in point, Blizz named it the Swift Blade of Uncertainty. A proc is notably uncertain, like the proc of Combat Potency- the only off-hand dependent proc a rogue has as far as talent builds go. So even Blizz intended this dagger for this specific use in its naming convention. :D
This dagger has a quick speed, a healthy dose of hit-rating, and some AP sprinkled in for good measure. All ideal stat stick qualities of Combat daggers.
Dont think this could be more obvious, after all Blizz named the 1.80 speed off-hand dagger the Mutilator- wonder what spec that was intended for :p
Very good dagger for PVE and for PVP as offHand hemo spec due to large amount of AP (specially if you only have S1 offhand and don't want to spend points in S2 offhand). We all agree that 1.4 or 1.3 would have been better but 1.5 is still very good.
The Mutilator is too slow for a PvE rogue. Combat Potency, which is a big rogue talent, wouldn't be as useful if it had an OH of 1.8. This is the best choice for PvE dagger rogues.
