Now that Upper Blackrock Spire has been revamped, this comment of mine is completely out of date, and I have marked it as such. However, for nostalgia's sake, I'll leave it here.
Since this item will be obsolete after 2.3 there's not much use for my little guide here. However, someone might still want to raise
reputation or farm the boxes for other uses, such as raising lock picking, so I'll keep the guide here.
To farm blinding powder fast, as well as to make money and reputation on the side, head on down to
. You won't need the
upper side key
Pickpocket the around 300 humanoid mobs in the lower part to get
. Run out and reset the instance whenever necessary.
You can get up to
1 box per minute
down there, as well as somewhere around
15-17 gold per hour
in straight cash from pickpocketing. Results may of course vary according to your pickpocketing speed, pickpocket resists, and whether you've got
to avoid dying in the instance.
Remember to have "Auto Loot Corpse" from Interface/Basic options on, as it will make the job a whole lot easier. It doesn't only loot corpses automatically, but every other container as well.
Once you've collected a hefty amount of boxes, head on up to
, up North to the
Manor. Open up your boxes, and get everything from inside them except the least valuable item, which is usually a shabby knot or some flash powder. There must be at least one item or some cash inside the box when you've finished looting it, so it won't disappear. At this point it is a good idea to take off the "Auto Loot Corpse" so you don't have to keep pressing the auto loot (Shift by default) key all the time.
Once you've got all of the valuables and blinding powder out of the boxes, go see
on the second floor balcony of the manor. He will ask you to
turn in five Heavy Junkboxes
Dusksteel Throwing Knives
. Completing the quest will net you 75 reputation with Ravenholdt (82.5 if you're human), and you can sell the knives for
1g 32s 53c
a piece. The knives are Unique, so you will have to sell them one at a time. Run down into the basement where you will find two vendors who you can sell the knives to.
NOTE: Right now (3rd of August, 2007) the only real use of Ravenholdt reputation is to get the -10% Honored reputation vendor discount if you would like to use the Ravenholdt manor as your base for some reason. However, the value of the knives you get as a reward for turning 5 junkboxes in far exceeds the cash or value of the items left in those 5 boxes, so if you want some extra cash from your boxes, turn them in.
This method of farming blinding powder will usually earn you something like
30 gold and 150 blinding powder per hour
. That's 50 fadeleaves worth of powder as well as a good amount of gold to buy poisons with.
Remember that you can have your pickpocketing attempt resisted, in which case you want to use Vanish. If your Vanish isn't up, then just dispose of any mobs that have spotted you. As a level 70 rogue with decent gear it should be no problem for you to kill three or four of the elites down there at once. Safest bet, however, is to always have an escape plan. There are areas in the Spire where you can get to, and the mobs can't. They will then evade after a while and you will get out of combat.
In patch 2.3, this will no longer be needed. Blind will no longer require a reagent. Sticky on the official Rogue forums details the change and others.
R.I.P Blinding powder
Personally I'm keeping a stack on my bank alt for posterity. On the plus side, now it no longer has a reagent i find myself using it more....even though I never had trouble acquiring the mats before.
Returned to the game expecting to have some PvP fun with my long ago palyed rogue.. and I find 160x gray Blinding Powders in my bags... too bad they are worth only 25s per stack. Pre 2.3 that would have been a small fortune. :(
I use blind WAY more now that it doesn't need Blinding Powder.
I can rest easy since the only reagent i need i can buy without being an herbalist or going to an overpriced auction house. So im not really sad :P.
Ha, no wonder I get blinded so much now compared to before. I too just came back after 2.3, still have some powder left, and have been getting blinded like there's no tomorrow in BG's
Sap can only be used while stealthed and in melee. Blind is usable in combat and at a 10 yard distance.
sucks cause u need FadeLeaf to make them.. one fade leaf makes three blinding powder.. not that bad if ur an herbist.. but really sucks if ur not..
WHY have the fadeleaf soo rare? =( 1st 3gold on AH
U will find them on Fighters and Medecine men in Stranglethorn Vale.
The reason it's so expensive is because there is so many people on the server that are willing to buy it. If you have alchemy, then you kinda have to either not sell it or sell it for a lot. Supply and Demand! Level 60's buy for too high a price!
how do you get the skill to make Blinding Powder ?
you can't sap the enemy when you are in combat. you can use blind in combat and use bandages to yourself when enemy is blinded
Fade leaf is a reg for this powder. You don't have to be an herbalist to get it fadeleaf, just buy it, but only an herbalist can get it normally.
I was able to learn how to make it with a Poison skill of 160
Just go learn it at a trainer and then buy the stuff of an alchemier. Look up!
Doesn't blind allow you to restealth too? cuz if u turn off your attack by clicking off the target, 5 seconds later you are out of combat...which means you can stealth and do another CS or Ambush...right?
Useless? Sap only works on certain types of enemies, from stealth, out of combat, in meelee. If you don't have enough points into subtlety to get imp sap, it'll also break stealth while you're in meelee range of your target and everybody else is back out of agro range.
Blind works on virtually everything, out of stealth, in combat, at range.
Sure, if you can sap, it's better, but you can't always sap. You can always blind.
Just get a herbalist in your guild to get you some fadeleaf
huh rogue without blind = mage without blink i just dont get it, how can some1 dont use blind oO
in pvp blind is very usefull.
its like gouge or cheap shot just dont add combo point
Just wanted to add to this that Fadeleaf drops from Kurzen Medicine Man in STV (Stranglethorn Vale) loc.*44,10*. So you dont need to buy it at AH or from a Herbalist player.
Pretty helpful information, huh?
Just got 6x Blinding Powder off worn junkbox. On the other hand, Blizz went a little bit too far with their God-Mode patch.
I've gotten all my blind powder from unlocking 'worn junkboxes' I pickpocket off random mobs..some i can name are the centaurs in desolace, trolls in STV, etc. So if your lower and need some blinding powder and don't have high enough poisons yet, this is the route i've been taking until I can make it ^.^
ye, with lockboxes u can save a lot of money
your so silly.
i go to the ZF with my lvl 49 rogue
and just walk away + sap + pick pocket trolls..
i get a bunch of boxes with powder inside..
OMG. I haven't played my rogue in ages...
And now I see all that Blinding Powder has been converted to JUNK in patch 2.3!
Wow... That's so wrong. They even updated the tooltip.
"Once favored by rogues as a blinding agent, it was abandoned for more readily available resources... like dirt"
Blizz has a sense of humor about it.
SO I guess the past 3 years of comments are now irrelivant.
I have mixed feelings about Blizz doing away with Blinding Powder. Sure, farming that stuff was a pain in the ass, and it drove the cost of fadeleaf through the roof, but that's all part of what makes Rogues so great. Rogue abilities are detailed and gritty, almost realistic even. Rogues have to make and apply poisons; hunters just press serpent sting and spend mana. Rogues have to buy flash powder; hunters' flares and traps come from nowhere. In a way, Rogues have lost a little bit of what makes them the most interesting and fun class in the game.
I loved this stuff... And now is it replaced with dirt...
I feel hollow inside...
Snigendepind, ex-blinding powder user.
No wonder I wasn't running out... LOL.
Can blinding powder still be found? I have stack that I keep for sentimental reasons.
Ok, i'm gonna try to put a stack up on AH and see what it sells for... Will update when sold...
OMG! Sold a stack for 2000g! O_o
lol we now pick up dirt and throw it at ppl no more powder needed LOL WOOOOOOOT!
First time back on in 5 months....dirt...how do you throw it? Where do you get it?
This is a piece of World of Warcraft history its no longer in the game with my newest update with Burning Crusade.
My beutiful wife is a sexy rouge that is very frustrated because she can't find this stuff any were. She is a lvl 34 with alc at 166 she does not have the ability to turn fadeleaf into blinding powder. What is missing? please help me with this problem. I can't get any of my quest done till I help her figure this out:(

Pickpocketing junkboxes is great :P I ran SM Lib twice and got 26 blinding powder (along with other poison reagents) from them, if you don't want to waste money/time on fadeleaf, then go for junkboxes.
You get the ability to make this from your class trainer. You must be level 34 and your Poisons skill must be 150 to buy the ability. Making it requires 1 Fadeleaf. I got some from pickpocketing as well. I suppose it was a rare occasion though.
i have the blinding powder - i'm just not sure how to use it effectively - when i cast on target it just wanders around aimlessly for a few secs but i can't get behind it quick enough to backstab or anything before it wears off; i must be doing something wrong - help?
What's up with this skill? Ok, so I have over 150 in poisons and lvl 34 and yet I still am unable to even see this skill at the rogue trainer. Am I doing something wrong? Please help, i need this skill!
Hello All :D
I'm a lvl 40 rogue have some of this blinding powder I picked up from a drop and well... can anyone tell me how to use the stuff! I've got blind ability on my bar and it does just that... without the use of powder! It's probably me just being a bit thick!
My posions are up to 200 and alchemy and herb approx 160... any ideas appreciated or I'm dumping the stuff :D
Don't bother with fadeleaf, instead, pickpocket worn/sturdy junkboxes (I usually pickpocket through Scarlet Monastery) and loot it from those.
Rogues don't buy, they steal.
