Everything We Know About Burning Crusade Classic from BlizzConline

Blizzconline has just wrapped up and there is a ton of new information for WoW Classic fans! Because this information is spread out across so many different deep dive panels, Blizzard Developer Q&A's, and other publications, we've done our best to compile all the information in one place!
No Release Date
The big one, on everyone's mind, is the release date. Unfortunately, Blizzard didn't have too much to reveal about this, other than an ambiguous "2021" launch and Beta coming “Soon”. Most conservative assumptions are a release around Summer, which means we would have had Classic for a solid 2 years. If you can believe it, Classic WoW launched in
August of 2019!
Which lines up pretty well with a 6 phase system, averaging 3-4 months per phase.
Patch 2.4.3 at release
Another big topic of discussion amongst the community, debating the pros and cons of doing progressive patches and itemization with Burning Crusade Classic. While it makes a lot of sense to do this, even if Blizzard has the data to support it, there are many items and talents that were nerfed
heavily
throughout The Burning Crusade. One example that comes to mind is Rogues using Maces in arena as "HARP" spec, which allowed for Preparation to reset Adrenaline Rush, giving Rogues an insane power spike in arena!
Knowing Burning Crusade Classic will be on 2.4.3 means we can assume a few things. Talents, items, and spells will all have their 2.4.3 versions, while other things are still somewhat of a mystery. Before 2.4.3 launched, Blizzard went back and tweaked experience values in Vanilla zones, as well as reduced the level for the first riding mount, dropping it down to level 30. Whether or not these changes will hit Burning Crusade Classic is still a discussion amongst Classic developers.
Lastly, one thing Blizzard is sure of, is the attunement process in Burning Crusade Classic will have the original difficulties, meaning you need Revered reputation to get Heroic keys and go through all of those arduous quest chains to get attuned for raids!

Phases, Arena Seasons might be changing
As of right now, Blizzard is locked on a five phase system, certain of the raid release schedule. The only topic of discussion is when the arena seasons will drop. Whether or not Season 1 will drop with Phase 1 or Phase 2, and
in a recent interview with MrGM
, Brian Birmingham said Blizzard might even consider having Season 3 come out with Hyjal and Black Temple and Season 4 with Sunwell Plateau. So clearly, there is a lot of discussion to be had here, deciding the right place for each season's gear to match up with the PvE content.

Choose your character's future
This is one of the most important decisions Blizzard landed on for how Burning Crusade Classic will roll out.
In the Developer Q&A panel at Blizzconline
, Developers explained that the moment the Pre-Patch drops on Classic WoW realms, a "snapshot" of every realm and character will take place, freezing everything in place.
When the servers come back up online for the Pre-Patch event, after the snapshot, players will log in and be granted a choice. They can choose one of the following:
Stay on their current realm and change nothing. The realm will progress into the Pre-Patch and eventually Burning Crusade, business as usual.
Transfer off of their current realm to a "Classic Era Realm", which will always be on Phase 6 Naxxramas Patch on Classic. This means they will not be able to play in Burning Crusade.
Players can pay a fee, of which we do not know the amount, to have their character
cloned
to the Classic Era Realm and stay on the Pre-Patch realm, having a character on both Classic Era and Burning Crusade.

In addition to these transfer and cloning options, Blizzard did explain that there will be no limit on the amount of gold players can bring over to The Burning Crusade. While this might seem like a sticky situation for the game's economy, there really isn't any good way to fix this issue. Even if you were to limit the amount of gold players could bring over, it won't stop
automated players
from farming up insane amounts of gold again. The only clear way to fix the economy in Classic WoW and eventually Burning Crusade Classic is to crack down hard on botting. Because no matter what Blizzard does,
the bots will always win
.

Draenei and Blood Elves during Pre-Patch
In a fantastic choice by Blizzard, they will allow players to create Draenei and Blood Elves during the Pre-Patch event, giving players plenty of time to level their new Shamans and Paladins before the Dark Portal opens! This is going to be a great quality of life change from the original Burning Crusade for any Shamans and Paladins on their specific faction. Back then, players couldn't make Draenei or Blood Elves until the Dark Portal was already open, meaning their friends and guild mates were already in the Outlands while they were still running around
the Barrens
.
Level 58 Boost
In a somewhat controversial decision, Blizzard will allow players to pay a fee, of which we do not know the amount, granted character boosts to level 58. It does come with some restrictions however --
Can only be used on Burning Crusade realms, not on Classic Era.
Can not be used for Draenei or Blood Elves.
Only one per account.

Pre-Nerf Bosses
While Blizzard did announce that everything would be on patch 2.4.3 and not progressive patches, they did however explicitly state they are going to hand tune bosses to be closer to their original states. Just as it happened in Classic WoW, bosses launched in their post-nerf state, meaning in Patch 1.11 when bosses had their health values lowered (to give more people an opportunity to experience the content), Classic players were unable to re-experience those bosses in their original states.
This time however, Blizzard is taking a closer look and handling the boss values with more care.
In the Burning Crusade deep dive panel at Blizzcon
, Patrick Dawson goes on to explain one specific example around M'uru is presented:
As an example: M’uru initially had a lot of spell pushback, which was causing players to exclude spellcasters from their groups. We fixed this issue pretty quickly, and it’s something we’ll still include as a change when this boss becomes available in Sunwell Plateau—but the decrease to his health will likely revert to its original state. Players have asked to engage with the initial versions of bosses so they can see if the benefit of experience allows them to defeat bosses they previously struggled with, and we want to provide them with that opportunity.

Seal of Blood for the Alliance
Blizzard really surprised the community with these changes, even coining their own hashtag, #SomeChanges, explaining that the community is just different now than it was in original Burning Crusade, and some things just need to change for the health of the game.
The most blatant example of this would be Seal of Blood for Blood Elf Paladins. Alliance Paladins get their own Seal, Seal of Vengeance, which just does overall less damage than Seal of Blood. For this reason, many players were planning to re-roll to the Horde to take advantage of this powerful Seal. Blizzard made the decision to give this Seal to both factions, preventing the controversial and still hotly debated topic of faction balance.

Arena upgrades
Talking about #SomeChanges, this one is kind of a big deal for the PvP community. Back in the original Burning Crusade, arena teams could only hold that teams amount of players, meaning a 2v2 team could only have 2 players on it, a 3v3 team could only have 3, and 5v5 teams held 5. One of the design flaws with this is if a player can't login one night, that team just won't be able to play. Blizzard said they are going to expand the number of players per team to be double that team's amount. 2's team holding 4 players, 3's teams holding 6, and 5's teams holding 10.
On top of this, Blizzard also revealed their won't be Battlegroups, which was actually just a hardware flaw back in the original Burning Crusade. Now, it'll be region wide, everyone versus everyone in the arena. But a new problem will arise, how to handle Rank 1 titles. Blizzard has states they'll probably be going with a percentage based system to reward the highest ranked teams. Hopefully we get ranked leaderboards back as well!
Looking for Group upgrades
If you weren't aware,
the Looking for Group tool was in the original Burning Crusade
. It wasn't as fleshed out as the "Dungeon Finder" tool in modern WoW, but it was definitely there to allow for groups to form for dungeons
and raids
. Blizzard touched on this topic, explaining that they would be considering an update to this interface, "modernizing" it and making it a more functional tool, but
not
allowing for automated group formation.

Leatherworking Drums might be changing
Leatherworking Drums of Battle are essentially the Engineering of The Burning Crusade, as in high performing guilds basically make it a requirement to raiding. Blizzard realizes this is an issue and wants to tackle this problem tactfully, and a few ideas have already been floating around.
Maybe Drums of Battle puts a debuff on players when used, preventing the Drums from being used again for a short time. Maybe the Drums of Battle are
raid wide
, meaning only 4 people in the raid need to be Leatherworking for everyone to get the effect. Whatever Blizzard goes with, they do want to change them in some way, so that it isn't a requirement for everyone in the raid to be Leatherworking.

Classic or TBC
In a
devastating
blow to the FRESH Classic community, Blizzard made no mention of Fresh Phase 1 Classic servers, which a community of players do want. They also want a lower spell batch window and tuned raids (similar to the treatment Burning Crusade Classic is getting). Maybe Blizzard is keeping this in their back pocket for a future announcement, but many players were sad to hear nothing on the topic. And for another small community, some players even wanted Fresh Burning Crusade servers, starting from level 1. However,
in the Developer Q&A
, Holly Longdale did say that Fresh servers might be something the team looks at in the future, right now the team is focused on the Burning Crusade Classic launch.
If #SomeChanges are on the table...
Again, Blizzard said they are open for #SomeChanges and many players in the community are taking this opportunity to suggest their own changes. The most prevalent being Dual Talent Specialization, a feature that wasn't added into WoW until patch 3.1.0 in Wrath of the Lich King. A massive quality of life change, Dual Talent Specialization would allow players to have both a PvE Raiding Talent build and a PvP Arena Talent build ready to go whenever they need to swap specializations.
At the end of the day, there are many quality of life changes players want for Burning Crusade Classic. But let's not forget what the original No Changes movement was about... Quality of life changes are one thing, but players do not want WoW Tokens, players do not want Looking for Raid difficulties for content, and players do not want a shop feature in the game,
period
.
Beta Opt-In
Blizzard added a Beta Opt-in button to the splash page for Burning Crusade Classic. Many players in the community were concerned about how Blizzard was planning on rolling out Beta to the community and this could be the fairest way for players to get involved in the beta, to test new features and systems added in The Burning Crusade!
Classic Burning Crusade Beta Opt-In Available on the World of Warcraft Site
Netherwhelp Pet for Collector's Edition owners
One of the questions asked during the MrGM Developer Interview
, Blizzard revealed that yes, owners of the original Burning Crusade's Collector's Edition will in fact get a Netherwhelp Pet in Burning Crusade Classic, just as original World of Warcraft Collector's Editions owners got a Classic pet!
