Location: Blackrock Spire
The Beast is a boss found in Upper Blackrock Spire. It appears to be a Core Hound that has been captured by the forces of Nefarian for use in his breeding experiments. (Experiments on other core hounds could account for the creation of Chromaggus, a core hound-like dragonkin who is the second-to-last boss found in Blackwing Lair.)
At some point before he is encountered by a party, the Beast has swallowed Finkle Einhorn, a gnomish adventurer who has survived in the Beast's stomach for an unspecified period of time. Skinning the Beast will free Finkle.
Essentially, a tank will need to keep aggro on The Beast at all times as he hits extremely hard and can kill a cloth wearer in 2 or 3 hits, the rest of the raid will want to DPS him. As long as the Main Tank can keep aggro (don't count on this, he fears and random charges a lot. Better to say the main tankS) and you have sufficient healing, this fight should be a simple one. He may drop , which increases skinning by 10, so anyone in the group with a skinning skill of 300 should roll on this if they dont have it already, otherwise it can be greeded. It is vital someone can skin the beast as they can recieve the and also reveal Finkle Einhorn, who is the start of a quest chain.
TIP: The room where the Beast is in is seperated by a Barracade of Burning wood. If you Clear the entire room before "The Beast's" room You will be able to use this room as a place of refuge if your Party dies. If you run past the Barracade you will lose aggro, and if everyone else is dead he should return to his corner and reset.
Also be aware that one of his attacks he often uses will send anyone in range flying upwards a good distance. Not only will the fall hurt, The Beast will more than likely turn from the main tank and attack another party member. Also watch out for his Fear, If you have a Dwarf healer you are in luck due to the fact The Beast's Fear doesn't affect them.
WARNING: Many groups often make careless mistakes when fighting the beast. If you do not clear the room before the Beast's room always remember that there are MOBS right around the corner from where you are fighting, and you might be feared or thrown out into the next room where all of the MOBS are waiting. So make sure you fight the beast in the middle of the room to make sure this doesn't happen.
-Other than all of that ^^^ This fight is fairly easy and there should be very little problem whilst fighting him.
*This is the room your group's Hunter or whoever is elected to "Kite" the last boss in UBRS "Drakk" will run to*
which lvl he have?
Here is something creepy...The Shadowforge key (
)has inscribed on it the letters F.F.F.Replacing the letters with numbers,A=1,B=2,C=3,D=4,E=5,F=6.So F.F.F is actually 666,The Number of The Beast(a little useless but fun :P)
I solved the beast as a lvl 70 paly with my friend lvl 70 warrior so bring two 70 lvl friends from ur guild here and enjoy! :D
ive noticed that if ur a hunter and u have track beasts on u can see this guy on ur map in Lower black rock spire
have experienced a bug twice in a row now which really is annoying. In upper spire upon killing the Beast the roll loot appears on the screen how ever The Beast himself cannot be skinned. Why is that? I opened a ticket and GM told me only reason he could not be skinned was because there was loot inside the Beast that was not removed.
Problem is nobody in the 10 man raid group was able to loot it.
GM sent my ticket to a character specialist to have issue looked at.
Has anyone else received this problem?
Strange enough upon exiting the instance, the raid group was completely abandoned and a new party of 4 was created for lower spire, during our run of lower spire all quests could not be completed, no kills counted towards quest boss kills. All 4 of us were players from the upper raid that was previously done.
1 mate contacted a GM and they informed that we were all stuck in raid even tho the raid was gone and a new party had be formed.
Again anyone else experiencing this bug? This was very annoying since we did a full clear of lower spire with only 4 players.
1 good thing came from the lower run how ever, all 3 gems from all 3 bosses did drop for the key quest :)
Notice the name of the man freed from the beast...FINKLE EINHORN from Ace Ventura pet detective.....not that good of a movie but i was forced to watch it so now i know.
And the whole 666 thing was pretty clever dude. but not correct. shadowforgeif for BRD and in NO-relation to the door(s) in Lbrs or Ubrs
Its number is six hundred and sixty six.
Easily 2 manned with a BM hunter + Healer combo.
Just get some random to help summon the first UBRS boss and easily 2 mannable all the way, use a Bat or Carrion Bird's Screech to hold aggro off the healer and you can easily farm him.
Pets dont suffer from all the knockbacks so they hold aggro very easily, keep Mend Pet just incase the healer gets charged and your pet wont go below 70% on this fight. Farmed 3 Ace of Beasts so far this week with a guild healer, he gets all drops to DE and we split 50/50 might not be the best for earning gold, but alot of priests and druids after the Darkmoon card! Can easily sell the card for 200g.
Have a bank alt sat with 200g on it at anytime just for buying out low priced Darkmoon cards, made a few Beast Decks decks from Aces not selling, the whole Beast Deck sells for up to 800g easily(depending on server greatly!)
Easy gold for an easy run.
Sandlot reference to the big dog called "The Beast" which stayed behind the ballpark fence, and depicted as a very large canine-ish thing, just like this guy :)
Not tamable by hunters.
Edit: as of patch 3.0.2 he's now tameable
Make these loot deals beforehand and then decide if you want to join the raid or not.
In my humble opinion, I say the skinner has the right to skin everything on the way and keep the skins and leather.
A very rare item like this should be available for all that are going to USE it. Need before greed.
Skinners argue that they got to 300 skinning, got Finkle's skinner and perhaps +5 skinning on their armor, but c'mon guys, do Rogues keep everything in the chests they unlock? Not with me, they unlock it and then we roll for the items inside.
I say, you as a skinner "unlock" the body of "The Beast" and let the ones that can use it roll on it. It's loot, nothing more and nothing less.
Of course, if you can make a deal with your group that this item is YOURS when it drops, more power to you.
Note: I am 300 skinning.
Skinners that claim this thing are selfish pricks, that's all.
"But I did my best getting that skinner!" - And you solo'd getting that skinner?
"Well I am the only one that has it!" - You would not be able to kill the Beast solo, either.
"But I spent a lotta time on it!" - Guess what? Those helping you get the skinner and the beast spent a lot of time too.
"But those were different people!" - Even worse, a LOT of people helped you getting the skinner and to the beast, for all their efforts you claim this skin?
Etc. etc. etc.
I've read everybody's post and opinions about this
and now it's my turn to give me opinion.
Getting the Skinning Dagger is a hard thing to do
and on average it will take someone who is trying to
get it at least 20 runs to be successful on average.
Now getting a pristine hide is going to take another
20 runs or so on average.
You think if I mine an arcanite crystal while in an
instance,I'm going to give it up for rolls, I'm a
nice guy and that's possible, but not likely. I
definitly don't think I'm obligated too. The only
way I would put the pristine hide up for rolls would be.
1) all guild run
2) I don't need it
3) my 60 alt don't need it
4) someone else who I know could really use it
and always helps with instances, then I would give
it to him, but a random roll would never happen.
The chance of some noob to UBRS, who this may be
their first time there and first time seeing the
beast go down, should have a chance at it, "I don't
It's not random loot, it's something that is 1000G
in the AH, and would make a great epic piece for most
classes. I, as a guild master would say, if the member
wanted to be nice and give it to the guild, then
I would make whoever could use it and wanted it, earn
it by participation, helping others, trade in other
stuff or whatever for it.
A chest being unlocked by a rogue is alot different my friend
I believe he is obligated by being in the guild (Period)
to open any locked chest or door. Does not mean
he has the right to it's contents, that's common
Locking Picking is not a primary profession nor
a secondary. Rogue should unlock & everybody rolls.
If a rogue tried to charge me for unlocking any
boxes from my guild, he would be warned then kicked.
But enchants are different, even though they are
guild members, don't mean it's free, if it's small
no big deal, but if it's crusader or something similar
that takes 50G+ worth of mats, you better
help gather the mats my friend.
There are many different points of view on who should get the Pristine Hide when it drops, and who is to say who is right and who is wrong. Just get the loot rules spelled out in the beginning and if you don't agree, don't go one the raid. Ask the skinner what he expects if the hide drops. Simple as that.
Hypothetically speaking, if I was to skin this guy and get the hide I would only allow those who NEEDed it to roll on it. All you people who want easy gold from someone elses work can shut up and go farm plaguelands or silithus. It would be like if a blacksmith made an arcanite reaper and everybody rolled on it then complained that the blacksmith didnt pay up.
In my opinion, skinning the hide and dissing a blue for a shard is very different. There are lots of blues to diss, there is only one beast to skin. If you don't like it, ditch your proff and pick up skinning.
First of all, surprisingly, whole discussion is very civilized on this topic, which i assume more grown up players are interested in this discussion. :)
I am a skinner, without the +10 dagger (yet) and looking for getting it. For a guild run, obviously guild comes first and the decision should be made within. For a PuG, I think skinner must have some privelage if the hide drops. This may be anyhow, maybe chance to roll on it twice (all pass then reroll or MasterLoot)(or roll 120 instead of 100, hehe) or be paid. And the rolling must be if there is someone around that need this for quest. If everyone needs this for greed, i think only the skinner has the r,ght to get the loot. (Surely all 310 skinners rolled beforehand)
I dont think comparing profession is meaningful here, since all have different ups & downs and the hide we are talking about is an epic. I can pay the lockpicker if he wants (yet i'll try to find a one that doesnt want a payment)
The best solution seems talking things before the raid is up, or even when recruiting. Sometimes people seems that they forgot this is a "game" that we all play for fun.
Cheers, hope you all get the items you need andforget about the greed (>'.')>...<('.'<)
im an enchanter, and for most bop's dropped in instances people ask for a disenchant. should i keep the shards? or should i get two rolls because i'm an enchanter? this should be treated like any other pick up, need before greed, but not skinners dibs. each class has a role in a group. and in some cases each profession has a role in a "group". by your logic if a rogue were able to help a group access an area or dungeon, that rogue should get all of the loot the group wins. i think that skinners can leech enough extra loot off a group by skinning the mobs killed by all. ("please make sure you loot the bodies so i can skin, and also please wait for me because i'm going to stay here and skin"). but this is a quest item, and playing one role of many in attaining it does not make you alpha dog here.
"if you cant even get the item by yourself in the first place... this is similiar to a level 1 complaining to a level 60 about how he killed a rare spawn and got an epic, and the level 1 wants a roll at it.... YOU CANT EVEN KILL THE RARE SPAWN "
do you see how you completely contradicted yourself and destroyed your argument? read what you wrote and think long and hard about it.
I'm a blacksmith, My Boyfriend is and Herbalist, And I would think the skinner should get he same respect, In Mara, no one has ever said a thing about my BF getting the mushrooms.... In BRD, No one has ever said a thing about me getting Dark Iron up the .... you know....
Well I think the Skinner or skinners should be allowed the same, I've worked Very hard for my Mining, Grinding it up little by little, and I would really be ticked If I go to BRD and Get 4 Dark Iron ore off of a Mine, and the group says, Hey, We Need to roll for those, they are worth cash, or the gems that come from them, "Because I can use them" If i can Gather the item on my own, I'm not giving them up to have to Pay for them on the AH,
I think that the Skinners should Roll, to see who will Skin The thing, and let it go at that...
Just like with the groups i've been in, We roll on the mines if there are several Miners there...
Every Profession has its money makers, so Why is everyone so insistant on taking the Skinners away?
And Yes, I'm greedy enough to _Want_ to roll on the Skin, But I didn't get my skill in Skinning, so It shouldn't be mine to roll on
Ok, so there appears to be some issue as to whether this item should be rolled upon or not. I feel like chipping in my 2 cents to this discussion too.
Firstly, the skinner in question needed to farm his way up to level 300 skinning in the first place. Then he needed to spend a few gold on getting the +5 enchant. Then he needs to do UBRS about 15 times to get the Finkle's Skinner. Then he needs to do it about 80 times to see the hide drop. Then, after all this work you think that the other people in the group should have the right to roll on it? No chance! The skinner did the work, the skinner gets the reward. Sure, if there are other people with Finkle's Skinner in the group then they have every right to roll on it, but the others don't! Do you think that it's right for them to put in all of this effort just to see some random PuG member walk out with a few hundred gold worth of stuff that the hunter worked his ass off for? No. It's a skinner's item, and the skinner does what he wants with it. If you want this item without putting in as much effort as the skinner, then go buy it at the AH. Anyone who tries to make me let everyone roll for it in my group will have a nasty surprise waiting for him. Only those with Finkles Skinner should be allowed to roll for it, not the whiners who want to get it without putting any effort in.
Edited for my occasionally poor spelling
I am a LW/315skinner. I believe that the pristine hide is the reward of choosing a low-yield gathering profession. I personally could not use the hide, but I know that I would never allow those in the raid to roll on it. The pristine hide would be my reward for going to UBRS long after I have needed anything there. I consider it a rare profit from an otherwise almost useless profession. Guilds do not allow a skinner to keep Scales of Onyxia, or Core Leather because they are items that benefit the guild, despite being very valuable. I could give a flying rat's ass about some PUG UBRS group. If you want the hide, skin it yourself. However, should there be another skinner in the raid, I will always roll with him/her after a skinnable boss to ensure fairness among fellow members of my gathering profession. I have no doubt that others in my raid would be angry with me, but I am sure that I would not be blacklisted, 'ninja-hooded,' or /gkicked for taking what I rightfully won. The majority of the people who disagree with me do not skin and therefore, in my mind, have zero say over what I do with my earnings.
ok so you think you get to roll on my skin? why?
its a gathering proffetion right. so only those with said profession should have rights on it since they too could have also skined that same hide from the beast. so if i was in a group and another person and myself both had skinning and the skinner then only 2 people would be alowed to roll why becuase its are profession not yours so go F yourself..... or you two can drop your current profession farm to 300 skill get the knife and try and get a hide. and secondly who cares if you have the quest? a Quest is you doing something trying hard or going out of your way to get somthing done for yourself or somone else so drop your profession get skinning and then we'll talk
Dropped first time i killed beast on my pally! Unfortunately we sat there for 15 mins because the leader wasn't convinced i would use it, though i would sell it. Finally gave me the card, now just waiting for the fair to come to town.
PREDETERMINE STUFF LIKE THIS BEFORE THE RUN!
As for who has the
to roll on the Pristine Hide (or any other epic drop for that matter), that has always been a matter of contention...
Only argument I have found reasonably satisfactory is the old WoW adage..."Need before greed: Definition: Need is defined as a drop that can be used (and is usually immediately learnt/equipped/whatevr) to further professions, gear appropriately to class/spec or complete a current quest (or continue in it (such as Frayed Abomination Stitching)..
Need DOES NOT constitute arguments like the following.."I need the Pristine Hide of the Beast so I can sell it and make the money I need for my epic mount/random epic weapon AH buying etc..."
Go away - we don't want your type on our servers...
As for skinners and chanters and stuff...the product of their tradeskill is just that..the product of their tradeskill..
All of you rogues out there..how much would you make on an average day, even just in tips, for opening lockboxes? 20g...50g....100g? I don't know myself, but I would envision from the amount I have spent in my playing time on locked boxes, you guys'd make a fair living (on top of being a damn useful soloing class)...
As stated earlier by someone (apologies for not remembering your name :S ), leather sells for precisely squat (unless it is knothide or something from BC), and the chance of a pristine hide dropping from a skin is pretty remote.
If such an item drops as a result of a tradeskill, the Need before greed loot rules apply..forget the fact it is epic for a moment (which the greedy buggers can't fathom) and consider the fact that;
a quest item.
It is gained from a high sklill in a profession.
High skills in a profession take a long time to attain.
Having said that, while it is perfectly reasonable for the skinner to claim the phat loot for him/herself, if there are people on the quest requiring this skin, then they should have the opportunity to roll for it..
Everyone who claims otherwise is letting the $ signs blind them..
Go farm outlands if ya need cash..and don't ask leatherworkers for gear if ya can't let them do their jobs without moaning...
On another note regarding the Finkle's Skinner drop from The Beast...Next time I lose the roll to it (need, mind you) to a damn miner/blacksmith Pally tool, I'ma scream...
That is just not cricket...
ok, i know im not gonna change anyones minds but think of it this way. you're in BRD with 2 miners. you come up to a dark iron ore mine, who rolls for it? the miners, if a crystals in it, who gets it? the miner. you're in brd again with 2 chanters and a BoE green drops, everyone rolls a chanter wins. he DEs it and some how gets a shard. who gets the shard? the chanter, he lvl'd his skill, did the stuff he needed and earned the shard. you're in mara with 2 herbers, you come to the ghost mushrooms they roll 1 wins, he gets them. now listen here, all the people who won stuff solo'd the vein/DE/erbing, but did not solo the instance. they still got their loot over everyone else because they earned it fair and square. now think of this, you're in ubrs with 2 skinners, and both have finkles. they both roll one wins skins the beast and the hide drops. who gets it? the guy who skinned it of course. i mean so what if its like a 0% drop rate. he won it when he had a high enough skill to get it, and beat everyone else with the same skill. and in order to get the hide you have to have finkles, or some other dagger/chant that would get you to 310 skinning (pre-bc). now did the skinner solo the beast? no. did he lvl his skill, get the extra gear, then the quest, then run it enough times to get the hide to drop? yes. does he get the hide over anyone else in the group regardless? yes. why? because its the way it works. i mean yes the hide was worth tons of gold pre-bc, and was a super rare epic, but it did require a specific proffesion and specific gear, and stons of farming to get, BUT its also a quest item ABOVE ALL ELSE. its used for nothing other then for a quest. and in order to skin the beast you will have finkles, and when you get finkles you get the quest. so if you skin the beast and get the hide its YOUR quest item, not the groups quest item.
70 Warlock (390 skinning)
-Postagestamp (300 skinning)
I know that with BC this isnt a big argument anymore. but look at it this way. you ever think that this item was put in so that a skinner had something to make good money on. leather does not sell for nearly as much as other gathered items. i agree skinning is the easiest to level, but why should they give their loot away. and i agree with earlier comments that miners looting a vein in an instance don't make you roll for good items. but say they are a JC and prospect it. out pops an epic gem. do we all get to roll on it, no, even if the ore was looted in that instance. no we don't so why roll on an epic skin. if i was asked at the begining to have a roll for something like that. i would let the people who had a quest roll on it. but if nobody does..SCREW YOU it's mine.
Hey, could a 70 with full season one glad gear or full T6 gear, solo The Beast?
lol she is easy to bad she didnt drop tristram
This guy is sooo easy. we did 3 runs in a row and got the Ironweave thing and 2 tristam leggings. we had 2 rogues, and they were very happy.
I don't know anything. Though I will sure love to see him, if possible I will hit him just to see him attack. That and have a nice screenshot of extremely high damage.
Guys, if you do notice...this guy is THE BEAST....from....The Sandlot....think about it, in a way hes in his own lil pin....and hes a dog...a giant demon dog....i love blizzards humor
dont really understad why is he maked has a lvl 500. someone care to explain? is there more like him, with strange lvls?
anyone who has played on an emulated server knows a couple things about levels, so, i will spread my knowledge to you all.
1. Highest player level YOU can be on an emulated server is 225.
2. Highest level a mob can be is, supposedly, 500.
3. this is somewhat proved, as when you kill level "500" mobs at level 225, they still appear as ?...
4. they are not ACTUALLY level 500, you can solo Blackwing Lair and Molten Core at level 225...heh
Now you decide. ;)
took this down yesterday with my 58 hunter and he dropped.. Lightforge Shoulders! cant see set items anywhere in the droplist.. new content from the patch or what?
So how do you get 315 skinning? I know that you can get +5 skinning for gloves but that would make it 305 right?
Is he really lvl 500?
I six manned this dude on the weekend with 5 of my guildies, we 6 manned the whole place except for drac, where we had to get 2 people to come help because we were light on the dps (and our hunter kept getting conflagged lol)
The drop for Pristine Hide of the Beast is not what is listed on the loot table (0.73%) because The Beast is not skinned every time it is looted. Currently, the drop is 42/1042, or 4.03%. (Look at leather drops only, not total drops; this will change whevever the table is updated.)

Today I had a bug with this mob. No drops :S we can all loot but only 'Wicked Claw' very strange...
is classified as a Beast... Logical. LOL
Browsing through the Bestiary
Kinda shocked... lvl 500? Anyone know anything about this guy?
Any one got pictures of it?
Edited, Sun Nov 21 12:39:59 2004
What interests me is the in the quest, Finkle doesn't specify that the Pristine Hide comes from this specific Core Hound, which makes me wonder why the ones in MC don't have at least some remote chance of dropping it upon skinning, would make a lot of people hella happier...
when people say hes lvl 500. it just means a lvl 60 sees him as lvl ?. If he had a lvl I say it would be about 65-70 elite. he isn't too bad.

Magmadar Junior :P
This guy is really fun to fight, though his fear can get a little annoying sometimes.
Allakhazam gets lvl 500 from the addons people have enabled when uploading the info. Like, some patches ago, you saw mobs with Boss Lvl ( a hidden lvl, noone can see it ) like lvl 500, therefore it says lvl 500. Lvl 500 is really just a Boss Level, like the troll in Thrall's Chamber.
Could someone post the most efficient way they have fought and killed him? We tried to fight him with 9 guys (One of our warriors bailed just before the fight). We had two rogues, a warrior, two shamans, three hunters, and a priest. He completely annihilated us, then stomped on our bodies for 5 min to make sure.
I found that the warrior was having a very difficult time keeping aggro from him, and was repeatedly feared off. Then the Beast would stomp over (He moves FAST btw) to the priest and beat on him while the shammys would try healing and earthshocking him off the priest.
Dont get me wrong, I liked fighting him, but I would like advice on how better to proceed.
wow i've done countless UBRS runs and i won roll on his hide... 0.33% chance and i roll 99..woot
its used to make really good armor from that finkle guy in winterspring.
Ehm does the skinn actauly create a roll or do you have to do a rondom 100 on it? if it generates a roll no way in hell ill farm for it lol.
The Beast is incorrectly a level 62 elite in Classic, rather than a level ? boss as in Vanilla.
