Terestian Illhoof is an optional boss located in Karazhan. It is located in the library, after the Curator and before the Shade of Aran.
To get to Terestian, find the suspicious bookshelf and open it to reveal a secret tunnel. Terestian is located at the bottom of the tunnel along with his little friend, Kil'rek.
Terestian has a few notable abilities
Sacrifice/Binding - Occasionally Terestian will sacrifice/bind a member of the raid. This causes the player to be incapacitated and puts a dot on the player. The binding can be targetted and damaged. This binding is therefore a priority for the entire raid when someone is being sacrificed. The binding seems to drain health from the player to Terestian but I am not completely sure about this. It is possible to Divine Shield out of this debuff and therefore it should be possible to Ice Block out of it as well.
Kil'rek - Kil'rek is Terestian's little imp buddy. Just ignore it.
Mark of Flames - This undispellable debuff makes the target take 500 more fire damage. If this lands on a target that is being fireball volleyed by the infinite imps, it can cause them to fall over very quickly.
Infinite Imps - Terestian will constantly summon imps during the fight - about one every half second. They deal light to moderate damage and have around 4-5k health. Our raid just waited until there was 8 or more of these imps before we AoEed all of them. We had to AoE phases during the course of the fight. It is also conceivable that you can put two dpsers on these imps full time but we didn't try that.
The kill order was Sacrifice/Bindings -> (Imps if 8 or more) -> Terestian.
The important thing in this fight is deciding when to switch to killing the imps. Too soon/too often and Terestian gets more chances to kill the raid. Not often enough and the imp will overwhelm the raid.

He's been buffed today and is now pretty angry. No more first try.
Hit points have doubled.
Imp damage increased.
Mark of flame damage doubled
Sacrifice damage increased by three times, impossible for one healer to heal.
Sacrifice shackles now have three times more hit points.
Imp buddy buffs illhoof and needs to be nuked over and over (respawns after 30 seconds or so).
You might also consider taking down imps constantly one by one with melees now.

We got him now. Have your mages buff dampen magic (except mt). Have a warlock spam seed of corruption on the imp pet, you won't need bombing at all.
And, most importantly have EVERY damage dealer make a /tar demon macro for those shackles, immediately announce the shackles when he starts casting "sacrifice". Nuking them down as quickly as possible with burst dmg is the key to this fight, its much like jindo's totems, just faster and more evil.

He's very challenging in his new incarnation. The biggest problems are probably dps on the chains and uncoordinated AE.
Have your Mage tell your lock when to begin seeding, then have your lock tell your Mage when to AE (when he has 3-4 up). Neither should take damage, ideally. Having decent-to-high FR on your Warlock is also helpful.
With chains all dpsers should stop their cast when they see him casting Sacrifice so's not the be hampered by the GCD. Rogues save energy etc. Everyone hits it hard and fast (shocks, sw: death, etc etc). use /tar Demon Chains
Ignore the imp. He'll probably die at some point anyway from the AE but he's just a distraction. Have something (VW, hunter pet) tank him.

Without doubt Terestian Illhoof's most dangerous ability is his Chains of Sacrifice, which quickly kill a player and simultaneously heal Illhoof himself. As soon as the chains hit, all DPS needs to instantly switch. Don't finish casting your fireball first: switch. If the whole raid can reliably DPS the chains down as quickly as possible, the rest of the fight will fall into place without too much trouble.
Full guide for dealing with this and also the imps etc from the fight:

To go along with Paladins and Mages being able to bubble and block out of sacrifice, if a Rogue notices Illhoof's target change to him (meaning he's about to be the chosen one), he can vanish out before it lands. This is very tricky to pull off and shouldn't be relied upon as it requires your global cooldown and immense concentration but it IS possible.

it would work if you could use potions while stunned ;D, however because it is, you're virtually helpless unless you can break it with a bubble or a iceblock

If you have a destruction warlock with 2/2 Intensity and 3/3 Nether protection, and a pally this fight becomes a lot easier. Have the pally give the warlock concentration aura, and the warlock hellfires everything. Having a dedicated healer (same pally with blessing of light) would be good. This way the imps get taken out, and the bindings as well. --> constant hellfire with no interrupt.

We use a Warlock in FR gear to Hellfire down the Imps (And Kil'Rek). She holds aggro and it works well.
Last night we had a healy Priest and a Resto Druid (me) for the sacrifices. Both myself and the Priest would HoT ourselves just when the timer would run out (I'd only do a Rejuve and maybe a lifebloom), then I'd get ready to use Regrowth + Swiftmend then another Regrowth on whoever gets sacrificed. (I dunno what the Priest used). If you keep people clear of the Green Glyph on the floor, you can quite easily see and heal whoever gets Sacrificed. Try and make sure everyone is on max hp just before the sacrifice, too (bandages wont work since most people just get interrupted by imps or what not).
Anyway, killed him and won my Nature's Sustenance Belt =)

Have your MT tank Illhoof next to the circle in the middle. Have your offtank in DPS gear (dont even bother with a shield) next to the circle tanking Kil'rek in def stance (DPS tanking basically). Have a warlock with FR gear stand near Illhoof where the imps spawn and spam hellfire. All of the DPS should focus on Kil'rek to weaken Illhoof and switch to the Demon Chains when they pop up so the sacrificed person doesn't die.
When the imp dies, Illhoof gets his debuff where he takes more damage focus fire on him unless Demon Chains come up. They always have priority over everything, DPS-wise.
Just repeat this the whole fight. It's healing intensive, but if everyone focuses on what they're supposed to be doing, it's easy. I highly reccomend you make three seperate macros for this fight:
/tar Demon Chains
/tar Kil'rek
/tar Terestian
There's so many enemies on the screen these macros are very helpful for targeting and sometimes necessary. Make sure your warlock has the correct spec for the fight and enough health/fr and it's still pretty easy even with Illhoof being buffed. Also, make sure even the tank turn and attack the chains when they come up. The faster the chains die the better. They do about 1600 dmg/sec so it burns mana fast on healers if they don't go down quick.
Good luck to everyone.

Today my guild wen't in and did this guy easily, our setup was the following (which is pretty standard in Karazhan):
1 Holy Paladin
1 Resto Druid
2 Rogues
2 Warriors
1 Mage
1 Warlock
1 Hunter
1 Enhancement Shaman
What we did was having the Warlock lifetapping whenever he needed mana to keep up constant Seed of Corruption and with AoE support of the mage to keep the white imps down.
Let me priortize again, it is vital to keep the white imp population down to a minimum.
Make sure the paladin is giving Concentration Aura to the Resto Druid and the Warlock. The Warlock does not need any specific specc (however Afflication is probably bets for overall raid dmg).
When you engage Illhoof he will have his orange imp friend with him, Kil'rek. Upon the death of this imp Illhoof will take additional dmg (200%) for a period of time and after a while, he will resummon it.
Upon starting the fight, Illhoof will summon two portals which will spawn the white imps that we talked about earlier in a constant stream.
Whenever a specific period of time has passed Illhoof will sacrifice a player in the raid (like Dire Maul East or The Botanica), this player will be capsuled in an attackable unit called "Demon Chains", upon killing these Demon Chains the sacrificed player will be free. The sacrified player will take alot of damage over time and will require immidiate healing.
The lines of actions your raid must take to kill Illhoof are as the following;
Start the fight by taking offtanking the orange imp while your raid takes the orange imp down to 20-25% health. Leave the imp at that point and DPS Illhoof until he sacrifices someone. When he does, kill the Demon Chains and after that full DPS on Illhoof since he takes extra dmg. Keep up the DPS on Illhoof until he orange imp spawns again, take it down to 20-25% again and wait for the sacrifice, when the sacrifice is over you DPS Illhoof until the next orange imp spawn.
Hince and repeat.
But remember, the Mage and Warlock should focus on keep _ALL_ the white imps down.
Remember to position your raid mostly to the behind of Illhoof, near the two church-look-a-like windows. This is done so the white imps doesn't spread out too much for the Warlocks Seeds of Corruption to hit.

Raid :
- 3 healers
- 1/2 tanks (2 is better though)
- 1 warlock (with high +fire dmg) or even 2 or more ^^
MT takes Terestian where he is.
All the raid near the green circle of sacrifice.
MT builds aggro on the imp then Terestian (if only 1 tank).
When imps begin to spawn, the real fight begins :)
The raid has to dps slowly (the MT has 2 aggro to build) at the beginning.
The warlock uses hellfire so that he can have Terestian, Kil'rek, the imps and the demonic chains at range. With a destru warlock or a paladin with concentration aura, he can spam his hellfire during the entire fight. He doesn't need a lot of heals, that's quite easy and a lot more mana efficency than the seeds and it takes aggro on all imps very fast. To add, it makes a constant dps on the demonic chains ^^
Everytime Kil'rek dies, full dps on terestian. When it respawns, have ur warlock stop dps so that he doesn't aggro it and when the MT has built again his aggro on it, let's spam hellfire again :O
The key to this fight (when imps are under control thx to the warlock) is to burst dps the chains when someone is sacrificed. Keep ur trinkets up for that, cooldowns, etc.. Have someone with poisons or mortal strike on Teresetian, it helps too.
Quite easy fight ! If u don't succeed : lack of DPS or ppl don't react fast enough to dps the chains.
Another thing too, sometimes the MT get caught in the chains. Of course, Terestian starts killing your raid. So, when it happens, have really full dps on the chains and have someone that can taunt Terestian (pally, warrior whoever.)

Our group usually has 2 locks, consisting of myself and another one. Raid just DPS's Illhoof, while either myself or another lock casts constant seeds on illhoof, so they explode almost instantly. Only time we switch this up, is when illhoof sacrifices someone, at that time, the whole raid dps' the chains.

The best strategy to this fight is two rogues, two locks, druid tank and warrior tank then 2 mages and some Pro Healing.
Two warlocks should endless Seed of Corruption the summon imps. the druid can DPS Gear bear form tank kilrek when he spawns to save the casters, and the rogues can super quickly own the shackles as these heal Ilhoof.
Strategy is to tank Ilhoof at the end of about a 15 yard line where he stands. Casters should stand on a spot to attract the imps about 15 yards from the tank to the left of the summoning circle ifront of ilhoof and the DRUID tank should tank Kilrek when he spawns halfway between.
DPS Kilrek down to about 20-35% (depending on your guilds control over their dps) then wait for a sacrifice. As soon as sacrifice pops, kill it: you now have 40s to kill kil'rek and own Ilhoof with the extra damage buff. Repeat as necessary and save Kil'rek if you get a sacrifice just before you are planning to kill Ilhoof. No timing involved, just quick switching of targets.
It is reccomended to make a macro to target Kil'rek for DPS and "Demon Chains" which port a player to them every 40s (an obvious cast by ilhoof causes this sacrifice)
Also during the non full DPS time on Ilhoof, any meelee can be dpsing him down including the druid tank being careful not to agro

basically 2 tanks warriors or druids. doesnt matter. (prefer druid for tanking kilrek so he can dps the chain as well). Warlocks either 1 or 2 doesnt matter. Put soc in the boss every second and have special healer on him. I prefer lock to do aoe since they have infinite mana. Aoe mage really cost their mana but overall depends on ur strategy. Since people will dps on the boss soc will explode very faster (no need fr gear). Heal everyone that trapped in chain. Pally can use divine shield and mage ice block to avoid demonic chain. DPS chain faster so illhoof not get healed. Overall dps is the main point in this fight.

Trying my hand at writing a single macro that will target the mobs in kill priority:
/target Demonic Chains
/stopmacro
/target Kil'Rek
/stopmacro
/target Terestian Illhoof
In theory, you should be able to click this macro and always be on the correct target. I haven't had a chance to test this yet, so any feedback would be appreciated.

Another minor strategy suggestion. We had an odd group last night (mage without special FR gear, no warlock), and one thing that seemed to help was having our two Hunters spam Snake Trap. The extra targets drew the attention of imps, etc. and the various poison effects were also helpful.

10 man boss.
took us 4 tries to kill him.
Grp 1. 2 hunters, tank, main healer and mage.
Grp 2. Shadow priest, Demon lock, Pally, Shaman and druid.
Lock casts seed on the boss non stop with pally conc aura. 365 FR and the imps hit you for about 50each. passive healing from shadow priest is enough to keep him up. AoE doesent effect the demon chains.
Grp 1 tanks boss to the left next to the green circle so lock seed tags all imps. If you tank him to the back wall imps will run to healers. tank him close to the green circle but not on it so that main healer can heal whoever gets put in chains. As soon as someone is in demon chains all bar lock, main tank and main healer attack the chains. Pally, ice mage can shield/ice block out of chains. High dps on boss is a must. after 10 mins boss 'enrages' and wipes raid. Lock seed should do at least 700+ damage on explode else it wont be enough aggro to get imps off healers. As long as locks FR is high enough you can have dozens of imps and they will hardly make a scratch. but I wouldnt go in with less than 250 FR
'enrage' = casts 6k+ shadow bolts on everyone constantly.

While the primary thought about this fight is the use of a warlock will make this fight cake, but I will be the first to say a mage with 5 points into magic absorption with 260+ fire resist gear is amazing. If you don't have any warlocks but you do have a mage willing to drop into arcane a smidge, go with this route.
Stock up on heavy fire resist gear and enjoy nearly infinite mana regeneration. The fight becomes trivial at this point. This entire fight is focused around two things: Adds, and the demon chains. Make a macro:
/target Demon Chain
And now that you have targeting the chain down, the mage will deal with the adds by running in, waiting for 6 imps to engage, and lighting up. You never want to kill them TOO fast, or else you effectively kill your mana batteries. If things ever become too sticky for the mage, he can run OUT of the room and Line-of-Sight the little imps while he uses an evocate.
Minimum Requirements:
1 mage
260 fire resistance
5/5 Magic Absorption
Recommended:
1 mage
300+ fire resistance
5/5 Magic Absorption
3/3 Improved Flamestrike
Blast wave
This does not mean our frostie brethren are in a worse position to execute this than fire mages! Any mage will do, but
the point is to remember even if you do not have a warlock, mages WILL make this fight just as easy!
AoE is their bread and butter and they're very good at it!

Even as Demo warlock its easy to AoE the adds. Just pop out a fel hunter for +70 resists, and soul link. I took very little damage even with only 70 fire res, but dont let the imps build up, my seed of corruption was getting delayed alot by the knockbacks, almost to the point where i -couldnt- cast it.
Downed him in 3 minutes 30 seconds. My fel hunter was still alive at this point even though it had received no heals.

We had many problems for slow dps (and slow dps on demon chains) and Terestian healing himself and killing us with sacrifice.
But then we succeded with:
Group 1: a warrior protection tank, shadow priest, affliction warlock and 2 holy paladins.
Group 2: holy priest, warrior in protection gear, 3 random dps.
All the raid members must be near Terestian, and near the circle of sacrifice in the floor. The main tank gets Terestian, the second Kil'Rek and both tanks keep those demon on the warlock's AoE (Seed of Corruption) so imps from portals, Terestian and Kil'Rek get damage.
Terestian doesn't make AoE attack, so keep the paladin healers on him in melee combat (when the main tank has gained a bit of aggro) making judgement of wisdom and refreshing him with seal of crusader. Every time paladins can, they MUST cast consacration and holy wrath.
When a party member is sacrificed, all the healers start to heal the sacrified player and all dps (and the warlock) shot at the chains. Even paladin healers can make an occasionally divine favor -> holy shok on the demon chains.
Keep in mind that AoE attacks (Consacration, seed of Corruption) DON'T HIT the demon chains.
Dwarven Stoneform, Paladin Blessing of Protection DON'T WORK on the sacrified player.
Use Divine Shield if you are a paladin, but keep in mind that he has 5 minute cooldown, so be ready to heal other pally with bubble in cd.
With concentration aura, paladin AoE the work of the warlock is easier (paladin's AoE distract imps for 1 second, making easy for the lock to cast Seed of Corruption). With shadow priest, judgement of wisdom everyone has mana to fight.
For the healers: keep everyone alive, but keep an eye on the warlock, and don't forget to heal the main tank, so when demon chains pop in game you can cast your healing spells on the sacrifed raid member.

this fight is about two things mostly ..
1. AoEing the summoned imps ..
2. Nuking the chains ..
AoEing the imps is relatively simple if you have a warlock .. much more easier .. but a mage can easily do it with no prob's at all .. ^^
the other part that stands as an issue to most guilds doing this boss for the 1st time (inexperianced) .. is nuking the demon chains ..
it is very important .. that the chains are nuked in 3 - 4 secs .. they must be downed very fast .. taking a long time on a chain will ensure that your healers OOM faster and the sacrificed unit is .. well .. sacrificed XD ..
dps on the boss shouldn't be an issue .. when he lil' buddy dies .. you gain 15% more dmg on illhoof .. so .. gg ..
the other detail i want to talk about is ..
macro's are a +++++ in this fight !
having two macros ..
1. /target Demon Chain >> spam this macro throughout the whole fight .. while casting .. hitting .. w/e .. you'll target the chains automatically once they're up and NUKE asap ..
2. /yell ZOMG .. I'm Being Sacrificed .. HEAL ME .. >>> this is when you're being sacrificed .. it helps healers + DPS units notice that you're being sacrificed .. it helps .. ^^
if i ever played a healer char. .. i'd enlist several macro's that help .. but unfortunatly .. i'm still addicted to my mage and NEVER played a char. except him since i started playing wow .. lewl ..
Have fun downing this boss .. ^^

Well, I was the only warlock in every Karazhan run I got involved. I am a (fire) destruction warlock with Demonic Sacrifice talent. I sacrifice felhunter before the fight begins, to get the mana regen buff, and don't use mana potions or Life Tap even for once. Just spamming Seed of Corruption on Terestian. Rest of our guild focuses on killing demon chains immediately and then imp boss and then, finally, Terestian. One of our healers, usually a paladin one, is assigned to the one in the chains and not caring about the other members most of the time so he never gets oom.
I don't have neither a decent amount of fire resistance (only Blood Elves' racial, which is 5 points to be exact) nor Nether Protection talent to become immune to fire damage by a chance. So I guess your warlock also wouldn't need.
Have fun!

This is a simple fight for Rogues...
Use wound poison to lessen his healing during demon chains
Have your tank, tank illhoof so that the tanks back is too the door (on top of the circle, near a side). This allows you to attack demon chains from behind (e.g. backstab), decreasing the duration its up. Using the macros metioned in other posts simplifies targeting.
Elixir of Demonslaying (
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=9224
) is great for this fight too.
And oh yeah, you'll probably take little to no damage the whole fight. Does it get any better than that.

A paladin tank and a single moderately-geared (blue with a few epics will do fine) warlock are all you need for the little imps. Pally judges and seals wisdom on Illhoof and keeps swinging at him all the time, while simply spamming consecrate on a position where it picks up all the imps. When there are like 8-12 imps up, have your warlock SoC them to death. He should never pull aggro off the imps if the pally tank has RF on and spams consecrate enough.

This fight is very dependent on AoEing the Imps. Warlocks/Mages are the best for this job, but having a DPS warrior doesnt hurt at all, for Whirlwinding will do alot of damage on these little beasts.
We had an OKAYLY geared warlock for our AoE and we got him to 26% when we wiped, but thats only because our warlock only had like 2 epics. So, if you have a good warlock/ and or mage, your good to go, seed of corruption FTW.

Done this multiple times as a fairly well geared Prot Paladin. We only had two hunters and a holy paladin do aoe them. Hence I tanked up to 30 imps, easy due to healers focusing on me and everybody stacking on me, hence no imp outside concecration. We had to AoE only a few times, ignoring kill'rek entirely.
Note: With (about) 600+ spell dmg and a fair amount of HP / Avoidance, concecration DOES work to tank and kill the imps.

IF you do that and DPS down the boss then you will be fine. That little pet of his has to go down before him just so he gets his debuff. FAST HEALS are a HUGE requierment to this.

-Have a warrior off tank the imp, but done try to kill it fast
-Get a lock, well geared to seed of coruption all the little imps
-Make a macro /target demon chains, for all melee
-Conserve mana for all casters, and for a mage, help the lock aoe all the little imps...
With this, you should get him down, if anyone has anything else they'de like to add pls do so..

This guy is so simple...I don't think we've wiped on him yet. The key for us is to totally ignore the imp and just put all dps on Illhoof and the chains when they pop up. Have the MT tank the Imp and Illhoof and, like I said, ignore the imp completely. He will eventually die with all the aoe damage going on with the little imps, caused by the locks/mages, but it is not important. This guy dies every time we do that strategy.

Rogues will learn to love this fight: have your tank bring the imp pet next too Illhoof then use blade flurry when attacking him, tears through the crappy imp whilst doing a nice amount of dps on the boss too. If you use slice and dice, hit it @ the same time for a nice increase in dmg.

belive it or not a we did this with no lock and 2 mages with no fire resist. heres how we did it first you need a well gear pally tank and some well geared healers. pally tank consecrate tanks the imps illhoof and the OT takes his buddy. two healers on the tank one on the chain. all dsp on the chain when it comes up, and if the heals land on the tank right illhoofs dead in no time.
btw hes the servent goes down illhoof takes 25% more damage. so dps the servent to 20% wait till the chain comes, down the chain then the servent and dps the crap out of illhoof. rinse and repete.

well tbh just use the macro to make sure chains go down ASAP, as heals on sacrifice target heal illhoof :)
warrior on illhoof and druid on kilrek in kitty form is what we have, lock spams seed of corruption on illhoof, which gets teh imps aswell, then when there are too many simply get a mag to arxane explode a bit to get numbers down,
druid get kilrek to 20% hp just nuke it down, illhoof gets the debuff and nuke. then repeat when he respawns.
keep aoe in check, destroy chains fast as possible, and its not a hard fight :D

I love this fight.
Myself and another 'lock, both Affliction, had never done the fight, so we were a bit worried when we were told to Seed the group of imps before Illhoof. In the words of the other Warlock.. "After you, Lecter."
Anyway, it wasn't as bad as we thought it'd be, neither of us died, and our dps SHOT up! For all you Warlocks, this is where you truly shine. Dark Pact and/or Life Tap will receive heavy use in this fight, and basically all you'll do is hit Seed of Corruption over and over.
It really depends on where your casters/healers are standing; if they're all grouped near the tank, you can just spam Seed on Illhoof, and the imps should be attacking raiders (mainly you) close enough to Illhoof to be hit w/ the explosion.
If, as in my case, they're spread out a bit more, just switch between Illhoof and a random imp in the middle.

I downed him the other day 1st try with my guild
All I had to do was OT the imp as a feral druid and do my best to dps the chains when they came up and I had macros to them, at the end we just killed the imp and took him out, seemed to be quite an easy fight but reading from above it doesnt seem to be, also when i tuned around I saw an utterly OOM and low on health exhausted raid group and a mass of dead imps scattered everywhere xD

Best warlock spec for Seed of Corruptioning the imps would be destruction with Nether Protection.
I did it today with affliction, all you need is lots and lots of mana (I had Dark Pact) and some fire res, also
Hyper-Radiant Flame Reflector
works on Firebolts.

very boring fight for me (first time I did it). two holy palas, one healing the raid & OT (Druid) & the other healing MT (prot war) and me (holy priest) healing the person in chains.
I ended up just spamming PoM around alot and using holy nova (yes, lol! 21/40 priest with it:). none of us went below 50% mana from what i could see, and no deaths. ZZzzz
Two 'locks spamming SoC worked wonderfully, and chains were down very fast. (good tip with the /macro, ty:)

It's not really the chains that get us. It's the imps getting out of hand. And as a Druid off tank for the fight another macro is very important /target Kil' Rek.

The macro that currently works for my guild and I is:
/target Demon Chains
Never had a problem with it, it's always worked flawlessly.

Toughest thing on this guy for my guild seems to be losing me to the chains. I'm resto druid healing raid and our lock on this fight, and when I get in chains, even with barkskin, I go down almost every time. I don't think it's HP really as much as it is that if you're a healer, you need to get your quickest heal off on the person being sacrificed ASAP. Mine are all instants, so a rejuv+swiftmend easily softens then blow, giving our pally or shammy plenty of time to get their heals off on the person being sacrificed, but when that isn't there, people die before anyone can do anything. Basically...react and heal QUICK.

Is kil rek all that nessacary?

All on boss (Ignore imp friend)
Assign a lock to spam seed on illhoof
Ensure your lock has a healer
Seeds will instantly explode on Illhoof, as they only need 1k damage to explode.
Just Spam seed on Illhoof
Tell lock to life tap / Dark pact if affliction, they will be getting healed. Imps only hit for 200-300 dmg.

With the patch following 14. February on 2007, this guy received a major buff. Very difficult compared to his previous version, ended up with my raid skipping him after a few attempts (We'll be back!).
Apparently Netherprotection works well in this fight as well, though it seems abuse :P

does anyone know if this macro works for the healers:
/assist demonic chains
/cast Flash Heal
It works on other mobs because it picks up the their target. I noticed one person said you can't pick your target up from the chains or maybe he meant you would not have time to pick up that way. I will try it out and post the results.

He is actually fairly easy IF you get the tactics right from the off and if everyone pulls their weight.
First assign one person to the imp adds give them massive fire resist and they can last all fight long (warlock especially useful for this).
Get everyone to macro /target demonchain.
With deadly boss mod or the like it tells you roughly when sacrifice is coming as soon as it does drop everything from all dps and switch target using macro.
the big imp must be killed to get extra damage on the boss, he doesnt hit too hard and is very kitable so a second tank is advisable but NOT essential, he can be stunned, stunlocked, snared etc as a hunter I wingclipped him and it stopped him dead with improved wingclip, same with concussive shot then he was easy bait. Get all dps on the big imp each time hes up but ALWAYS prioritise the demonchain sacrifice.
Once the imp is down and sacrifice is off (normally he sacrifices just after you kill kil'rek) then all out dps on the boss. Depending on your dps you will cycle this 6 - 10 times before he drops.
The number one priority is switching to the demonchain as soon as it appears as sacrifice does 1500 damage a tick to whoever is in it.
If the small imps become too much then have people aoe them down they have low hps and dont hit hard so dont worry about aggro. I.e if you see more than 8 - 10 start aoe'ing.
Once you have this tactic down you shouldnt lose a player on this fight and will find him alot easier.

we took illhoof down today on the first try. i was the warlock assigned to SoC iffhoof constantly and being this was my first time i was a bit apprehensive. i had about 50 FR and and kara level gear and let me tell you, you dont need that heavy FR to get through the boss easily. maybe it was because i was "sacrificed" a few times but i had no trouble keeping my health up and life tapping my mana back. i had a dedicated druid healer with a little help from our priest, but there wasnt even anything that i would consider a close call (30% hp or less). easy fight with a decent group and not as bad as people make it out to be.
