Sothos and Jarien are spawned as part of the Dungeon Set 2 questline, in the last room of the Scarlet side of Stratholme. They spawn simultaneously, in the center of the room, facing each other perpendicular to the door. It is possible to move out of the room before they become hostile - they do not aggro automatically. They will remain until defeated; there is no need to resummon them upon wiping, or even if the brazier holder leaves the instance or group.
They have several abilities:
Shadow Bolt Volley: Hits all targets for 300-700 shadow damage.
Shield Charge: Charges and knocks down a single random target dealing a small amout of physical damage.
Shield Slam: Interrupts spell casting and deals a small amount of physical damage; used on caster targets in melee range.
Fear: Fears all enemies. Interruptible.
Shadow Shock: Deals roughly 800 shadow damage to a single target.
Cleave: Standard frontal cleave.
Mortal Strike: Typical MS effect.
After one twin is killed, it will spawn as a human ghost, and assist you in killing the other, which will enrage, increasing damage dealt and movement speed by a very significant margin (
). If you wipe after killing one twin, the ghost will despawn and both twins will completely reset.
They are not leashable. The twins have far higher than normal weapon skill, enough so to land crushing blows on level 70 players with 350 defense.
How do you summon these guys?
Third attempt and we won last night.
First time was a hunter, a pally, a warlock, a priest and rogue (me). We got them on the first attempt however, the priest died, the pally died and I died. We didn't have the soulstone up :\ by the time I got back the body was gone.
The next time, we had a defence warrior, a feral druid, a warlock a priest and of course: me. We wiped on them cause of that stinkin cleave. Then the 2nd time we switched the tanking up and won with no one dying.
The loot in the chest was BoE. Got the amulet twice.
This special Dungeon 2 boss fight is summoned in Lord Dorothan (Balnazzar)'s chamber in SC Stratholme.
Jarien and Sothos is an interesting fight. After you summon them, they will come out and chat with each other for a few seconds, and then they will attack you together. When you kill one of them, their spirit will appear and will help you fight the other one (but the spirit is weak and will die quickly).
Jarien and Sothos are Undead. I recommend killing Sothos first.
Jarien: The only two abilities I caught Jarien using were Sinister Strike and Cleave. Jarien hits very, very hard, and his cleave HURTS. He isn't as bad as Sothos though.
Sothos: She is a caster (with a shield), and has three abilities to watch out for. She has an instant-cast Shadowbolt Volley spell, which does 700-800 Shadow damage. She can cast a mass fear effect. She also has a Shield Charge move, and will randomly charge ranged people and send them flying.
It's good to have two tanks for this fight. A priest or paladin will be a huge boon for shadow resistance buffs; a dwarf priest would be optimal (Fear Ward). They are undead so a paladin can tank them fairly well. Have the tougher tank keep Jarien away from the party while the DPS takes down Sothos. Then consentrate on Jarien (being careful of the Cleave).
After both have fallen, you can loot your amulet piece from one of their bodies, and your BOP loot will appear in a chest in the center of the room.
Good luck in defeating Jarien and Sothos!
Just finished this duo. With a feral druid tanking, here's what showed up in recap:
-Shadow Bolt Volley
--5 total charges
Spirit of Sothos
-Shadow Bolt Volley
Sothos total incoming damage (i.e. max hp): 14974
Jarien total: 42736
Note, though, sothos's spirit put out just over 10k damage on jarien, so it's not as daunting as it might appear. Hope this helps people going to do the event :)
You have to summon them as part of the tier 0.5 upgrade quests. I think it's on the Helm/Chest part.

warrior, druid , priest, mage and rogue .
warrior tanked jarien near throne, druid in bearform took sothos just into corridor, priest stood between the two while we nailed sothos, then all back in for jarien. very easy really, thought they were much harder. our priest and mage have a few epics from mc but the rest of us have ubrs/pvp and whatever 0.5 kit we have managed to assemble. brd group encounter is far trickier than this.
good luck with it...
This is how my group handled him. I believe it was my prot warrior, shammy, mage, priest and rogue.
We killed Balz then cleared the whole hallway of undead. We summoned him in the room but then fought him in the hall. I held Jarien by Balz room and everybody else fought Sothos down the other side. I kept laughing as I saw my party coming running back while feared. They DPSed her down then she came and beat on Jarien and helped us kill him.
Just did this with some guildmates. Definitely wasn't expecting it to be as difficult as it was, but, even with our group as it was (2 Druids, 2 Warriors, 1 Priest), we still pulled it off. The mobs went after the healers and seemed to be pretty smart, and their Fear didnt help at all either.
The ring we wanted didn't drop, unfortunately :( Interesting fight, though!
