These guys will "collapse" themselves at about 10% health or when you kill them...whichever comes first. It causes a tad over 1,000 health when they explode. Be sure you're not on your last bit of health or they'll kill you....or be at range.
The "collapse" is counter-spell/silence/whateverable, so if you're quick with your fingers you can stop them from doing it.
Just get away from it at around 10% and the collapse won't hit you.
they explode 1000-1500 shadow dmg and it crits wen they die
i just cas earth shock
or any other shock and they die befor exploding
Also of note, it hits for more the closer you are to them when they die. It seems max range is somewhere between 15-20 yards.
as of patch 2.2, i dont thnk these guys drop motes of shadow anymore. farmed them for 30 min and didn't get a single mote, even though i got several greens.
wach out they do 1000 sum dmg when they die.
Just a tad of trivia about these guys -- If you have an addon installed that allows you to see the target's damage taken on their portrait, when they Collapse you can see them take around 60,000 damage, whether it's the castable or on death version. So yeah, there's no chance they can ever do both versions.
There Collapse is resistable.
Unkillable as Shadow Priest. Better find someone to help you.
@#$% THESE THINGS
Alfreak I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm a shadowpriest, and can kill these without a problem. Are you thinking of the other ones that absorb the damage of the first spell you cast on them? Those you just stay out of shadowform and use a rank 1 Smite for your first cast then use your normal rotation.
once they get to about 9 or 10% health, they start casting some collapsing move, which hits you for about 1400 shadow dmg i think. if you get them that low or see them casting something, run away immediately. they're really slow so easy to get away from, but if you can't kill them before they finish the cast then you're gonna get a big hit.
if they complete the cast it kills them anyway, so you might as well just run.. only make sure you dont run into another mob! they spawn randomly and its really easy to accidently agro.
Don't try to finish it with any melee moves. Even if you kill it before it casts the explosion it will still happen. When you get it low wait until it starts casting and just run away.
Thottbot really does suck for drop rate info! listen to everyone else who posts comments ;)
the drop rate on mote of shadow is not 59% i have kill around 20 and they have only drop 1mote of shadow
Iv been killing them for about 15 min's now and i got 3 motes and 2 were from the same collapsing voidwalker.
Some days are better than others. I've had days where every kill drops a mote and on other days (same mobs) no drops. Not sure if Bliz cycles the drop for certain days of the week or time of day, but if I'm having trouble picking up a certain kind of mote I usually switch to a different kind. It is also worth mentioning that if you don't get many drops the first time you clear a group of mobs. Clear them again and it's likely that the drop rate will be better. As the saying goes:
"If at first...
you don't succeed...
Drop rate is really low off these... ick.
i think the drop reats are combined for the different level mobs roaming in this area, Im finding the lv 61 mobs have around 22% drop rate while the 62-63 lvl mobs are dropping at a slightly higher 29-30%, maybe thot combines the 2 for its summary
The reason why the drop rate listed is too high is because there is a flaw in how they calculate drop rate. The calculation is based on the percentage of items that drop, so if nothing drops off that kill (ignoring money) then it's ignored from the calculations. Most kills drop something so the calculations are not far off and no one notices, but the void walkers tend to only drop money. So, of the items they do drop, a decent percent is motes of shadow. But I agree, you seem to get 1 mote about every 15 kills.
I've been farming for shadow here with no issues at all. Granted, the motes don't drop off every mob, but when they do drop it's usually in 2's. As a 70 feral, I tear thru them pretty easily, which makes this location the easiest and quickest. I farmed 24 motes in 1/2 hr. I need 12 primals, so really, not a bad grind. The voids up in Netherstorm drop fairly well, but really....these lower levels make it quicker. Happy farming.
Edit: by the way, only the collapsing kind have been dropping them for me.
these voidwalkers drop motes all the time in half an hour i get nearly 2primals, so dont not farm em coz u think their not gonna drop
Anybody know how close together these mobs are? It's annoying when mobs leash back....
Affliction farming FTW!
Ok, it appears this thread lacks basic statistic skills. Whoever kills 15 mobs and gets 1 or 2 motes and concludes the drop rate is about 10% should go back to school and repeat maths. Statistics is all about variable results and only when you kill hundreds will you get close to the apparent drop rate. Using Mobinfo addon i have estimated the drop rates for both these and the vascillitating voildwalkers is between 30-40% on a pool of about 150 mobs (btw i give such a wide allowance for variation as 150 isnt a big pool). Anyone who goes "no! i killed 20 and didnt get one" hold off your comments, you may now go kill 5 and get 2 motes off each. when killing small numbers its very easy to get huge variations from the actual drop rate. This is a good place to farm motes of shadow. All those who disagree go talk to your maths teacher and get back to me. I farm about 4-5 primals an hour here on a mage. Thats roughly 100-125G on my server an hour. Not a bad income if you ask me.
All I did to get away from the explosion is wait until they start casting and walk back about 10 yards and use the pallys demonic ranged attack. Or hammer of pursuit both worked and I kept my HP.
Just killed about 50 of these and only got 1 mote drop. Not sure if its been changed or something, but not really worth grinding if they dont drop more than that.
Same, I killed 20 and got none, they nerfed drop on this
Just killed roughly 90 in about 30 minutes and have 23 motes to show for it. This small sample size at least shows a 25% drop rate. Don't think they nerfed this spot, you just had bad luck.
this place is not bad it has a great drop rate on my 70 rogue in about 1 hour i got 50 motes so it is not as bad as most say.
Nasty Voidwalkers that are located in void ridge are a perfenct farm for mote of shadow. But... be aware! This farming can be your last! This Voidwarlker collapses for shadow damage killing himself and if he dies before the spellcast he explodes too! Not a problem i hear? Well... practicly not, but be aware of nearby Voidwalkers collapsing when killed from other players.
The guys are pretty straightforward, but they have 2 nasty spells. 1st is a fear that lasts 4sec (I don't know if it can send you over the edge, but it might). Will of the Forsaken helps if you're undead. Second: when low on life they start casting a spell, Collapse. If they finish it, they explode for insane shadow dmg (1200-1500). If they die before completing the collapse they will still explode for 500-600 dmg. Best way to deal with them is to run away from them and make your pet run away AS SOON AS THE SPELL STARTS because it has a wide range and if you don't run early enough you will be hit.
Even at lvl 70 that bang in the end is a killer. Really reduces the speed of which you can kill em. Add a few not so helpful friends kill em all around you and you're actually gonna die in no time if you don't watch your step.
is a quest related mob, you need to kill it and loot
Follow the east direction from Spinebreaker Post. You should see the mountains east of Zeth'Gor. There is the edge of peninsula east of them.
There are mobs within the area you can loot
- drop chance is 100%, just the number of shards varies.
