You don't need a key to zone in to this instance, just a raid group.
It's located on the south side of Hellfire Citadel down at the bottom ground level. There is a summoning stone down there.
Trash is on a one hour cooldown from the first death. There are four packs of 3 mobs. One of them roams.

As well as Magtheridon, there are 5 Hellfire Channelers in his room that summon fire adds. The toughest part of the fight is trying to survive taking the Channelers down whilst keeping their summoned adds and Magtheridon under control. It's easy to get overwhelmed. The infernals have been nerfed a LOT, and no longer can 2-shot cloth wearers. In addition, the channeler's spells have longer cast times and can be interrupted more easily. Overall, a pretty big nerf to this encounter

When we started Magtheridon, we found it helpful to have the RL assign icons to the guys who had to click the next queue. I'd make two macros that auto-assigned icons to predetermined players, it would look something like this:
Macro 1:
/script SetRaidTarget("target A",index)
/script SetRaidTarget("target B",index)
/script SetRaidTarget("target C",index)
/script SetRaidTarget("target D",index)
/script SetRaidTarget("target E",index)
I'd replace Target A-E with player names in my raid, Index would be a number from 1-8:
0 = no icon
1 = Yellow 4-point Star
2 = Orange Circle
3 = Purple Diamond
4 = Green Triangle
5 = White Crescent Moon
6 = Blue Square
7 = Red "X" Cross
8 = White Skull
I'd have two version of this macro, with the same icons but different guys (obviously). The icons would correspond to the icons we assigned the channelers standing by the cube before we start the fight.
That way a Cube would "become" the star-cube, x-cube, etc., and we would have an easier time communicating.
Whenever a cube had been clicked, I'd activate the other macro and raid icons would move from the first group, to the second group of clickers. No one would ever mess up in whether it was their turn or not in this way, and as RL I could easily survey whether all 5 guys were up by looking for the icons.

Specific to Hunters:
Be sure to disable Auto-Shot when it comes time for you to click your cube. I accidentally left it on and lag caused my next shot to break my channeling, Exhausting my Mind and wiping my raid.
Embarrassing.

To people who's about to try this guy:
My raid usually used a warrior to tank this guy - our warrior had 3/5 t4, and 1/5 t5, etc etc.
He was hitting the warrior for 7k dmg max, while when I tried to tank him (4/5), (I'm a feral druid by the way) hitted me for 5k max, this is really something you should take into consideration, we found it way easier to let druids tank him.

Mind Exhaustion is not applied until Magtheridon is successfully banished.
so while you'll still need a main clicker, a 2nd clicker, and a backup clicker (for if someone dies) you no longer have to worry about clicking twice or moving accidentaly after you click.

The 2.3 change to the Mind Exhaustion debuff makes this fight considerably less sensitive to wipes caused by things like latency, delayed loading of the channeling graphic, or simple accidental misclicks. However, this remains the most challenging T4 encounter to organize and plan. Assignment macros and an addon like Orion Magtheridon Assist can greatly simplify the preparation involved in staging an attempt.

Contrary to a lot of other bosses in TBC and contrary to what a lot of guilds think, this fight is not a DPS race at all, you simply need control. Once you learn to control the Infernals in phase 1 and interupt all the casting from the channelers, you should arrive at phase 2 healthy and ready to DPS Mag. From there the raid takes almost no damage and you will probably have an excess of healing to keep the MT topped at all times. Just go nice and steady and keep on top of the clicking.

Changed on 2.4 PTR -- no infernals and 30 sec mind exhaustion instead of 85, so you need only 5 clickers for the whole fight.

Just FYI to confirm, we killed Mag last night on the live realm, all the changes are accurate. He's is 110% easier (not that he was hard to begin with): only one infernal per channeler, ceiling fall damage reduced, click debuff reduced, etc.

Magtheridon, the former Lord of Outland, is a Pit Lord who conquered the ruins of the orcish homeworld following its destruction. His reign was ended by the arrival of Illidan Stormrage, who took Magtheridon's throne at The Black Temple for himself. Deciding that Magtheridon would have a further part to play, Illidan had Magtheridon's body dragged to the Hellfire Citadel where he imprisoned the Pit Lord, leaving him at the mercy of the fel orcs. His rumbling cries are heard throughout the Hellfire Citadel. It is interesting to note that his wardens are not fel orcs, but normal green-skinned orcs. It seems that Illidan is keeping Magtheridon alive for the sole reason to create more fel orcs under his rule.

i discovered that at 30% when he caves in the roof on every1. if i moved around i took triple the damage but if i just stood still i only took the 5k or whatever it is. dont move.. my raid did unfortunately get Quake on most of the dps/healers/ clickers during that cave in once. and wiped us because we were moving. Is there a timer on quake or is it just random. starting 40secs after he activates?

Straight from 2.1 patch notes:
Hellfire Citadel:Magtheridon's Lair
Hellfire Warders have been significantly reduced in difficulty.
Hellfire Channeler's Shadow Bolt Volley has been made much more easy to interrupt.
The melee damage of Burning Abyssals has been significantly reduced.
Looks like they nerfed the encounter a bit.

also at 30% he goes enraged an knocks the walla nd the ceiling falls hitting everying in raid for 6k damage no way to avoid that and also debree will fall from the ceiling. The debree is a 1 shot and ive been hit by it for about 120,000. thats alittle bit of overkill.

This is a 25 Man Raid located in the Hellfire citadel in HFP. There is no attunement. Its entirely trash mobs except the last room, and it only takes about 20 minutes to get to the room.
You will need to tank all of the casters around the room. Once phase 2 begins all the casters should be downed. You will need deadly boss mods for this to know when he begins to cast his Blast Nova, a powerful spell that WILL kill you unless it is disarmed. The only way to do this is to Have 6 people click the Rubik cubes located around the room. Click these after he does his ability that knocks you around the room. You will have to continue to do this throughout the fight.
At 30% he drops debris from the ceiling. This is where it becomes Tricky. You will need about a group of healers for this.
My guild has downed him once out of our 2 attempts. He really is not hard as long as you keep him from doing the Blast nova.

Background Information
Magtheridon is a Pit Lord, who used to rule the Outlands from within the Black Temple. His reign was ended, however, with the arrival of Illidan. Upon defeat, Magtheridon was taken to the Hellfire Citadel, where he is now imprisoned, his blood being channeled in order to corrupt orcs and add to Illidan's massive army of fel orcs.
Today, Magtheridon is still being held captive within the Hellfire Citadel, on the lower most level. Guarded by the orc warlock Warders, and banished under the spells of the Channelers, reaching Magtheridon will be no easy task, and one shouldn't expect gratitude, should he be freed...
Trash Mobs
Hellfire Warders - Come in groups of 3, 4 groups total, one hour respawn.
Major Abilities:
Shadow Bolt Volley - Hits raid for ~2000 shadow damage, must be interrupted.
Shadow Word: Pain - Random target DoT, ticks for 1000 shadow damage every 3 seconds, for 6 seconds.
Unstable Affliction - Ticks for 500 shadow damage every 3 seconds. Causes 4500 shadow damage if dispelled.
Rain of Fire - Instant Cast AoE. Deals 1900 Fire damage every 2 seconds, cannot be interupted, must be avoided.
Death Coil - Targets second closest person, deals 2000 shadow damage, not dispellable.
Fear - Targets random person, lasts 8 seconds. Not dispellable. Tremor Totem can break, immune abilities work.
Shadow Burst - Targets main aggro. Knockback, deals 2000 shadow damage, reduces aggro.
Basic Melee - 2000-4000 physical damage against 14000 armor.
Encounter Mobs
Hellfire Channelers - Five total, will not aggro until a hostile action is taken against them. ~240,000 health.
Major Abilities:
Shadow Volley - Hits all players within 30 yards for 1800 shadow damage.
Dark Mending - Heals a Channeler for 70,000-80,000 health. Two second cast.
Summon Abyssal - Summons standard infernal. A channeler can only have two abyssals active at any given time.
Soul Transfer - Upon death, the remaining Channelers gain the Soul Transfer buff. Damage and Cast time increased by 30%. Size increased by 20%. Stackable.
Abyssal
- Deals 2500-3500 fire damage to the player in which it lands. CC'able with all standard forms of CC. Despawns after 60 seconds.
Major Abilities:
Fire Blast - 3300 Fire damage to a random player within 20 yards.
Manticron Cubes
- Not exactly a mob, but does have abilities.
Major Abilities:
DoT - Deals 800 shadow damage every second to the channeler while being channeled.
Mind Exhaustion - Debuff applied to a player after using a Cube that disallows the player to use another cube until the debuff has expired. Lasts 90 seconds.
Magtheridon
- Becomes active 120 seconds after channelers are engaged.
Major Abilities:
Basic Melee - 6000-7000 physical damage vs. 14000 armor.
Cleave - 180 degree frontal attack, deals 8000-9000 physical damage vs. 14000 armor.
Quake - First occurs 40 seconds after Magtheridon becomes active. Knocks players away in a random direction ever second for 7 seconds. 50 second cooldown.
Blast Nova - First cast 60 seconds after Magtheridon becomes active. Deals 2500 Fire damage to every player in the zone, every 2 seconds for 10 seconds. 2 second cast. 60 second cooldown.
The Encounter
Before Starting
Two five-man groups will need to be established to rotate cube activation (due to the Mind Exhaustion debuff, the same people cannot activate the cubes for every Blast Nova). Each person should be assigned to a specific cube.
Phase 1
Phase 1 begins when a hostile action is taken against any of the Hellfire Channelers. This causes all of the channelers to break from their cubes and run towards the person who took the initial action. Each channeler will need to be tanked and spread out to avoid stacking the Shadow Volley. It is possible for one tank to tank the first two Channelers, although the raid will be taking twice as much shadow damage from the volley as needed.
The channelers should be taken down in a predetermined order in respect to which tank is tanking it. Due to the stacking buff the channelers receive when one dies, the two weakest tanks should take the first two. The Main Tank should tank the third (so that that tank is free of mobs when Magtheridon becomes active). The third best geared tank should tank the fourth, and the second best geared tank should tank the fifth.
It is important for the DPS classes capable of spell interupts to interupt the Dark Mending spell, since it is imperative that the Channelers die in a timely fashion. Warlocks and Mages will need to help control the abyssals. There will be no more than 10 up at any time, and they despawn after 60 seconds. As more channelers die, less abyssals will be active. Abyssals can be affected by banish, fear, nova, etc.
Phase 2
Phase 2 begins 120 seconds after the first channeler has been engaged. At this time, Magtheridon becomes active and should be picked up b the Main Tank. All DPS should focus on killing the remaining channelers before switching focus to Magtheridon.
40 seconds after Phase 2 begins, Magtheridon will cast his Quake ability During this time, the Main Tank will take no damage, however, all casts will be interupted. It is important to keep the Main Tank at high health before the Quake so that he doesn't get killed from a large hit immediately after the Quake is finished.
60 seconds after Phase 2 begins, Magtheridon will begin to cast his first Blast Nova. The first interrupt group should already be in position, and as soon as Magtheridon begins to cast, the first group should all click their Cubes. While the Cubes are clicked, Magtheridon will be banished (dealing no damage to the Main Tank, and takes 200% damage), however, those channeling the cubes will be taking 800 shadow damage every second. The duration of the banish is largely dependent on the raid make up (for example, a high number of healers means you can have a longer banish to compensate for the lack of dps).
Phase 3
Phase 3 begins when Magtheridon reaches 30%. Once this occurs, he will "Shatter Walls" that deals 5000-7000 physical damage to all players. It is best to wait until immediately after a Blast Nova to begin Phase 3. All Phase 2 abilities remain and a new ability, Cave In, will occur periodically. The Cave In deals 90,000-113,000 damage to anyone standing in the Cave In. Each Cave In is preceded by a Cave In animation (approx. 3 seconds), which gives players enough time to move out of the Cave In (which will result in instant death).

my guild went in there last night for the first time, the coordination of clicking the cubes takes some doing. we must have wiped 10-11 times, had a few wipes cause of lag and computers crashing.
Anyways last attempt everything is going great and mag is at 3-4% last blast nova comes up and someone didnt click their cube. raid wiped on last attempt at 3 percent

While Mag's seen a couple of nerfs since the original comments in this thread, it's still a challenging encounter. The trash leading up to him has become easier as people have picked up better gear, but on the fight itself, there are many roles to assign and bringing him down takes some preparation. Just to make 2 corrections on the storyline here:
1) One post above mine mentioned something about Thrall or Grom charging their weapon and throw at this guy, um...that was another pit lord named Mannoroth, yes also a pit lord, but not Magtheridon, thank you.
2) No Illidan wouldn't "own" Magtheridon even on his best day, anyone who played WC3 would remember that Illidan needed a grand army ( including himself in demon form, Kael'Thas and his phoenix, Vashj, Akama and his 2 wolves, and a whole buncha Nagas and BE ) just to take him down, and even then Illidan's army would be badly wounded. So, if Illidan was to take on Mag 1 on 1 Mag would kick his arse like a dog.

It seems that the main reason to down Magtheridon is that he is the ONLY mob in the game who drops the Tier 4 chestpiece.
So, you'd do him if you really, really, really wanted to complete your Tier 4 set.
Of course, by that time, you and your guild buddies will probably be well-enough geared that you can start doing SSC and the TK eye, to accumulate Tier 5 gear....

This Fight is very easy if your cube clickers know what they are doing i'm a cube clicker for my guild. it is very important that the clickers be range DPS i myself and a Moonkin druid and find this fight very very simple. he does tremors also at witch time all the raid will be sent in random directions its for the best that the cube clickers try adn stay near there cubes during theses tremors

here it is kael was forced to fight a undead army by hiself so he accepted lady vashjs ade.
then he was banished from human lands and went through dark port to meet illidan.
then seeing illlidan trapped in cage by maiev he helped free him then illidan needed base.
so he found black temple but mag ruled it he was more than a match with the twin blades of azzinoth(illidans epic drops)he gave mag a chance to surrender and he did.
so ill trapped him in helfire citadel but kael didnt like wat mag's blood did to his elves so left illidans team
i belive its true may be wrong but the stuff before kaels elves is true rest is 50 50 chance

Magtheridon is a gear check more than anything, and as with many other end game raid encounters, the more warlocks you bring the easier it gets.
So lets get on with the fight then. Magtheridon stands in the middle of a circular room, banished. Around him are five channelers which will not aggro unless you attack them first. Attacking them starts the encounter.
The channelers each have 240k hp in total, summons infernals that needs to be cc'd, casts a shadow bolt volley that hits everything around them, and they also occasionally heal themselves. Curse of tongues/Mind numbing poison must be on at all times.
Because there are five channelers, you also will need to bring five tanks, one for each channeler. Killing one channeler boosts the other channelers damage and casting speed by 30%, therefore you'll need well geared tanks, preferably flasked, to tank the last two of them.
Magtheridon himself breaks loose two minutes after starting the encounter, and at that point your main tank must be ready to take him on. If you have not killed atleast three of the channelers already, it will get quite hectic for a while. Healers will have to deal with healing the Main tank aswell as healing the raid because of the remaining channelers.
Blast nova/Cube duty: In Magtheridon's room there are five cubes. Channeling all the cubes will increase damage dealt to him by 200% aswell as interrupting his blast nova which he casts every one minute or so. The blast nova is preceeded by a 1 second cast time, and is a channeling spell that hits entire raid for about 2500 damage per tick. Needless to say, if you take too many hits you wont last long. You should have two groups of five people each assigned to channeling the cubes. While channeling you will get a 800 damage/sec dot so assign healers to keep them up. Try time the channeling so that everyone clicks the cube the instant he starts casting the spell (the one second cast timer), and then hold the cube for as long as possible in order to give dps some extra sauce. Keep HP in mind and step away from the cube if you get too low. Once you step away from the cube you will get a debuff preventing you from interacting with it again for 1 minute+. This is why you need another five people to click it next time.
At 30% HP, Magtheridon will cause the roof to fall in on you. All raid members will take about 6000 damage, so use healthstones and healthpots. If you survive this you shouldn't have a problem with the remaining 30%.
