This can be a pretty rough fight and practically requires you to keep your tank topped off at all times (lifebloom can help here). He has a time stop ability and does not stop attacking when he uses this, he also has a breath that deals a considerable amount of damage (~3k+) so you need to face him away from the group. Try to DPS him down fast as your healer can run out of mana quickly. What REALLY helps on this fight is if you managed to save all your dragons for this last fight, they do a considerable amount of damage (~12%) to him and can make the fight from a really hard one, to a joke. Like anything rinse and repeat, dps, breath, heal, HoT, timestop, heal.

You can't use your chrono beacons for the boss dragons, your summoned dragon will disappear. But you can use it for the trash mobs the bosses will spawn, but since Aeonus doesn't have any trash mobs there is no use for the beacon.
The Black Morass
As you enter the instance you will encounter three types of mobs (Spiders, Crocs, and Stealthed Cats) and all of these mobs are non-elites. As you move forward in the instance you will see Medivh surrounded by a red casting effect. The event will start the minute you get near Medivh, so avoid him until your group has cleared a good distance around Medivh of all three types of mobs. This gives you and your party room to move safely about during the event.
Once cleared of crocs, spiders, and cats make sure you are full-buffed and have your consumeables ready. Move close to Medivh to start the event. On the top center of your screen you will see a percentage of remaining shield left on Medivh and a Rift Status Counter. Your objective is to keep Medivh's shield from reaching zero percent and destroy what comes through each of the 18 Rifts.
Rift 1/18 will spawn somewhere in the woods surrounding Medivh. First, an elite Rift Keeper will come out and channel a spell near the Rift to keep it open. As long as the Rift Keeper is alive, the Rift stays open. As long as the rift stays open, more non-elite dragonflight will spawn from the Rift and head towards Medivh. One person in your party is to crowd control the non-elites and prevent them from hitting Medivh. Your main tank is always on the Rift Keeper until it dies. The Rift Keeper is channeling, mind you, so your party moves to each Rift as they spawn and tanks them there. Slay the Rift Keeper and finish the non-elites. There is time to drink between each Rift if you do this efficiently and quickly.
Each Rift will spawn somewhere in the woods surrounding Medivh. Rinse repeat with the elite Rift Keeper and non-elites.
However, there will be Bosses on Rift number 6, 12, and finally Rift 18. Non-elites will continue to spawn from the rifts as these are open so continue preventing them from reaching Medivh. After each boss kill there is a significantly longer time to res dead, drink, or prepare.
1st Boss - Casts a magical slowing debuff (dispellable). Aoe knockback. Spank and tank.
2nd Boss - Puts a debuff on your main tank (much like Kurinaxx) that reduces healing effects by 10% each stack. Obviously, this is a very heavy dps fight so you burn him as fast as possible. This is the only time when your crowdcontrol does not crowdcontrol and instead does damage to the boss.
3rd Boss - Hits like a truck and uses Time Stop (Much like Chromaggus). If you are a healer, you will get time-stopped and your tank will drop health fast. Shielding when time-stop wears off is efficient and as are HoT's (Heal over Time ). No non-elites come out of the 18th Rift so your crowdcontrol should be dps'ing.
After the 3rd boss is down, you are done with Black Morass. Talk to Medivh, complete your quest, and get your Karazhan key. Good luck.
This boss is incredibly easy if you all save your dragons. As previously stated, he will only get rid of one, and they tear him apart. Since the rest of the instance is pretty easy, it shouldn't be too hard to save them all until the end, and then the end boss is cake. Definitely most recommended strategy.
I strongly recommend the use of the beacons here, as others have said. We have had great success dropping them at around 80%. The boss does dismiss the bronze dragons, but only one at a time so the rest provide amazing DPS while they are up.
As a healing priest, this encounter is not difficult to heal through at all. His special abilities, time stop and sand breath make for marginal challenges but even those are easy to deal with as long as the tank is topped off. HoTs help, of course. Now, this all assumes that your tank has the mental faculties to point him away from the rest of the party - if anyone but the tank eats sand breath, things can go wrong very quickly. Provided your group has decent DPS and with the dragons helping out, you should come out of this fight with plenty of mana to spare.
2.0.10 this encounter is changed, as is all of DP (black morass). All of the bosses can despawn the bronze dragons at any time. When they "dispel" them, all of them will go at once.
So the old strat of "save your beacons and throw them all on aeonus" is no longer viable: he'll remove them all in 1 second and be agro'd.
Since they made this change, we no longer save our beacons, we now throw them down any time we don't want to deal with adds (temporus). The bronze dragons from the beacons will absolutely destroy any adds near them for the 20 or so seconds they're around. That is their intended use.
Side note, this change was actually hotfixed before the patch was released, not that it matters now, just FYI blizzard = ninja patchers when they want to.
I went to CoT2 several times yesterday (so under 2.0.10 conditions) and the chrono beacons were still usable at Aeonus and still helped burn him down a lot faster... still I heard from others too, that they will be dispelled.
Since you basically dont need them before, depending on your group setup, you might want to just throw them on Aeonus - they will still make it a lot easier :)
Warriors - you can use the spell reflection just before he does his timestop (seems to happen more often after sand breath from experience). Doesn't help you much with getting extra heals but at least you can shield block yourself still and pot up if required.
As a level 70 lock you can cast Seed of Corruption on the elite when the adds come out of the portal. If you have enough +damage you can take out the add in one go. If you crit you take out an entire squad of the things.
Specially handy against the flying dragon thingies.
I found out its not really a good idea to use it on the bosses though. Since you may need to focus DPS on them instead of the adds.
Mages can blink out of his Time Stop ability.
We got Legplates of the Bold AND Latro's Shifting Sword off him last night... very nice. Our MT (incredible gear, the Legplates were the last piece of gear he wanted before Kara) went down when Aeonus was at about 30 - 40% because of the Time Stop.
I was on my fury spec'd war with my dps gear on, eq'd my shield, and was able to just barely survive through the rest of the battle. Very close. He hits extremely hard, and the time stop ability really sucks. Like the 2nd boss in BM, this one is all about DPS.
One other note: use the dragons on the last 5 spawns after the 2nd boss. They come very quickly, and given that the instance is timed and taking too long will mean you lose, it was worth it for us.
There is nothing more annoying than seeing a boss at 20% only to be time stopped one-tenth of a second before the big heal lands, have your tank eaten, have a second person eaten...
Unless it's managing to keep a mage alive vs his melee and breath only to be time-stopped AGAIN at 7%. RAWR.
A Beast Mastery hunter under the influence of Bestial Wrath is immune to Timestop.
I would love to hear some Heroic strategies. The last boss drops a belt I'd really like, but the one time I've tried it heroic, the difficulty was so massively amped up that we barely killed the first rift keeper. He just seemed to have about 3-4x times the health and hit about 2-3x harder. It was the warrior type, and his thunderclap had about a 20 yard radius.
Anyone out there with success stories for Heroic Black Morass?
We found that if Medivh's shield is still at 100% and you wipe on aeonus, you can rush back to the instance for a second try and not have to reset the instance. Medivh's shield should still be at 30% by the time you've healed back up and rebuffed.
However, this boss, in my opinion is easier that Temporus if you have a Hunter with you and shouldn't wipe anyways.
Tanked him last night.
To be honest he's easier than temporus for a warrior. It's almost a 'tank n' spank'. The only thing to be aware of here, is that he has an aoe stun effect. This means you really need to be generating good aggro at the start. 5x sunders, shield slams, etc.
After downing boss 17, relax. Aeonus will beat on medivh's shield for awhile without any problems. Let everyone rest up.
Tank runs in. As you do this people drop the beacons.
Aeonus will try to dispell the beacon guards if they pull aggro from the tank. The beacon gaurds hit like a freaking truck - so it's hard to keep aggro on yourself. Taunt is your friend here. The beacons will get him down to 50% pretty quick. From there it's a tank n' spank.
Pretty hard for a Paladin healer as a Time-Stopped heal can equal failure. Bring an offhealer, preferrably a Druid. I had a Balance Druid DPSing in normal form and spamming HoTs, I never went below ~70% mana nor did the tank go below ~70% health.
The new 2.2 patch has nerfed Heroic BM and BM in general to a lesser extent:
* Increased recast time on Shadow Bolt Volley on Rift Keeper, also reduced damage on Heroic.
* Reduced hit points of Infinite Executioners on Heroic.
* Decreases the maximum possible stacks of Temporus' Mortal Wound from 10 to 7.
* Increased recast time for Temporus' Hasten spell on Heroic.
I tanked Aeonus and he does hit like a truck, the key to taking him down is using your chrono-beacons in order and having one up at all times. The only time he hit me for 8k was when the last person in chrono-beacon rotation didn't put it up. Done with: Druid (Tank), Druid (Healer), 2x Rogues and a Hunter.
If everyone uses the beacons at once he dies before they wear off.
If you got to Aeonus, you probably won't need this beacon strategy. Granted, most of the instance is not that healing intensive, but if you got to portal #18, your healer can't be that bad. Just tank him, and trust the healer to keep you alive.
We fired the beacons on wave 13-17, one each, to speed up the fights, and then were almost fully regenerated when Aeonus spawned. I'd suggest that you at least fire one beacon on wave 17 to save mana on your healer.
Btw. I'm play a shaman, and I solo-healed that fight. If your priest doesn't keep you alive with the shields and hots a shaman hasn't got, something's wrong.
another way to do him is not aggroing him, when he spawns. there are no other adds in this fight and he does the same dmg to the shield that every other dragon does. so you can reg while he plays with medivh and then attack.
the only real dmg from him is the breath. but even that can be healed (even from a pala as only healer).
if you have beacons left, you can speed up the fight.
If you wipe on this boss, you can run in, res, regen, and have enough time to engage in combat with him again (tried once).
It does not matter how much % Medivh has on its shield until this % is not 0. If you finish the fight on 1%, quite good.
Aeonus can be tranq shotted to remove his frenzy effect. This makes the fight a lot easier.
tried this instance today for the 1st time, and took him down. The last fight isn't very long, so if you're a priest, like me, you won't need alot of mana regen gear, just use +x to heals, or +int gear. He hits like a truck, and crits frequently, so, basically spam flash heals and shields, and keep HoT's up to stabilize. He periodically "stops time," which more or less stuns the party for about 2-3 seconds, so keep the tank topped off. You will get a few oppotunities to use greater heals, but not many. He doesn't seem to have any AoE abilities, or at least didn't use any in our fight. Only the tank took hits. If you have good dps, and saved at least one beacon (we did not), he should be easy to take down. We pulled this off with mostly a level 67-68 group, so I can see this wouldn't be too tough if everyone's 70 (as intended).
To win this fight is just a matter of well timed heals, tanks not getting crit much (meaning +defense gear and some luck), and moderate dps.
ive done this place many times.. its easy all you do is put up all your chrono beacons at once and they #$%^ing kick the &*!@ out of him like literally we downed him in like 10 seconds and most of the time they aggro the boss so the tank or any of the party members dont even get hit. really easy fight if you all throw down your chrono beacons at once.
....and who needs em? Boss is the easiest in TBC cept for Pathaleon in Mechanar. Only problem is if you outaggro tank before a timestop
This is the only place in instance where you can slack
We took down Aeonus no problems, we had a resto druid healing and chucked on the Chrono-Beakons on keeping atleast 1 up at a time. It's a really easy fight, with the right group.
when fighting this guy, i gained aggro and he killed me. i released, ran back and got there just in time to see my group wiped, he was on a few mm's of health on the bar so i evasion tanked him and killed him, gloves of assassination dropped afterwards...lucky
Bring a hunter to tranq shot, his aoe stun has a less than 40 yard range, so hunters and mages with talents can dps him nonstop with no interruption, piece of cake if u plan.
i've heard if your immune to stun you dont get affected by time stop (beast within etc.) does that mean i could use the pvp trinket to get out of time stop?
Tried 3 times, first time we wiped on wave 17 noone had a beacon and there were allot of things popping out of the portal.
Second time we got to the bastard, did a big attack on tank, Tank on 68% Health.. Time stops me(LvL 70 Holy PAlly - Healer) when i tried to heal, so i got out of the time stop and tried to heal again, About 0.3 sec left before the heal and he does the Time stop again.. Tank 21%, he hits tank and does his tail attack again.. tank died and we wiped again.
Third time! I switched a bit of my healing gear to enchanted adamantite, had about 160 Arcane Resist total.. He still time stopped me like crazy. wipe again.
Am i just unlucky, or am i doing something wrong?
Does anyone know if arcane protection pots help? Since his time stop attack hits for a bit of arcane damage to..
We reached the boss only for one of our mages to dc as we engaged aeonus...no bother though still took him down easy enough..resto druid only healer , just kept tank topped with lifebloom and hots...
We 4 manedAeonus our lock died when he was at 100% cuz he summoned a beacon and gained aggro before the tank Group included warrior (me)ROgue,Sham,Pally, lock
Is there an emote or a tell for his enrage? I have tried to tranq shot him many times and recieved the message "Nothing to dispel." Most of the old raid mobs would turn red when they enraged or an emote message would pop up "so and so becomes enraged" or "so and so gathers energy." If there is a tell I am missing please advise. Thanks.
This boss is incredibly easy.
First and foremost, it's a 100% "healer's fight". There are no trick that the tank or DPS have to preform to keep the fight in check.
Because of the periodic time stops, the idea is to KEEP YOUR TANK AT OR NEAR 100% THE ENTIRE FIGHT. A paladin placing blessing of light and just rank 4 holy light spamming will easily keep any tank alive (and near 100%) untill he time stops. At that point, the paladin will still have Light's Grace up by the time time stop ends, so it can just cast a max rank holy light to outheal the boss damage. When the tank return to near 100% health, simply resume your rank 4 holy light spam.
For priests, simply flash heal/renew the tank to ensure it's at or near 100% health the whole time. Prayer of mending is slightly useless as the DPS shouldn't be taking any damage at all, and thus mending won't bounce around.
Even if he enrages, it's extremely noticable (boss starts bobbing it's head really fast smacking the tank like mad), and thus, extremely easy to heal through. Brought a mage, shaman, or priest? Spellsteal/purge/dispell it off.
Ive ran this several times with no problems at all. I (70 prot warr) try to keep boos in front of portal so I can see adds when they come out and hit them with TC or demo shout. They will only stay on me for a second or two, but that extra time seems to help.
What's this like on heroric? Im almost at revered and will try heroric in the next day or so, is there anything different or do they bosses just have more hp and more ap?
I am a restoration druid. Aeonus is quite hard to heal. What you want to do is bring a hunter. Tranquilizing shot removes his enrage from him and it makes it much easier to keep the tank up.
Yes he can be fairly hard to heal but finaly a boss meant for paladins. No aoe here just strict heavy hitting to the tank the trick is simply to overheal and stck to holy light.
Just a by the way, Aeonus's Time Stop IS spell-reflectable, it wont time stop him of course..but it lets the tank shield block and such while the rest of the group is frozen. Also since there really is no warning as to when he is going to do Time stop, it can be difficult to have spell reflect up at the right time :/
Well, I hopefully some day can get to this boss heh but idk if all the groups im in just suck or what but i've never been able to get past the second boss (about 25 runs) is there a special trick i need to be doing or does my group just suck ? yes, i am the tank...one group did have me on all out DPS on adds needless to say that group wiped real early
TY for stratagies i liked the eat and drink while he drains mehiv then pwn him! :D
i say that since mostly the reason people wipe is cause of debuffs or enemy buffs.
this fight is eazy when compared to the temporous (sp?) fight.(that is the flying dragon who spam the mortalstrike)just keep a hot on the tank at all times (unless your a pally which usin a lesser rank of healing with the faster cast time is more helpful)
if any one say pop a beacon for this guy feel free to call them a uber-noob the guys beacons summon are instantly despelled by any boss (althruogh this one has a aoe despell while the other one's are single target dispell i believe)
this boss is very mana draining for healers (since the time stop doesnt keep him from damaging the tank)
just drop beacons on the 5 portals before him to keep ur health and mana at full and then engage when everyone is ready.
and also my mobinfo shows 28 loots record for the first boss yet only 8 for this guy so that means i have attempted this instance 28 times yet only completed it 8 usaully cause instead of all dps the second boss the adds manager stays on adds instead of helping dps him so 10 stacks of that mortal strike means tank death means group wipe.
stratagey for the second boss--
if possable keep someone who can eazily pull aggoe without taunt and can tank him for ~15 seconds this is very helpful if your mt has 7+ stacks of mortal strike as it allow them to expire.
his hasten is considered a magic and can be dispelled and purged and should be.
all dps should be on him as soon as tank has sufficent aggroe *(the 2-3 sunder rule isnt a good idea for this fight*
other wise the fight is straight foward and even if you do not drop a beacon by medivh for adds and he take the brunt he's shield will only drop by ~75% at the maximum.
considering a average group makeup (with a few !@#$ups) mean he shield will only be around 95 by the time of this fight it isnt a wipe causing event. since your group will only need to worry for another 2-4 rifts and then pop one beacon for every rift from then on all the way to finel boss.
-* applies if warrior is tanking only.
And yes i like huge walls of text.
He Looks Like he is outside the instance is he the first or last boss?
Just killed him with warr, hunter, priest, lock, and mage (me). He is crazy and nearly killed the tank who had 12300 hp. But in an other group we wiped cause he made an aoe that hit me and the priest for 8k dmg.
ok havent done this fight in a while does he drop one or two items ty =D. need to find out becouse i want sword for rogue.
As far as his enrage goes, if you watch his status bar (the thing where dots and other effects go) you will see his enrage pop up. I ran it today and when he enraged an icon popped up on his status bar. I immediately tranquilized him and removed it. No big deal.
Troll Survival Hunter
This boss is one of the hardest bosses in the game before raids. for the simple fact that if u wipe u have to do all of BM again.
if u do wipe and the shield was around the 100%-90% u can have another go at the boss thou. be careful that u don't rush him after u wipe. did this today and shield was at 40% when every1 was alive but healer only had around 30% mana and a mage pulled so we wiped
also does it still work if u drop ur beacons on the boss or does he unsummon them?
he does unsummon them
Warriors can use Spell Reflection or whatever its called to block the Time Stop spell that aeonus uses on you
Pulled an Ace of blessings off him today.
Group make up: Tank (Prot Pally, Feral Druid, or Warrior), Hunter (required), Priest (required), Mage (optional, but very helpful), DPS (or pretty much anything)
WAVE 6 -- Boss 1:
-He does an AoE lightning strike to all players that does 2k damage; have a Priest spam AoE heals when he does this.
-Not very difficult.
WAVE 12 -- Boss 2:
-Have 1-2 players put a Beacon on Medivh to guard him from adds and completely ignore the adds; you need to kill him as fast as possible. Do not use Beacons on boss 2; they will glitch and the guards will disapear in seconds.
-He does a stacking debuff on the tank that reduces healing on tank by 10%(1 debuff) upto 100% (10 debuffs); he also berserks which stacks about 5 of these debuffs in a few seconds.
-Immune to taunt
-Have your priest use Dispell magic after every heal; his berserk is magic based and can be removed. This litterally saves your ass and is the most important thing about this boss. Removing his berserk turns this fight from nearly impossible into a cakewalk. He uses Berserk about 4-5 times during the fight so once wont cut it.
-Optional: If you don't have all DPS, use your Mage's Spellsteal on the tank around 5-6 debuffs. It will remove the effect off of him but it has the downside of really pissing him off and possibly killing your Mage.
-The 2 tanks offtanking strategy is extremely unreliable since even if one tank stops attacking, he cannot break aggro without Taunt very easily at all.
WAVE 18 -- Last Boss:
-Do not immediately attacking him on sight; he will charge Medivh and attack him. If Medivh is at a 100% it takes about 5 minutes to kill him which is far more than you need to mana and buff.
-This is only fight with no adds, only him.
-This guy does a hell of alot of damage in a few seconds; make sure your healer has Pots and anything else to keep up mana.
-Face him away from group; does a cone blast that does 3k
-Does a Time Stop move that freezes everyone for a seconds but he does not stop attacking; make sure your tank is always at +90%hp at all times
-Use your Hunter's Tranq shot, this will heavily reduce his DPS and will litterally save your ass. Doing this with two hunters will make this fight incredably easy.
-If you use your remaining beacons, use all of them at once.
1 Holy Priest
1 Prot. Warrior
Spellsteal rotation on the debuff, priest dispel, and/or felhunter to remove it.
Spellsteal being the obvious choice because it buffs up haste pretty fierce.
Do this and it'll never get past 2 debuffs.

Get record today Me rogue 70 comabt daggers, feral druid 70, aflict lock 70, resto shammy 70 and marksman hunter 70. Cleared for 25 min O.o
The easiest way my guild and I has found to take down this boss is to let the tank get some aggro and then dps the boss down to about 80%. Around 80%, have everyone throw the remaining beacons BEHIND the boss and nuke him like crazy. I was amazed at how fast he went down after that.
this fight is really nothing to worry about. aeonus hits pretty hard but nothing that can't be managed by a decent healer. basically, it's really only tanking and dpsing him down. the only critical situation that may arise is a nearly dead tank when the stun sets in, but so far, even with my mediocre equipment, that hasn't really been a problem.
1 Prot Warrior (me)
1 Holy Pally
1 Rogue (spec unknown)
1 Frost Mage
1 MM Hunter
Nearly a perfect run except for the rogue getting killed by the last boss. The more dps you have for this instance, the better.
this boss isnt as hard as what we thought, his didnt hit very hard until he use his breath which hit me 3.7k dmg (Feral druid with 10.7k health and 13k armor after self buff). So, just use all ur beacon and then everyone focus on it. Enjoy ur loot...

Protip: If you have a warrior tank for this fight, tell him to use spell reflect every time it's up. It actually works on time stop, negating the attack. So the warrior can pop a potion if he needs healing while his allies are frozen or hit shield wall if it came down to that. Also lets him build up extra threat during that time.

Burn the living out of him. This fight is a race: Kill him before he kills you.
One of the kills I didn't think we'd win was the group as follows:
Feral Druid (Me, ILotP healing)
2 Warriors, one in Dreadnaut
1 Hunter, Marksman spec
We set our beacons on the adds (Drop them near Medivh one at a time), and burned the living bejesus out of the boss. He went down before we got 8 debuffs on the tank.
Oh, and he despawns the beacon if the keeper goes too close to the boss.
On a side note for the whole instance, you need 2 healers: one on-spec, and the other off-spec who will off-heal. This could be done with a Holy Priest and a Feral Druid healing through Imp LotP, or a Shadow Priest healing from Shadow Form, and a more direct Resto Druid. Both work.
Well i must admiot i did died a few times but overall its an easy fight,
Simply get a tank, healer, dps and at least 1 mage.
Mage can handle adds the rest is taking riftlords and bosses
my max is shield is on 100% till aoenus comes out, then he hits it to 98% and we nuke..

This guy just needs fast dps. He's way easier than the second boss. Only thing to watch out for is him silencing the casters. The fight was so easy we started relaxing and the healer got silenced when the tank (feral druid) was low on health so he got killed and we wiped. Luckily we rushed back into and Medivh was still alive, so we just started the fight again with 50% health and mana (didn't take time to eat and drink). He went down fast as hell.
So just keep the tank above 60% and you've got yourself 2 free loots. We got the sword and the pally loot (damn those pally loots in BC, they're friggin' everywhere...). No rogue so i (fury warrior) got it. Now dual wielding with Blazeguard and this.
Too bad slow 1h swords are so hard to find... Fast main hand weapons are teh suck for crits, even though you gotta love the looks of that blade!
It seems that I have ran into this problem before...Just like baron in the old days...I ran Ud Strat a total of 65 runs before I saw my Shadowcraft pants and it would seem like I am about to do the same for my Assassination gloves so for I have ran it a total of 13 times full...Its got to the point where I can tell the group if we are ahead or behind in time..Vice someone who was ran it 2 or 3 times and panics if he thinks the bosses are not dropping fast enough...If anyone is having any problems feel free to post back I can help.
My group was slightly behind schedule and Aeonus came out with the 17th lord still at about 20%. Medivh was at around 44% shields and it was counting down fairly slow with just Aeonus on him. So we cleared up the last "trash" and mana up all with Aeonus on the shields. At around 15% shields, we engaged him and took him out.
So, if you have a bunch of % left on the shield, take the time to med up while he beats on the shield.
2/3 BM runs that I've done, we have lost because the rogue fell through the earth, the first of which being just as we pulled the final boss. I believe both times it was after being feared by a rift keeper. Has this happened to anyone else?
Keep in mind though, it was different groups, different rogues, and the other run had no rogue.
Found that a resto shammy was
useful for the whole run as the mana totem kept all casters mana up significantly. Only used my innervate a couple of times as a precaution.
