Can be a difficult fight. Two things to watch out for are his Chain Lightning and Levitate attacks. Spread out and the lightning won't chain to everyone. The Levitate will put someone in the air, unable to act for some time. If the tank or healer gets this it may be a problem.
Fourth and final boss encounter of Coilfang: Underbog. Spreading out is key to avoiding the lightning, but the levitate and static charge are what will really hurt. Static charge is a DOT that will do 750 nature per tick, essentially killing you unless you get heals. Set up a back up healer and secondary tank if possible. This fight is quite a bit harder than any previous boss in the instance ~ reminds me of Eranikus from Sunken Temple.
Final boss of the Underbog side of Coilfang Reservoir.
Does some sort of Levitate ability that throws a random person in the air and locks him in place, casters can still cast while levitating.
Chain Lightning for ~2k on main target.
And a seemingly random undispellable debuff that deals around 700 damage every second for 10/15 seconds, not sure about its duration.
2 Healers would be ideal for this fight, as when levitate occurs, nothing can stop it. People would be too far to dispel, and pally bubble doesn't break it.
As tough a fight this is, moving around the corner will reset this boss. Handy if your party gets unlucky or too close to each other during a chain lightning.
This fight is pretty easy. He'll do a chain lighting type of spell, so you'll want to spread out and make sure that you get a heal on everyone that is getting hit by it. Other than that, there's not much to the fight, this has been the easiest boss for both of my runs.
Me and some buddies 4 manned this guy last night. Pretty easy fight, just make sure that you don't waste time, he needs to go down fast. With 5 people I imagine this fight would have been downright simple.
64 Shadow priest
63 Affliction 'lock
64 Feral druid
64 Mutilate rogue
Didn't have any problems. The warlock was always the secondary aggro, so he floated, which wasn't a big issue. Got myself the dagger I wanted. :)
Some tips - spread out as soon as it starts casting chain lightning - it takes like 3-4 sec to cast, so you will have enough time.
Hunters and other ranged DPS can stand under the mushrooms to avoid levitation and stay in DPS range.
Put a feral druid as MT.
SUCCESS HUNTERS CAN STILL SHOOT WHILE LEVITATED!!! testethis theory, it doesnt show you shooting it does show damage ticks above his head so you know your shooting him. Levitate can also be cleansed by a pally.
Levitate can be dispelled. When you tank this boss tank him in the center of his platform. When he levitates you it is possible to stay in range to heal and do damage to the boss if you are a ranged class.
Here's a trick for feral druids tanking this thing. Have a hair trigger on Feral Charge, because if you get levitated, you can still charge before it "sets in." Twice in one fight I was levitated, but charged quickly. I was stuck in place but on the ground and holding aggro.
This is theoretically possible for warriors to do as well, though probably only for those DPSing this fight. The switch to Berserker Stance in order to Intercept may take too long.
edit: I haven't been thrown into the air while tanking this guy in either normal or heroic mode. This advice is probably out of date now.
This fight is basically the same on Heroic except for the addition of adds every 10-15s. They have about 6000 hp, Lightning Bolt for about 1k and appear to spawn at random around the outer edge of his little circular room.
The 'suspend' effect seems glitched. Right after I was hit with that debuff on my priest, I cast levitate on myself to avoid the imminent falling damage then attempted to dispel magic. The dispel magic would not work until I canceled my levitate.
Had a real problem my first time on this guy on my priest in my little guild's group, but that was because I was trying to dispel the levitate, which would be auto-reapplied as fast as I could dispel it.
Then I suddenly realized I was being a dee-dee-dee and could heal even while levitated, so long as the MT backed up a bit towards me to compensate for my increased range. Went smooth as silk after that.
PS Onara, that's a really nifty idea, gonna try that next time (tanking with earth elemental.)
In my experience, the worst part of this fight is the 700 dam/sec debuff he casts, that hits one player and everyone within 5-10 yards of him.
this means that with a group of 4 melee fighters, that's 2800 dam every second, for 10-15 seconds - enough to make pretty much any healer cry :)
I was in a group with all melee DPS, and the debuff killed us several times.
I played my priest, and I could easily outheal the melee damage and the chain lightning, as long as it didn't hit more than 2 or 3 people, but that debuff is a real killer.
So, if you're melee and you get the debuff, move away from the group.
hmmm, wish we had seen comments about ignoring adds on heroic mode ..... short of having 12 adds wiping group, encounter is pretty easy compared to the 2 boglord giants before the boss.
He seems kind of green to me, not black.
Did it lots of times with the following setup
warrior/druid, shaman, priest/moonkin druid, warlock, rogue.
if u have 3 dpssers, its not much of a problem however if u have 2 healers tell the priest/shaman/druid or palla to go dps mode. (whichever has better dmg gear, usually the priest going dps so the shaman could spamheal easily) Put bloodlust dps, ignore adds and kill him.
We got him to 19% pre-adds or something.
Main thing is just to nuke nuke nuke.
If you have a shaman let earth elemental grab agro / tank and unload, boss will be dead before elemental and only 3 adds or less will have spawned.
trash bog lords before him are a bigger challenge.
I'm happy to say that the Heroic encounter of this boss is by far the easiest out of the entire instance. For some reason, he did not use his Levitate ability, resulting in a clean and straightforward tank and spank fight which lasted less than a minute and a half. His lightning put some stress on our shaman healer, but all in all, the fight was not difficult at all.
This guy is sooo easy for heroic, we only wiped once cause people wernt paying attention and our healer liked to die
1 feral druid tank
1 resto druid
1 destro lock
1 marks hunter
1 elemental shaman
the elemental shaman obliterated the adds
tank died at about 10%, we used a combo of Vw and rock elemental,
TIP he can levitate warlock pets, so if your luck, it will use it on your pet
dropped the demonfaang helm, endbringer, primal nether, and the epic boots
In heroic it IS doable with 2 healers, just very very hard.
We killed him with a resto shaman, a resto druid, a mutilate rogue, a frost mage and me a protection paladin tanking.
Trick is positioning so you don't get blown away too far by the levitate, and being a paladin I can actually chain dispell myself to get back down to the ground, I can do that aswell with other people as long as their close. We also noticed that once we tried it with Blessing of Salvation on the healers the adds went straight for me. And thanks to our wonderfull healers who could outheal the adds and the boss long enough for the dps to do their jobs.
Tip: At random targets he does static charge a nasty debuff that does it's damage to you in aoe form to friendly targets, paladins can bubble out of this and rogue's can cloak of shadows out of this.
About the levitate: You can still cast while floating, and it's also possible to use blink in order to remove the debuff.
Pally tanks can use Divine Shield to break the levitate early and fall then dispel it (right click the shield buff) to carry on tanking.
1 healer, 3 dps and a tank ...
can easily be killed in 45 sec on heroic ... no adds to worry about
High dps and u have nothing to worry about
On heroic, this is what we did 21 june 2007:
druid tank, pala healer, shadow priest, rogue and frost mage.
We tried some tactics posted above here, but this worked best for us:
dps on the adds (until the boss was at 50% hp or less) and the priest heal/help them, he also helped with group healing: some greater heals on the paladin and renews on the group.
Paladin healed and spammed cleansing levitate from the tank to avoid loosing aggro. It took a few cleanses before it was successfully removed, it was reapplied a few times when cleansed.
The rogue didnt touch the boss before the adds spawned and when they did he killed them. This was to avoid the chain lightning followed by static charge which usually killed him. He also had to save his cloak of shadows incase he got the debuff since he attacked the boss between the adds.
The mage helped killing the adds and the boss, at the end he mostly focused on the boss.
We only cleansed levitate on the tank, the rogue never got it and healers/casters dont mind it unless they are put out of range.
Static charge was removed from the rogue by his cloak of shadow, the paladin removed it with bubble and the mage could use ice block if needed which helped a lot. I dont think either the mage or the priest got it anytime. The priest died from the adds after a while but at that time we were able to just nuke the boss.
Hope this helped some, from earlier comments it might not be the best tactic for all groups..
We managed to get him down after 4 tries, 5 hours of instancing with a enormous fun party, but 3 of us died at this bossfight.... While corperunning back, the corpse of the Black Stalker dissapeared, with our questitem in it... Horrifying
So watch out with his Corpse Despawning Time :(
In Heroic Mode:
This is actually easier than the boss before him. Basically a dps fight, ignore adds.
We completely ignored the adds and was able to dps down the boss very quickly. In fact, as a tanking druid I barely noticed the adds.
Not hard at all, just dps him down and run back the way you came from, and the adds will despawn.
Not sure if Blizzard changed this, but I was able to throw healing waves out while in mid air, so it doesn't happen to criple a healer as badly as before.
Just did the for the first time and it was extreamly easy
Paly - Heal
2 shadow priests
fight lasted maybe a min, straight DPS dual VE healing is pretty insane, went down really fast, paly died after the boss because all teh adds wacked him other then that it was cake
For Heroic Underbog in a group with:
What seems to work pretty well is to focus fire on The Black Stalker, then run around the corner to avoid getting hit by the adds.
YOU GUYS NEED TO STOP RATING THINGS DOWN WITHOUT ANSWERING VIABLE QUESTIONS. THAT IS WHAT THIS SITE IF FOR. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW, DO NOT RATE DOWN SO THAT SOMEONE THAT DOES KNOW; CAN ANSWER THE QUESTION. EXAMPLE: You always play a warrior and never played a rogue, don't rate the question / information down if you have only been on the receiving side of a rogue's attacks. Why? Because you don't know about them.
Any Rogues try to "
" his Static Charge during the 3 second cast time to interrupt before he can cast it?
Or have any Rogues tried "
" when being levitated??
Any immunities to
, etc. ???
Did this tonight with 2 Hunters, Healing Spec Pally, Warrior, and Lock. The fight was very easy. I went down due to all of the adds attacking me. Highly Recommend bringing a lock for the SS because if your healer gets hit they can rez midfight and lose aggro. Overall nowhere as hard as you may think getting to boss can be tricky because sting rays on the way to him are virtually non CC'able. High DPS makes this much easier.
I didnt read all comments trough, but I think I didn't see the following note... When I played my rogue, I was able to use Cloak of shadows to dispel the idiotic hellish debuff which killed me couple times there. When I realized that, I could go on with my dps and voila piece of cake.
In nonheroic tonight, this fight was impossible. Every time we got him about halfway, he would reset for some reason and go back to full health (4 attempts in all, same thing each time), even though everybody was in range of him. We kept trying to go further and further into his room, but it only resulted in needing to run back because we couldn't rez people without aggroing the boss.
I did this fight many times nonheroic a few months back and never saw this problem. Maybe something Blizz changed in 2.2 or 2.3?
At least in normal difficulty (possibly heroic, but I've never done that) you're not limited to instant-cast spells. I have successfully cast greater heal when levitated and in range of the tank - we'd have wiped without it. Of course, if levitate wears off mid-cast, you'll be interrupted.
standing behind him grants immunity to his chain lighting ........i wish i knew 2 wipes ago
ive always had a LOT of trouble with this boss, even on regular. if he happens to levitate the tank, for some reason, he gets put out of combat up there, and comes back down with zero threat. anyone else have this happen?
this boss aint hard at all since its pure tank and spank, did it easy with a kinda nevdinged tank and healer (no gear barely)
I did this yesterday, we were a group of 62 (prot) warrior tanking, lvl 70 shaman, lvl 68 rogue, lvl 63 frost mage and me lvl 60 holy paladin
We didn't have any problems on this one and nobody got killed, just let the tank get agro and let ur healer dispel the debuffs on the group, its not that hard, even lvl 60 pala can heal this :P
We just completed this boss on Heroic. Our team was a Healing Paladin, a Healing Priest, a Fury Warrior, a Protection Paladin and a Hunter.
We wiped three times. Our first strategy was to have the warrior and hunter burn down the adds when they showed up. But that took so much of their time, and they were all running around, that eventually the lack of DPS on The Black Stalker meant the fight lasted way too long, our healers went OOM, and that pretty much spelled the end of the fight.
On our last, and successful, try we decided to ignore the adds and put all our DPS right on the boss. This worked beautifully, everyone stayed in range of the heals and the Hunter's nature resist aura and the boss went down in about a minute and a half. So if you're having trouble dealing with the adds try ignoring them.
You can move like you would in water with the suspension debuff. If you're ranged DPS, just move close to the ground and stay in range. Melee DPS should just head to the floor via the sit button, commonly bound to the 'X' key. The reason I say this is because it slows you, so you really won't be able to get close enough in time to do damage, so you should just try to not get hurt yourself from the fall damage. Healers, same as the casters, except that you heal.
Sorry if anything like this is posted earlier, I really didn't check too thoroughly.
Just completed this on Heroic with me tanking (Prot Paladin) along with a Mage, Rogue, Hunter, and Priest. The rogue and I focused on the boss, while the mage and hunter popped the adds as they appeared before returning to the boss. Hunter
Aspect of the Wild
should be used if at all possible! Greatly helps for the lightning. Priest wedged himself under a nearby mushroom to counter the levitate. Fight went very smoothly with no deaths on the first attempt.
This guy has a huge knock back.
Spams Chain Lighting and hits really f!cking hard.
Need some degree of NR for this.
Final boss in CFR: The Underbog. Few Tips for downing him without much problem!
- Keep your tank at max range so the rest of your non-melee party doesn't connect with the Chain Lightning, hits for medium amount, but aslong as your healer is decent it shouldn't really be a problem.
- Nature DOT that ticks for approx. 750 damage on the afflicted player and spreads to surrounding party members, much like Hakkar's Corrupted Blood DOT. Healers keep an eye on your party debuffs for it, because it eats through HP pretty fast. Just FYI, you
dispel this DOT.
- Randomly levitates a party member into the air and holds them there for 20 seconds. Isn't really a problem because you can still ranged attack / heal while levitated, if your healer is Levitated, make sure your MT is still in healing range, drag the boss towards the healer if needed.
Although the MT/Healer wasn't specc'd properly, we managed to 4-man it fairly easily.
Lv.63 Fury Warrior, 6/8 Wrath.
Lv.61 Fire Mage.
Lv.62 Fire Mage.
Lv.62 Feral Druid, +930 Healing.
Not too hard at all, the Lv.64 Elite trash before him is harder, really. >_>;
Just downed him on heroic. In addition to his normal abilities, he spawns 3-4 adds every 15 or so seconds. The adds had around 6000 life and were hitting for 300-600 nature damage. Not too bad and if you can heal through the 2 bog lords before him and the 2 giant pull before hungarfen you can down him.
He dropped an epic gem, with +5 spellhit and 2mp/5, mail attackpower pants and a cloth +damage helm with over 30 int and stam. Also a primal nether.
Some of the casters I grouped with the other day said they could not cast while levi'd? Anyone else notice this or were they just out of range?
Just downed him on Heroic first try.
Dropped a Primal Nether, Stormsong Kilt (epic), Demonfang Ritual Helm, Stormshield of Renewel.
Group was as follows:
Paladin Tank (never once lost aggro and has insane health and block rate - 36% chance to ignore damage)
Ignored the adds and nuked the boss, we had some nature res pots (just the regular ones) before hand.
A very easy 4 Badge of Justice
Will Grounding Totem eat up the static charge DoT?
Just curious as grounding totem gains focus on any harmful spell, including world mob DoT's.
He drops the doomplate shoulder set piece(Plate dps set)
also dropped an epic gem: +6 spell crit +4 spell penetration
Not too hard, just the adds can get out of hand fast if not careful.
Why are there still no more kills logged of this guy?
I've been watching him on here for two weeks now, and in that time span, killed him 5 times. I'm sure more people have killed him, too.
I've killed the Black Stalker a few times on heroic, and attempted to upload my kill info to thott, and it has not shown as of yet. He's dropped a gem, some leather boots, and a few other things not worth noting. Hopefully the data gets uploaded soon.
As for a decent strat to killing this fella in a heroic is to just ignore all the adds and burn him down as fast as you can. This boss is very squishy, and a few cooldowns from all the dps will take this guy down in about 30-40 seconds, if you're decently geared.
Ran this tonight and although a lot of posters say that you can still range DPS while in the middle of the 20 sec levitate, my Hunter was lifted tice and in both cases I was not only raised but also pushed backwards and out of range so I was removed from the fight while i was levitated.
I don't know if Blizz changed the spell to move the victim out of range or what but wanted to make folks aware that if you are attacking ranged, it is probably a better idea not to be at full range distance because if you are levitated, you will be out of teh fight until you are set back down. ;)
Just got the sword from Black Stalker, we were 1 66 arcane mage,a 64 warlock,65 druid and then me Shaman 65 (our priest left before this boss) IT WAS SO VERY EASY! even HUNGARFEN was harder :D :D :D :D
Easy way to get to him on heroic.
/\/\/\/\ moved it, scroll up /\/\/\/\
the adds seem to always go for the healers... which can really mess you up . any ideas for ways in which to combat this?
The Black Stalker
boss in Heroic Underbog
Same as non heroic, does a chain lightning which is uninteruptable and cannot be spell reflected, as well as the levitate.
900 nature damage lightning bolt
3 Spore Striders them spawn at once and continue to spawn throughout the fight. Kill them off as they spawn and the fight is easy as pie.
mabye not 100% but its 99. something%, you can pretty much guarantee a drop, look it up it has drop rate listed
Thott only notes stuff that is looted and Primal Nether is sometimes left on the corpse (e.g. if no one in group can use it). It is 100% drop as noted on other sites.
Black Stalker is noted as 25 - 49% drop rate by the Armoury but other sites indicate much lower.
Just an added tip; if you have a shaman with you, have him drop Nature Resistance Totem. Helps to mitigate some of the chain lightning damage. This comes of course at sacrificing either Agility, Wind Fury, or Spell Damage/Healing bonus totem, so decide which is better for your group composition.
I don't know if anyone has said this but as a pala you can clense his levitate as well as bubbling yourself to get out of it.. so you can save other players from it...
I killed him a few times (no trouble). If you have good dps, the stalker will go down quite fast. Ignore the adds (it always worked). You can cast while levitating so there's no reason to dispell it.
PS heroic ofc.
If you are ranged dps you can stand under the purple mushrooms, and then you will not be levitated. This helps, as sometimes if you fight him in the wrong place he can lev you so that you will not have LOS.
We always ignore the adds, even in heroic he goes down fast with a decent group.
You know what? I am absolutely shocked that no one has posted about the absolute easiest way to kill this thing. Let me smarten you up. Just before you start the fight, when she's far away from your group, take a look at those huge purple mushrooms alongside the back wall. Place ALL your heavy range dps (Warlocks, mages, hunters, etc) underneath a mushroom. That makes them levitate proof! Everytime she tries to pick someone up, the roof of the musroom keeps them down. After that, it's pure spank and tank butchery. (Just make sure she's facing away from the group or it's chain lightning for everyone.) Glad I could help.
This guy Has about 75k HP and over all very little armour so he dies fast but if u as dps get aggro just for 3 sec ( If u get 2 big crits in a row or w/e) u will die realy fast... So u can say this is a pretty easy boss all in all
finally killed him with
the easiest way to kill him is kill him with everything u got lol if u are hunter and have a pet use that.
"if u have a pet use that" lol who wouldnt?
Do you have to run all of UD to get to him? Wanting to do the daily for the egg as quickly as possible.
well .... tried it, downed on first try, read one of the strats here, ( note everyone but our hunter was a 1st timer), key here, have a druid tank with 11k hp, and also be the best tank on your server ^^;;;
Static charge seems to be the problem when I did this.
Unfortunately, we wiped 2 times on this boss cuz the static charge affected me both times within like 30 sec of the fight and im the main healer.
Static charge does 750 dmg a sec.. hit me 12 times.. thats about 8000dmg.
3rd time we tried standing far away and that seemed to work. I didn't get static charged, but a mage did toward the end so we were able to kill him
One thing: everyone must be in the area he is in (the circular room) or he will reset. 1 Feral Druid and Mage died but had him down to 10% but since the other 3 casters were outside the area he cruised back into his realm and we lost the agro.
Once warrior or druid has agro until 90% health DPS him. You should win. Here was are party:
63 Feral Druid
63 Arcane Mage
63 Frost Mage
63 Warlock Destruction
61 Priest (not sure of spec)

The Black Stalker
Level 65 Beast (Elite)
Cannot be Tamed
Downed him after 3 whipes: me (64 feral druid), 66 lock, 63 rogue, 63 priest and 63 balance druid.
Rushed in, did some fairy fire, demoralizing roar etc till i got good aggro and just kept him in the middle of the room.
The levitate is decursable, but with us it only worked once every fight, and i don't know why that was.
If u stay spread out, the chain-lightning won't affect u much.
Never even noticed he debuffed me during fight, probably did happen, but with almost 12 K armor i didnt really see. The priest went through her mana pretty fast tough.
Dont know why, but on the 4th trie, we all didnt get below 80% health.....
when fighting him he can glitch and levitate him self..... at which point if you kill him while he is levitates he may NOT fall to the ground in which you will NOT be able to loot him, and have to wait on a GM to respond to a ticket.
Funny thing.. last time I ran through here, he tried levitating my imp, since he was going with the firebolts and not invisible.
Well, he got the levitate on him, but little impy didn't float away, didn't move at all. He stood right next to me the whole time with the weird levitation animation around him, still shooting firebolts.
Hard as hell!
He does Lavitate on a random party member.
Cant get dispelled.
He allso does a Static charge that kills you in 2 secs, that can aswell not be dispelled, neither outhealed.
He got a chainlightening aswell.
Not stunnable, nor spell interuptable.
he got very low HP though and dont hit to hard.
3 hunters (66, 65, 63)
Endbringer - From Heroic Underbog
2nd Time in Heroic Underbog...
...and i don't believe that Underbog Lords can hit plate by 6~10k!
died first time cuz our tank just ran in the boss, guess he didnt c it -.-
second time we made it. as im a mage i could easily survive static charge(750 damage each or each 2 sec, dunno) with ice block
2 healers are nice though :P
Alright ladies here's how we did it:
>>>>Make sure the warrior is at least 65 for this plan to work <<<<
Warrior charges in gets a few sunders, rogue and pet charge on in. Priest stays back as far as possible. In case you need to reset.
He does that Debuff that hurts, but usually only once. If it hits a low health target, bye-bye. Else you should be good.
He levitates a target. YOU CAN STILL CAST HERE. On your way up, you are "moving" so use instant casts. At max height, its just like on the ground. He tends to levitate those who are 2nd on the aggro list. Our Mage got killed halfway via debuff, him and the rogue were being levitated.
Chain Lightening. This is why the warrior must be 65. Halfway thru his cast time, use Spell Reflection. Rendered utterly useless and it helps with DPS.
It burned down the priest's mana a lot keeping up with heals.
have anyone one tried this fight with a protection pally,
this boss is hard, bewareof all its magic and make sure to nuke it before it kill somebody. good if Priest run and reset so he can ress(or shammy)
Did it with:
paladins 66 and 65
Took 3 tries to get it right but on the 3rd try there where no critical moments
Warrior turned boss away from the raid while everyone spread out to not be affected by chain lightning
Hunter and mage did damage while us 2 paladins healed with no major mana problems
Dont know the spec of anyone except the paladins (holy/ret and Holy/prot)
Very easy boss
In Heroic Mode in addition to his typical special abilities this guy spawns "clones". The clones do lightning bolts on about a 3 second cast - can be counter-spelled and do about 800 damage. First 3 will spawn then he keeps spawning them.
You have to take out the spawns (about 2k hp each) and return to him. Think of it like heroic Steamvault - the gnome mekgineer boss... kind of like that. We seemed to burn down 3 cycles and then he stopped spawning them at all... so if you stay on top of the spawns from the beginning they stop until you kill him.
Dropped the red colored version of the Nemesis Helm:
Demonfang Ritual Helm
19 spell hit (1.51%)
and epic gem:
+5 spell crit +5 penetration
as well as the Endbringer already listed.
Full Coilfang Heroic Clear - check!
