Blizzard appearently hot-fixed these to now drop motes of water instead of motes of mana. Droprate seems to be the same though.

I killed these for about an hour today. In that time, I got 47 motes of water, and not a single mote of mana. So, if they still do drop them, it is not worth grinding them for it.

Yeah, I reccomend the quest A Rare Bean out in Nagrand. It gives you a stack of cherries (20 of them) that let you breath underwater for a half an hour each. Makes this grind much better.

The only time dependant alternating drop I know of is the Sunscale Salmon and the Nightfin Snapper. The drop rates changed every 6 hours, from what I had observed.
12:00 AM - 6:00 AM = Just Nightfins
6:00 AM - 12:00 PM = Both
12:00 PM - 6:00 PM = Just Sunscales
6:00 PM - 12:00 AM = Both
If the motes these guys drop are time dependant, I'd bet that they are on a similar schedule as these fish.

In addition, for warlocks, this is a fantastic place to grind soul shards. The Eels go down fast, drop an easily sellable commodity (motes of water), is just a stone's throw from Shattrath, cater's to our underwater breathing spell, and is rarely overcrowded.
I'm not sure of the hitpoints on these guys either, but with a destro build, they die with Immo+Incinerate+1-2 secs of drain soul.

I'm still getting just Motes of Water. No mana. Farmed for 3 hours, 8pm to 11pm. Netted 3.5-4 primals per hour (with no competition as a 70 lock).
I prefer to swim South to North, eat/drink at the falls, and then fly back to the south end of the lake and do it again.

I farmed these for about an hour on Feb. 28th.
Got:
4.5 Primal Water
0 Primal Mana
~40G worth of grey stuff
6 Green items
Little competition, level 70 hunter.

Practically defenseless and cute. Who could resist?
I also only saw primal water, at about a 4/hr rate, grinding off and on between 7 and 8pm server time. It sounds like that's it here.

I got 5 Primal Waters in about 50 minutes. Nice grinding for a warlock with dark pact, they die so fast you never have to rest plus you've got underwater breathing. Started out on my own, halfway more people came along but respawn rate is quite good.

Pretty decent for motes of water. Took me an hour and eight minutes to get 4 primal water. Stopped twice to mine (4 nodes in total). Never stopped aside from that.

After 300 kills in two hours, I can make a post here to tell you about my impressions.
Total items:
- 61g in trash
- 10 Greens or so
- 9 Primal Water and 2 Motes of Water.
The droprate of Mote of Water is 30%.
It is really worth farming there. It is not farmed at all (I saw two other people) and there's always fish to kill.
It is better than Elemental Plateau since you don't have to worry about opposite faction or to wait for monsters to spawn.
However, you must have something to breathe water. I used Nagrand Cherry (
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=24421
) from a quest in Nagrand. If you already used all of these cherries or you deleted them, buy pots.
Primal Waters sell for 18g on my server. 61 + 18*9 = 223g in two hours, not counting greens (I disenchanted them so I don't know the price of each :p).
Good farming !

I was farming these guys for Motes of Water last night. Couldnt have been there for more then 40 minutes. (3 casts of Underwater Breathing) and walked out with 4 Primals, about 3 greens, and 100+ greys that vendored 1g+ per stack. Never saw Motes of mana
(I think it was from maybe 7:30-8:10pm Game Time.)
-Level 70 Affliction Warlock.
-Never stopped for anything but to loot the kills, swam constantly casting CoA, Corruption, Siphon Life, and even in the crowded sections of they didnt last long enough to get more then 3 eels at a time.

I have found these eels to be an excellent source of income. After farming several hundred of them and analyzing drop rates I have determined that each eel is worth roughly 80 silver on average. This may vary from server to server, but that is a rough average of what you can expect. Considering the speed which they can be killed, and their proximity to Shattrath, it makes them ideal for farming. If you plan on farming them for any extended period of time, I would suggest you invest in two items that will help maximize your income.
Azure Silk Belt - Increases swim speed by 15%
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=7052
This item is trivial to craft and really helps you get around the lake.
Elixer of Wather Breathing - Allow water breathing for 30 minutes
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=5996
These are sometimes a bit hard to come by, but they really help to maximize your kill speed since coming up for air will be one of your biggest time sinks.
It is also best to farm them while your faction has control of the spirit towers for the extra 5% damage boost. Happy farming!

Personally ( as of 8/1/2007 ), and Im sure some will agree, I think this is the fasted source of Motes of Water in outlands.
Reason:
At 70 these things are very easy to kill, sure their drop rate is only 18%, but you would be suprised how much that is when your killing one of these things every 15 seconds! I have tried so many places for Water Mote sources, Elemental Plataeu, Skettis, and that pond near Shattarath. Hated them all.
Came to the ring around Hala and circled it, everytime I came around the Water elementals were respawning, and as a 70 DPS warrior I was getting Motes of Water very fast.
Try it, see how you like it.

While these mobs have pathetic HP, they often drop Essence Of Water now as well as motes. So you're worse off farming these than Muck Spawns, which are all over Nagrand's lower areas.

Another thing to note if you're a Moonkin / Ele Shaman, is that these aren't immune to nature, unlike most water elementals.
In half an hour of grinding these, I killed 82 mobs, getting 19 motes, which fits pretty well with the listed droprate. You were unlucky, Callister :)

They have a good drop rate for their hp amount. You can kill them very fast and the respaw time is short so a non-stop farming will grant u like a primal every 10 minutes!

30 minutes I had 3 primals and a bunch of stacks of the junk they drop. Sells to merchant for 2g each.
As a frost mage this was a MUCH better area than the Elemental Plat. Two frostbolts and a fire blast and they were dead. I'm a newer level 70 with decent gear for having turned 70 a week or so ago but nothing spectacular.
A tip, give the eel two hits and then let them get almost in your face before giving the finishing kill. Avoids having to do extra swimming to pick up the drops.
A hunter was also in the water with me farming them. I tried going in the opposite direction and there seemed to be plenty spawns for us both. We rarely got in each others way.
The downside is no crystals for Halaa Research Tokens. However, consistant 3 (2 if I crit) hit kills compared to 7 or 8. As well as only two or three stops to get out of water for mana (as compared to almost every fight in Nagrand) out weighs the one con.
Also, its right outside Shattrath. So its easy to go back and forth as needed. Takes maybe 2-3 minutes on an epic ground mount to get to the lake. If that.

I love farming these. Discounting the motes of water, after around 30 minutes of farming ive made 15-20g in greys alone. I'm a level 66 shadow priest and I can almost kill these with a single SW:P. I usually just shield up, then swim buy and Vampiric Touch + SW:P all of the mobs I see, which is about 7 or 8 before I run out of mana.

Albeit what can be a mediocre drop rate on Motes of Water, due to this mob's low health, even if you are unfortunate with the drop rate, you are still able to mass farm Elemental Fragments/Primordial Essence. If you aren't undead, I would suggest taking
Elixir of Greater Water Breathing
along with you to farm so that you can farm as many mobs as possible and only have to stop to health/mana up instead of resurfacing constantly.
For all the frost mages out there who needs Primal Waters, these are your best friend. If you can, get your hands on an
Azure Silk Belt
beforehand. Also stock up on
Elixirs of Greater Water Breathing
to alleviate farming. Put up Ice Barrier, and Ice Lance every Eel you come across. Use Rank 1 Arcane Explosion to keep them agro'd, and pull about half the lake. Pop Ice Block, frost nova, trinket, Ice Barrier, AoE down (but not with Blizzard.) I farmed 2 Primal Waters in a matter of 10 minutes doing this.

Alright, after an hour of farming (or 131 kills), I have the following items (from playing a level 63 Beast Mastery Hunter):
Vendor Trash (gray): 112x
, 19x
, 1x
, 1x
, 1x
(This all equals out to 19g, 79s, 5c)
Common (white): 46x
(Avg. AH Price - 2g/ea)
Uncommon (green): 1x
, 1x
, 1x
, 1x
, 2x
Rare (blue): 1x
I prefer grinding in this area if you're trying to get gold, I've gotten two blues (from my two hours of grinding, so far), a ton of greens, vendor trash, and motes of water, and I
never
run out of mana killing these (I do two Steady Shots per battle), and the spawn rate is crazy. If you ever run out of food, mainly for Well Fed, just kill the Basilisks next to you for
, you can cook it up into
. The only downside that I see from this is you need to get underwater breathing so you don't have to come up every minute, which is a big waste of time. To counter this, I just pop on a
and grab a few
s if I can, that way I get around the lake quicker.
On my server I've never seen more than one person here, so it seems like there's not much competition.
!!! EDIT: I
highly
recommend turning your
s into
s. All of my Primal Mights sold, but the motes of water from the night before have not sold but two.

37 green equips
19 essence of water
75g worth of vendor-trash
i was a lvl 64 bm hunter , used the following while farming :
aspect of the viper ( gave me no downtime at all , i was killing those eels every 20sec's
15% speed increase
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=7052
and
underwater breathing
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=9452
( this staff took me 14 tries to get from that boss , really annoyed the crap out of me )
during those times i saw alot of lvl 70 players famring alongside me , and a few that were around my lvl , i actually went there becoz i wanted to grind for exp since they have low hp and could be killed fast
be careful though , thier respawn rate is crazy and they get respawned at the same time with high numbers , its nice since you will keep hitting away quite fast but if ur not careful u might die ( for me i didnt die once but i saw many players get pwned by 3-4 eels respawning at thier heads ,lol )

Mote of Water dropping, 2/04
Seems like a lot of people reporting that Mote of Mana no longer drops from the eels are basing that off of completing the
Rather Be Fishin'
quest. Or, more accurately, about 20 kills. Anyone who's a high enough level to kill these should be familiar with how frustrating probability can be in WoW, especially when dealing with such a low number of kills.
As a frost mage, this is one of the few (only?) places I can farm Primal Water for the
Frozen Shadoweave
set. I don't have an exact number, but based on my XP gain I've killed well over 1,000. Not a huge amount, but enough for me to be able to say that
Mote of Mana still drops from them :)
It is entirely possible, however, that the droprate was reduced significantly to reflect their level (as opposed to the level 67+'s that drop them). I've found about four times as many Mote of Water as Mana.
评论来自
Thottbot
When I first started farming these, I was happy because they ONLY were dropping motes of mana. (40 manas, no waters)
Then the next day (and for about a week) they dropped ONLY motes of water. (about 30 waters, no mana)
I go back there 2 days ago and they are ONLY dropping motes of mana again (23 manas, no waters)
And of course yesterday, they are only dropping waters. (15 waters, no mana).
Is there some quest someones doing that changes these? Or is it a night/day thing? Some in game event that is changing these?

There is something fishy about these fishes..
I am a warlock, currently lvl 66 with the build 24 / 31 (aprox), When i sacrefice my voidwalker i litteraly out regenerate these babys hp wise vs dmg.
These things are 3 times easyer to kill than a normal mob and that is not all. They do nearly no dmg at all.
Here comes the unbalanced part, they all drop motes of water 1 - 3 on every fifth fish. On my server a primal water sells for 30g, so if i can get 100 primal waters i am then 3000g richer and 3000g closer to epic flying mount.
BUT THAT IS NOT ALL! The trash that they drop easly sell for 20g after an hour of grinding + they drop a lot of greenies (as for my encounter i always get around 4 green items after a solid grinding periode of 2 - 3h). Its insane..
I once caught myself doing 213g per hour (titan panel stated that) while farming these..
My word to you; Farm these before blizzard nerfs them, they obviously forgot that these fishes have no hp and deal no dmg (for a warlock like myself i like to curse 10 fishes and continue.. i dont need a break, they deal
no
damage)..

I get the same drop rate in Nagrand around Halaa, but those mobs are 3-4 levels higher and spam annoying poison, but at least they're near Ogres that I kill for Netherweave for a change of pace.
farming motes is no fun at all; and I dread having to do it every freaking day.

After farming for about half an hour, I had:

So I would say the drop rate for the motes is pretty good. And they seemed to most often drop two at a time.
Hope this helps!

most of the time: shadowbolt, drain soul, crit +300 or so hp from soul leech, 1300 or so mana per mob from imp drain soul...
or maybe 2 shadowbolts, but still makes it the most mana efficient farming place...
wierd to think you gain hp and mana while farming continously

not bad for a 62...
i have done my whole frozen shadoweave set thanks to those stupid fishes.
i use a elixir of greater water breathing for one hour, and i go in zangarmarsh at the little fall. here i jump down and i start to gring till the end of the lake. here i get my mount and i go back in zangarmarsh...in thise time all this mob respawns and you can continue all the time you want....

When you think about the droprates..if they've gone down/up, then grind atleast 1000 of these before you make a statement please.
Now to the good stuff.
0.1185g 81%droprate Elemental Fragment
0.1325g 19%droprate Primordial Essence
2.0000g 26%droprate Mote of Water
these are the highest droprates...so, what could we get when we kill 100 of these?
0.1185g*81= 9.5985g(@vendor)
0.1325g*19= 2.5175g(@vendor)
2.0000g*26=52.0000g(@AH)
Thats 64g 11s 60c from 100 kills
These little guys have 3250hp average, thats 325 000hp.
Thats 1.9728copper per hp, lets say 2 copper per hp since it will drop more then just these t
hings.
So..whats you're dps? how much will you make in an hour? :)
Lets say you can chop of 200hp per sec, thats roughly 4s per second..2g 40s per min...144g per hour.
I searched
www.wowhead.com/tbc
for grey drops, that stacks in 20, and is worth more then 10s. These mobs are among the few who drop em at 80%droprate. The mote of water is probably the main reason to grind em, but hey..dont throw away those greys.
If my calculations are wrong, bare with me, I've worked all night, and I'm about to go to bed. :) happy grinding to all.
EDIT:
I have now tried it out, grinded for an hour, to see how the outcome would be.
247 kills,
1 hour
, 68233xp, warlock lvl69 affliction, mobs lvl62-63,
193g earned
.
(31%)76 Mote of Water(worth 2g each on my server)
(77%)191 Elemental Fragment
(23%)56 Primordial Essence
7 grey armors
2 green armors(vendor trash)
1 grey weapon
1 eternuim lockbox(sadly only 1g of vendor trash in it)
1 essence of water
I was probably lucky with the motes, or it was a good call to grind em at 4 at night. I was all alone, and I could kill non-stop.
If we backtrack this, we find my average dps that hour. 182g is what I earned from the top 3 drops. This amounts to 252.5dps. I'm fairly satisfied with this grind. I will probably do it more. :)
..on a funny little side note, they dont drop Elemental Fragment + Primordial Essence from one mob. Each mob drop 100% sure one of em, so its 100% sure to get 11s 85c or more from each mob. If I had been max unlucky, my grind would have resulted in 29g 26s 95c that hour. Thats with zero motes, and zero extra drops. 30g/hour worse case scenario. :)
Edit2:
I tried it again, this time with Azure Silk Belt(+15%swimming speed)
. I went from 247kill/h, to
295kill/h
. Those extra 50 kills means alot more gold. So find a tailor, and get yourself one of those belts. :) Earned
244g
in 1 hour(counting 1 mote of water as 2g), got 87 motes of water. Vendor trash alone gave me 70g.
I know its naiv of me to put all this out here thinking it wont get nerfed by blizz..but its been around for so long..why would they nerf it now..? ;) Anyways..if more and more grind mote of water, the prices will slide, and there is no need to nerf..but hey 70g from vendortrash alone is very good ;)
Sorry for the wall of text this has become, but I felt the need to mention one more thing, not sure if I mentioned it. I'm an affliction warlock, I can grind non-stop, without drinking or eating(I think I might have bandaged once during the one hour). Did this as lvl69, never tried it as lvl70, but I bet it would be abit easier. Faster then doing dailies too I guess. :)

1 Hour, 200 Kills - Rogue
x5 Primal Water Sold for 25G Each - 125G
x5 Essence of Water - Sold for 2G Each - 10G
x2 Greens - Sold for 7G Each - 14G
Vendor Trash - 30G
Had the place to myself, pretty much continual killing, other than the enevitible swimming. Didn't have a "Azure Belt", no doubt if I did, the outcome of kills/Primal Waters would be different.

So, I just did my own little survey.
Had the lake to myself, 100 kills.
AH:
Primal Water x 2* - 49g 98s
Green items x 2 - 14g 50s
Essence of water x 1 - 89s
All AH items were priced at the same price as the lowest price for the same item currently on the AH at the time. I'm a Horde on the Azjol-Nerub realm.
Vendor trash:
Primordial Essence x 20 - 2g 65s
Elemental Fragment x 80 - 9g 48s
Grey items x 2 - 94s 73c
Repairs - 59s 34c
So, if everything sells first time & not counting AH fees, I make it 77g 85s 39c for about an hours work.
* I actually got 19 x Mote of Water in the 100 kills, but carried on to get the last one to make it to a round 20. It dropped on the 103rd kill. The 3 Primordial Essence that the extra 3 dropped weren't counted.

Definitely the best place for farm for motes of water. As as 70 rogue, I farmed 8 motes in (literally) 5 minutes =)) Cheap Shot, Mutilate, Evis, and 1 dead eel ;p

Same here - 10 minutes farming equaled 8 motes of water.

I think you only get Motes of mana at a certain time during the day because ive killed 100 of these things for my transmute quest and all they dropepd was motes of water

Can we normalize grouping up to kill these guys? There's a
quest
to kill these guys, and the drop rate is not that great to begin with. What should only have taken ~10-20 min, took me over 2 hours to do during a low traffic time on my realm. And no one would accept my invites.
