Herod is a Warrior. He has a Whirlwind Attack and enrages at 50% health. In addition to these two abilities if aggro goes to some one not within a small range of him (outside his little arena area at the bottom of the room) he will sprint and do a very hard hit to whoever pulled the aggro, if it crits it can one shot them easily.
When he whirlwinds have everyone run outside of melee range (even the tank) until he stops as you won't get hit. Take this opportunity to bandage if you need to. You can still hit him with ranged attacks while he does this, but not spells.
When herod dies a bunch of Scarlet Trainees will run in (level 30 non-elites with about 100-150 hp). They don't pose much of a threat at all, melee them down or AoE them down.

Tupac has great info but I dont use that. 1st the war aggroes while noone attacks besides the heals from healer. Then when he has 75% health the rogue and pallys come in. Then the casters come in at 70%. Then thats how we are a great guild at owning herod XD go WaSaBi!

Along with that info, Herod is great to farm. Level 60 rogues can easily farm him and if you have enchanting as one of yourr profs you're guaranteed a small radiant shard everytime. That's 4-5 gold on my server.

Things to keep in mind when fighting Herod.
- Make sure your tank has aggro before his first whirlwind, guarantees that after the whirlwind he will stay on the tank, not charge towards your DPS or healers.
- When he is in whirlwind mode he is immune to everything so just back away and stop doing anything, as its pointless anyways.
- Watch out for the enrage at 30%, he can drop a tank like a matchstick, especially if you don't back away when he is whirlwinding.
Other then that pretty easy fight.

This badboy can cause a lot of problems to a group if they aren't prepared. Make sure your everyone in your group is full on hp and mana before you attack. Also, make sure that the warrior gets in at least 3 sunders in, in order to maintain aggro. Otherwise, Herod will chase after your healers and spellcasters and it will be over very quickly. Also, beware of his "Blades of Light!" and back off when he does it. Otherwise, you will be destroyed in seconds.

Spoiler Alert:
A fun little fact - if you zone into the Caverns of Time instance of Old Hillsbrads you can find little Herod (a level 5 child) as "Herod the Bully" in South Shore. He's pathing with Helcular (the later darkmage who Horde gets to unleash on Southshore) and Kel'Thuzad (still of the Kirin Tor) up and down the road.

He's so fucking cool! He kicks everybody's ass the lvl 60s have trouble with him alone if you ask me he's the ultimate boss (if you don't think about Ragnaros, Onyxia and more). He's the coolest he attacks my hunter al the time when he whirwinds because all g2 stay back when he does that or else your dead but hunter is ranged so they keep shooting and that will cause you get aggro ^^ and he will charge you and kill you.

this fight is very easy, as a hunter i mark him then just after the tank gets his 2nd hit, i cast aimed shot. then i hit rapied fire(+40% attk speed for 15sec) and unload my dps.(pet runs in with hunter) u can still unleash your dps when he is spinning just remember to pull you pet back. also as a hunter using the -5% hit chance sting is somewhat important incase herod gets loss on the healers, gives em a chance to get a free miss. all-in-all this is a VERY easy boss with no adds and awsome drops.

Fight is an easy one if you gotr the right group...
Priest
Warrior
Mage
Warlock
(anyone that'll help preferebly DPS)
I am a shadow priest but i have my healing gear which adds about 250 to my healing so I was good overall and the warrior was pretty smart he knew to keep agro and to back up when Herod did his whirlwind. and the warlock made a soulstone incase someone was to die and did some nice crits on Herod. When the level 30(non-elites) came out the mage just A.O.E'd them and I(the priest) would heal all of the guys that were on him when they were out of the A.O.E range. This fight didn't last long we got Scarlet Leggings, a Lockbox, money, and mageweave. Off the level 30'z we got (Strong Lockbox, money, and a crappy ring). That was my best run if I was running for items but me being a clothie I didn't have much use for any of the items that he droped except the mageweave and money. I got about 4G off the run but i ran it with 4 people. So if you 5 man SM-Arm, witch in most cases is un-needed unless you truly suck. But me and a 70 ran through SM-Arm. 17 times and we got the full scarlet set +2 extra pairs of gloves, + 1 extra set of leggings, and a lot of silk cloth.(Was not useful cuz i was 36 and a 300 tailor so i was "out leveled" of silk cloth) TONS of sucky green items that are good to "DE" when you run the instance a lot! Hope this helped! :D

As a Rogue, your "Evasion" ability has a nearly 100% chance of eluding his Whirlwind. If you feel the need to lay some extra (or finishing) DPS, this is the time.

Farmable for a Rogue as early as Level 49! Here's what you do:
1. Make sure you have exceptional gear. Blazewind Breastplate, Forest Stalker Wrist, Gloves of Holy Might, Thrashblade, Shadowblade, Fiery on your weapons, etc. Basically, if you are pwning Battleground at your level, then you have the gear for this job. If you're not, then you don't.
2. Stock up on Mageweave Bandages, Combat Healing Potion, and Swiftthistle Tea.
3. Possess Talisman of Arathor and Cold Eye Basilisk.
4. Have Wound Poison IV on your weapons.
5. Your Talent Build must be geared towards the Assassination tree. You must have Cold Blood and Seal Fate 5x, and Vigor. You must also have Improved Expose Armor 2x. You must also have Evisecerate 3x.
So sneak past all the mobs in SM: Armory. Unlock Herod's door, preferrably with lockpick to level your lockpick ability up.
Before you confront Herod, remember that your stunlock will not work on him. This includes Gouge, Kidney Shot and Blind. So if you are a dagger rogue who relies on stunlock/backstab, that will not work for this fight. Replace your main-hand with something else. I prefer Thrash Blade for the job.
Open with Garrote, Cold Eye Basilisk, Sinister Strike 3x.. by now, all your energy should be gone. Use a Swiftthistle tea to bring your energy back up. Continue with SS until you get 5 combo points, and then use Expose Armor. Continue with SS, but before you can get 5 combo points Herod will unleash his first Whirlwind.
He is immune to all attacks except range when he uses Whirlwind, so take this time to Sprint away and bandage yourself. It is helpful to keybind a "target self" and "Mageweave bandage" to quickly bandage yourself. For me, I bind "target self" to keypad "D" and "Mageweave bandage" to "F" so it is simple.
After his Whirlwind is done, he will rush at you. Since you have Improved Expose Armor, he is vulnerable to your attacks for a few more seconds. Quickly build up your combo points to 5, use Cold Blood, and Eviscerate him. This should take a healthy 1600hp off of him.
After you deal this damage, he will either Whirlwind or call on "Light Give me Strength". As soon as you hear his "Light Give me Strength" voice, enable Dodge. His very first attack after calling on will be devastating, so having your Dodge up will negate his attack. Continue with SS-->Eviscerate, running away when he is using Whirlwind and attacking him with range. Since you are still freshly bandaged, the only way for you to heal yourself is with a potion. Use your pot when you have halfway health, and use your Talisman of Arathor after Dodge fades from you. Continue attacking him until he dies, quickly loot his corpse for your goods, and then use Stealth to avoid his SM lackeys.
As a note, since your Rogue relies on procs and chances to deal his damage (especially with Thrash blade) victory is never certain. Furthermore, you can enable Dodge and Herod will still have a chance of dealing a huge amount of damage to you after his "Light Give me Strength." This is still a hard fight, and I recommend soloing Herod only if you're an Enchanter who is looking to make some cash with Small Radiant Shard but you don't want to level up. Even at higher levels, this is still the template on how to defeat Herod as a Rogue.

As i was killing Herod i found that he was using "bladestorm" 4 time every quarter his health went so if you have a paladin when he is near 1 quarter of his health use Hammer Of Justice then he doesn't do it.

Herod
Hunters: After tank(s) agro use concussion shot and then any over time shots before auto shooting, having a cat would be nice. When Herod is whirl winding back off and set a freezing trap right outside of his melee range. After everyone’s health up go full throttle.
Mage: After tank(s) agro use frost nova then use most damaging spells until frost nova wears off, then you use ice moves which slow him down. When he’s whirl winding use AOE spells (blizzard would be the best.) When mobs come out while fighting or after Herod’s dead use frost nova then blizzard.
Priest: After tank(s) agro use all over time curses/spells then completely focus on healing. If someone’s going to die or you’re being aggroed by mobs sent out use psychic scream.
Rogue: when tanks go to agro stealth behind Herod and use garrote/sap which ever is better use to your party. Try and use a lot of over time spells until he enrages at 50% health. Then use high power attacks and assassinations.
Shaman: Before battle enchant everyone’s weapons to the enchantment that suites them best. Shadow behind rogues and warriors so after they agro you can use totems (fire and stoneskin/earth) then back off and use long range spells until you can’t anymore. Once he’s whirl winding use long range spells once again.
Druid: Before tanks attack use entangling roots and while their attacking heal them but focus more on long range attacks unless you’re the healer. If you’re not the healer at 50% health when he enrages shape shift into you’re most powerful form and go merciless on him.
Warlock: After tank(s) agro send out pet with hunter and use all over time spells, curses and stuns (use stuns after everyone’s slowdowns wear off) then use all powerful attacks. If running low on health or mana use drains.
Warrior: Use demoralizing shout disarm and make sure you’re in berserker stance at the beginning. Use as much high power attacks as possible then once he’s almost dead use execute. Change stances if needed to and use as much things as possible to stop him from using whirlwind. At start run in to agro.
Paladin: Run in and use consecration (if protection spec use all blessings/spells and if your retribution use your seal with blessing of might.) With warrior try and stop him from using whirlwind. Once low in health use shields and heal and re buff.
Party: All back off in group in a corner if you have a hunter when he is whirl winding so he’ll definitely fall into the hunters trap. Pay a little attention to the priest to so if he’s running low someone can switch off with him.

This is my comment from thott, although Herod is "easy", when you're with a group of silly people, he can hurt, so here is my strat:
When you first reach Herods room, make sure everyone is full HP/Mana, buff everyone too.
Healers need to stay very alert, this guy truly hits like a truck.
Have the tank jump down to Herod and let him engage the fight, other DPS classes shouldn't start doing the damage right away, let the Warrior (or any other "tank") do some threat Damage and then start doing the damage. This is because Herod really hits heavy, Rogues should stay alert and don't grab his aggro, because the healer will quickly run out of mana for you.
Herod only has 2 abilities, one of them is really important and you should ALWAYS alert your group about it:
- When he yells "Blades of Light!" EVERYONE stop doing damage to him and back off from his range, he will engage in a spinning move that will eat your HP like a fat kid on pie. Take advantage of this though, he will stop for a few seconds for this attack and as long you are away from him, you can use bandages and save the healer some mana.
His other ability ( you can't really do anything about it) is when he yells "Light give me strength!" he will enrage (something like Blood Fury) and do even more damage, he will only use this later in the fight so healer pay extra attention to this.
---
Tips:
Stay in the ground, don't use the stairs, healers might miss the healing spells because you are running around like an idiot.
Hunters are the only ones that can damage Herod when he does his spinning move, Arcane shot won't work but the normal Auto shoot will, so use that.
Don't forget to call your pets when he starts his spinning move.
Make sure you have potions ready, early healers might run out of mana and that's never a good thing, use bandages when he does his spinning attack as well.
---
Herod has over 10k of HP, and he his partially immune to fire/frost/etc. It will be a long fight.
When you finally down him, loot him immediately and roll fast, the room will get flooded by lvl 20 peasants who only have 100 hp, but if your group struggled against Herod, they can sometimes hurt.
Either way they are quite easy to kill, just concentrate your group in one place and use a AoE. They will die fast enough. Check every body because one of them usually has a Scarlet Tabard, for all you fashion freaks out there :).
Hope this helps.

for those of you who like a little background from the real world, this guy is named after Herod the Roman, who the Romans appointed leader of Judaea, Idumea and Environs--if he could conquer it!
In 37 B.C. he attacked Jerusalem and after his victory, the golden eagle of Rome was raised above the temple gate.

The Armor has strength which = very bad for hunters.
The Weapon adds no stats, and in pvp if you go to wing clip and it procs you're !@#$ed :D

I did a run with my 39 Retribution Pally and a 63 warrior friend to try and get the axe, I have the rest of the Scarlet set so I want this to complete it.
We got to Herod and I wanted to see if I could solo him, so I gave it a go. Used Retribution Aura and Blessing of might, 1H weapon (Ardent Custodian) + Shield; this gives me 2767 health and 1500 mana. I attacked using a Judgement of the crusader and Blessing of Command, which I judged and refreshed as often as possible.
I backed off and healed or bandaged myself everytime he did whirlwind and used mana pot twice, also had to use Lay on Hands, but I got him down completely on my own with about 10% health and no mana left. Just enough time to bandage and mana pot for the trainee's.
I may be extremely well geared but he was easier than I thought he would be considering he has 11000 health, just back off when he whirlwinds and use the opportunty to heal and bandage.
He dropped the shoulder for about the 10th time, I've seen the legs about 4 or 5 times and the helm a few times too. I think it knows I want the axe!

Heh, I really cannot understand why some people think he is hard.
I killed him with...
- 35 Paladin (myself)
- 36 Rogue
- 34 Druid (not even Restoration Specced)
- 35 Warrior
- 34 Hunter
With ease.
Oh well, I got the Shoulders. Two levels and I'm up and rolling.
And on a sidenote, this Instance gives really good EXP. If you take the Library and Armoury, it should be enough to get you a half level at around 35 (if your group is close to your level, that is).
I guess I will need to get a 60 to run me through it if I seriously want that axe. Drop chances are simply too low for it to pay off when in a normal group.
Oh, and when fighting him, Paladins, have Righteous Fury ON! You are the ones best geared for taking the damage here, actually.
Healers and casters, stay in the back.
Oh, and note when you've killed him, "Trainees" will attack you. Not Elite, if I remember correctly, so should be easy enough.

After watching a video of a 57 Resto Druid Soloing I decide to try. Im 52 full feral spec atm. It was very easy. Get him on the main floor and STAY away whenever he does the spinning move with his blades. If your a druid or a pally you have a decent amount of time to heal. (Only had to heal once myself) Any strong melee specced class 50+ should be able to kill him fine. If your wear cloth I'd stay away (unless your a frost mage) ;o)
Oh yeah...there is a wall on the main floor (straight ahead if when your coming in the room). Afer you kill him run over to the wall...the adds wont see you and will run down on the main floor. Just AOE spam and ur done. Each one only has like 100hp.

I'm a 41 feral druid. I just needed Herod to finish my quest and couldn't find a group. So I stealthed in up to his door. killed the mob across from the door and the pat. (I died twice cause they ran and aggroed other groups but I got those guys down.) After I rezed and stealthed back to his door, I stood as far away from the door as I could to change form to open the door, than changed back to Cat, and stealthed in to his room. I soloed him. When he went into his spinny thing, "blades of light" I backed off and hit my Instant HoT and Regrowth, (a 2 sec cast, its a HoT with some upfront heal) and switched back into bear to comtinue the fight. I had to use a mana pot, and I had to inervate myself but I got him. I had time to switch to Cat form and stealth while the little guys ran in. I went to the point farthest from them, changed back to druid form, they didn't aggro. So I set up hurricane, and it killed a bunch of them before they canceled my channeling, I switched back to bear and killed the rest easily. They really don't have hardly any HP. Too bad he doesn't drop anything for druids or i might just farm him. At least until the druid nerf patch comes out. /cry

The only real dangerous thing is when he does his whirlwind move. He'll scream, "Blades of Light!". You then have about half a second to move away from him, about from the middle of the room to the stair. If you have a melee pet or minion, make sure to get it out of the way as well. Make sure the tank gets Herod focused on him, or your healer will probably get owned with a few swings of his Ravager axe.
I believe Herod is immune to magic spells while he is spinning in whirlwind, but not immune to normal ranged attacks. (As a hunter, I was able to shoot him with auto-shoot but my Arcane Shot always fails.)
After he dies, around 20 or so Scarlet Trainees come in and rush to attack. Just use any AoE spell (Explosive trap the entrance of the room when Herod is almost dead), and they die within seconds. They have a really, really small chance to drop the Scarlet Tabard, which is a cool tabard that is red in color.

Very easy now, Soloed him/arms on my 38 prot pally. Seal of light/judge light up the whole time. Save mana for heals while he's doing his aoe, still has a lot of hp so save that mana for heals & don't unload dps spells.

This guy is easy to solo (for wars I think), just run away when he uses "blades of light", bandage, repeat, repeat, done. When the lvl 30 mobs come use retaliation (one or two hit for each and they're done).

I noticed that a 60 pally in my guild uses Ravager to AE when we are goin through the Suppresion room in Black wing lair. So, I decided to go get one for myself so far i have killed him 15 times and it hasnt dropped yet. I am a 60 pally and go in the Armory kill the first two guards and if i am careful and not aggro any mobs on the way can make it directly to him. I kill him pretty quick and if i crit enough a push my dps i dont need to heal. this can all be done in a matter of minutes... so wish me luck as i go try to get it. =)

ok this fight was actually a bit harder than i thought. Me (38 war) and a lvl 60 warlock with VW used like 2 minutes to beat him. He resisted ALL of my charge/intercepts and i had to run around in the room all the time to catch up with him attacking the warlock and VW
He has an ability called Rushing Charge he does several times when he switches aggro. He was immune to most of the warlocks spells (thus the fight taking such a long time) and he has loads of armor! His spinning hitted me once for 400 dmg when he was in enrage! We finally got him (got the shoulders) without big problems :)..
15 secs after, around 25-30 lvl 30s (non elite) come running down the stairs. First half of them aggroed me and the other half aggroed the warlock.. Suddenly all of them were on me (no idea why they switched aggro), and then i popped a retaliation! BANG, ALL of them dead in 1 second - they only seem to have around 150 hp :D Pretty cool to watch, and nice XP :D

About every third cast that I put on Herod, he would resist one which was probably the highest ratio I'd seen yet with my 40 mage. However, we had a couple good tanks so I was able to get a lot of shots off anyways. He only came for me once, but the design of the room is nice because it allowed me to run a circuit and train him back to the tanks very easily.

1st: he seems to be immune to shadow magic so warlocks and shadow priests... :(
2nd: when he uses Blades of Light he is immune to any magic so don't cast spells at him when he's using them.
3d: when he dies he summons a bunch of lvl 30 Trainees, not elite. (maybe 10 of them). Easy to kill with spells like Blizzard, Rain of Fire or Hellfire.

When he uses his whirlwind attack just move to the other side of the room and you should only be hit with one-two hits of it.
As the other poster said be ready with some sort of AE ability after he dies. When I saw it I thought I was dead (the other paladin dropped in the middle of the fight). Luckily I had a
Goblin Fishing Pole
that made short work of it :)

Last weekend a fellow guild member, my boyfriend, and I trioed the armory. We were a 38 druid, 38 paladin, and 37 mage. We wiped once and it took about 2 hours.
We went with in with another druid and warrior at first, but then the druid purposely ran ahead and aggroed a group of mobs when we were fighting so we wiped. He and his warrior friend then logged out. So we decided to try to do it on our own. Took some careful planning, but we did it relatively easily. The mage died once, but we rezed him and all was well. The best thing about it was when we beat Herod we got the Ravager for the paladin :D
I've fought him four times now, 3 times scarlet leggings dropped, and just once the ravager.

get back whenever he starts spinning because he does insane damage to everyone by him when he spins, he'll kill you in a matter of seconds. I think he's immune to spells while spinning too. once he's dead a bunch of wimps come out and you can either aoe them or not it doesn't matter they only have like 10 health and do like 5 damage.

Both at 38, A paladin friend of mine and I duo'd Herod with no problems, Takes far longer to take out the patrols and other mobs on the way there when fighting 3 at a time then to take out this guy. Basically, I charge in and if he doesn't get stunned the paladin drops in and uses consecration, then judgements seal of light onto herod and puts seal of wisdom on himself. Just hitting hit with regular melee hits until he starts to spin, back off wait for him to charge, then start the chain over again. Paladin never ran out of mana and we got the helmet to drop.

went in with 42 warrior def stance, 39 warrior dmg stance, 37 rogue, 39 mage, 41 druid.
Cleaned Armory in 15 mins.
At Herod just avoid his cleave he will start with "Blades of Light!".
Go outside the cleave range, cuz he doesnt move in that time...
Attack him when he isnt whirling around. Tooks us 2 mins. Healer-dudu only needed to heal the 42 tanking warrior 3-4 times.
Rogues kidney shot and warriors mace talent save alot of Heal mana ;) .

This guy is a viable target for gold farming.
If you are level 60, you can run through the entire SM Armory aggro'ing only 2 mobs.
I've done this twice before, the 2 mobs are the very first ones.
After that, go through the courtyard up the middle and go through.
There are 3 potentially sticky areas.
1. Patrols, if you're not sure, aggro them in between groups and kill them.
2. There's an area near the end where there's 2 on the left, 2 on the right, and not enough space through the middle. But if you go the left, over the cannons and various doodads, you can avoid aggro.
3. The last hallway, you have to be very careful not the aggro the groups or the patrol there.
From zoning in to getting to Herod shouldn't take you more than 3-4 minutes.
Once you kill him, he has a 100% chance of dropping a blue item that will net you a small radiant shard.
Then you have to kill the adds and run out, which takes another 4 minutes or so.
Leave instance, and find someone who will group with you just to reset instance.
~10 minutes for a small radiant shard.

We killed Herod twice, the first time dropping the Ravager and the shoulders on the second kill. I was told it was a rare drop on Ravager, but I did not realize how rare till I checked the website. Herod is actually pretty easy.
Well ... almost.
He has relatively low HP for a mob of his level, but he has the ability to make an entire party go squish ...
You start to wear his HP down pretty fast, but once he hits ~60% health, he starts immunizing against a pretty whole lot of spells and abilities, and repeatedly uses the proc his axe (Ravager) has. He starts spinning, dealing 800-1000 Area damage every 5 seconds or so. When I (as a 37 Pala) did this with 3 Rogues and a Hunter, the Hunter pet-tanked and stayed in ranged combat, and all rogues went tank.
It starts to get pretty hectic if you are the only healer, since all people down there suddenly drop from 100 % to ... 30 ?
8 heals later, he stops spinning ... well ... mostly because he is pretty much ... you know ... dead ... that tends to make people stop most of their actions ^_^
Well, I broke into a happy dance since I got the Raging Berserker Helm. Yay for the 1% crit increase :)
Well, then, if it's your first time doing Herod, prepare for a heart attack. I almost got one, since I was pretty much out of mana (AND had used both Lay on Hands and a mana potion) ...
Two of the rogues died, as they had only 15% health AND were pretty much deadlagged by that :)
Well, in the end I ressed them and we proceeded to trounce the evil Scarlet Commander and the High Inquisitor
Rowena of Mal'Ganis, European ones ^^

i've killed herod about 3 times, beeing a warlock 41 and 42
First two times it was very easy.
But the third one was quite difficult. We were a mage, druid , priest and me, warlock 42 by that time. First time we tried to tank with the druid in bear mode, while the priest healed him and the mage and me nuked him. It was a total disaster, coz we the casters lost half of our mana while he was in "blades of light" being inmune. Second time it was pretty similar.
But the third time we killed him very easy and fastly using my void and healing him with the priest while the mage nuked him and i cursed, dotted, inmolated, shadowbolted, searingpained, and everything you can find on your spellbook.
What i don't understand is that with a SINGLE shadowbolt i always take the aggro of the mobs. But i throwed at herod everything i had and he didn't come to kill me, strange...

this guy is like really easy to solo for a decent(blue/green mixed) geared lvl druid(lvl 50 could be fine as well)
just prowl through the whole instance... get to him, before attacking use enrage(to get a small starting rage pool, improved enrage is very helpful cause it generates 30 rage instead of 20)
just start spamming maul, if his ravager procs... don't worry, if you're in bear form it only hits for 160 damage(how weak ^^)
if he's enraged for about 230 damage
when he dies, loot, get into caster form, barkskin, hurricane, done...

This is a ranged fight. A group of friends and I have killed him succesfully 2 of 3 times. 40 warrior, 37 shaman, 37 rogue, 36 warlock, and 34 shaman. The first time we all rushed him, and he AE'd us for up to 1000 damage a shot. In other words, we didnt stand a chance. At the time, we were also all 2 levels lower. You will need a lot of ranged DPS. We had none - a warlock and the rogue using ranged to do damage while the warrior tanked is about all we had. Because of our low DPS both shamans took turns healing, leaving a mana stream totem down to recover mana. On our first win, both shamans were OOM (though both still had a potion they could use for more, it just wasn't needed) On our second attempt, each shaman was full by the time the previous shaman ran out of Mana, we coulda fought him for hours!
Once Herod dies, the fun begins, res any dead quickly, and make sure you have some mana.
I dont want to ruin the suprise, as this next part isnt a big challenge although it scared me to death the first time. Here's my hint: Warlocks have a very nice AE that will trivialize anything that comes after Herod ^^

I ran through the armory a few times with the help of a level 68 friend and some other 30ish people. I got great experience and drops, and its fun. If you can get a high level, its amazing xp. But onto the point. As a hunter when the 30's came down after killing him, i layed down an explosive trap and did a 100+ on all of them. I think they have low hp because once the trap was set off they all died. A great way to get rid of them, or just use any AoE spell

Actually it's quite simple to kill him solo - just stay away from him when he starts twisting, and heal/bandage while he doesn't attack you. I've been doing this with my pally since level 57, great way to farm small radiants which are ~3-6g/shard, and with one run taking not more than 10 minutes, you can get up to
5 shards per hour
. Too bad it prolly won't work anymore after next patch.

Just solo'd this guy as a level 45 orc rogue, using Vanquishers Sword and Sword of Omen, both with fiery enchants. I stealthed through the whole Armoury. The first time i tried this I died, leaving Herod with only 2,000 HP left. My second attempt, i started out with a Garrote, and by spamming Sinister Strike until I had 5 CP, and then casuing Rupture to him. Whenever i got low on HP, i used a Major Healing Potion. When Herod uses 'Blades of Light' and begins to spin round, move away and bandage yourself to full HP, for example I moved to the top of the stairs and used Heavy Runecloth Bandage. After he died, I looted Herods Shoulder, and vanished because i didn't want to fight the mob of trainee's :)
My guild was as shocked as i was. But this shows it was possible.

Just soloed armory / Herod as a 44 hunter. It was quite a challenge but very do-able. The grind into boss chambers took just over an hour, and you can't skip any mobs except maybe out in the first courtyard. Killing Protectors and Myrmidons first will let pet live long enough to finish off Guardsmen and Defenders, respectively. The Protectors especially are nasty as they heal themselves. Pet did die 3-4 times, usually only when there were 3 groups of lvl 38 elites or if I had a runner I couldn't get a concussion shot off on.
Herod himself was a quick fight that I only barely squeezed my way out of. I used greater agility and greater intellect pots which put my ranged attack power at 720 and mana pool right around 3000. The mana was critical because I had to heal my pet 6-8 times. Sent pet in first, then kept serpent stinged, used Bestial Wrath then Intimidation, and kept nailing him from range while my poor broken tooth cat took a beating. Finally at around 2%, I was out of mana and my pet died, leaving me to deliver the last 2 blows to take him down. Then quickly bandaged, took mana pot, shadowformed and waited for the zerg. Used Volley to take all but a few of the students out, then finished them off and ended fight with 50% health, dead pet, and Raging Berserker's Helm which will probably just go in my bank...

Nice cash'n'trash, plenty of greens for my wife's enchanter to burn and silk out the wazoo....171 pieces between library and gy last time. You have tailor alts/guildies, get yer butt over there. And it is a challenge solo, espcially if you pull a group w/ 3 priests all healing one another....let a runner get away and hope you have retaliation up.

In my honest opinion Herod is probably the easiest boss(could you call him a boss?) I have ever fought. My group was so godlike it wasn't even funny. It was me (lvl 37 hunter) a lvl 37 priest, a lvl 43 warrior, a lvl 36 warrior, and a lvl 39 shaman. When we got the The Hall of Champions our plan didnt really go according to. The main plan was for the warriors and shaman to rush herod while I supplied ranged fire and my pet fought with them, the priest was on heal and buff duty along with some occasional shadow magic shots. The real event actually happened when I pulled an aimed shot at Herod and he rushed at me. It wasnt too bad ,but i'm not much of a meleer. So i wing clipped him backed up and he eventually focussed on the warriors and shaman. I did an assortment of shots(in order, aimed, serpent sting, arcane shot) I also had rapid fire on. So after we killed him we rolled on the loot(ravager) and the warrior got it. We beat up the trainees and went too the cathedral, done deal

If you cannot get through here with a couple 40+'s then that is sad. I did it in a group of 5. It was a 31 Orc Shaman, 34 Tauren Shaman (Me), 34 Troll Priest, 36 Troll Warrior, and a 39 Tauren Druid. It was really easy. And we only had 1 death throughout the Armory, Library, and Graveyard. That death was our warrior when we were up against Herod. Our priest was out of mana, I think, and I was also out. And the 31 Shaman didn't do good healing (Even though she was off-healer)because of her level.

I solo him regularly for the small radiants I can DE from his drops.
I'm a lvl 49 combat rogue engineer with about 2400HP unbuffed. I can stealth to him in about two minutes. I'm fairly twinked so I may have that slight advantage.
Pickpocket mobs along the way to pick up pots to use during the fight.
I open up with garrote -> SS -> SS -> SS then Rupture before he starts his first whirlwind.
Get out of range (you should barely have taken dmg at this point. When he's through repeat the process.
Between each whirlwind I use either evasion, gnomish shrink ray, my PvP bubble trinket or Adrenaline Rush. Never at the same time if possible. He gets enraged after about his 3rd whirlwind. Thats a good time to use evasion...
Riposte is a lifesaver, use it every time its up, bandage during his whirlwind if necessary.
Loot, stealth and wait for his pack o wimps to show up. One easy throw dynamite will drop them all if you aggro them into a nice pile.
Rinse repeat for easy small radiants...

If you are a hunter, place an explosive trap quickly after Herod dies. It will kill all of the adds gloriously. They will barely survive the initial explosion with a rank 1 trap and the dot will finish them pretty fast.
