Abilities Earned While Leveling from 50 to 60 in Shadowlands
The Level Squish necessitated a reassigning of the Levels at which each Ability is learned. Inevitably some of those fell beyond the maximum Level for Battle for Azeroth. These are the Abilities that Demon Hunters will gain access to as they level through Shadowlands.
Shadowlands Abilities Earned Between 50 and 60

- level 58 - When Fiery Brand expires on your primary target, you gain a shield that absorbs up damage for 15 sec, based on your damage dealt to them while Fiery Brand was active.

Blizzard's Demon Hunter Patch Notes
Blizzard has released Patch Notes including the class changes for Shadowlands. The following is the class change summary for Demon Hunters.
New Talent: Unbound Chaos (replaces Fel Mastery) – Unbound Chaos has been redesigned – Now causes your next Immolation Aura cast to increase the damage of your next Fel Rush by 300%. Lasts 20 seconds.
Glaive Tempest is now affected by Mastery: Demonic Presence, and its damage has been reduced by 15%.

General
Newly created Demon Hunters now begin at level 8.
Immolation Aura is no longer a Talent for Havoc and is learned by all Demon Hunters through their initial questing experience or at level 10.
Havoc
New Passive: Unending Hatred – Increases maximum Fury to 120.
Blur now reduces all damage taken by 20% for 10 seconds (was 35%).
Metamorphosis no longer provides 20% Leech. Soul Rending (Talent) will now return 25% Leech to Metamorphosis.
Blade Dance and Death Sweep now capped at 5 targets.
The following Talents have been adjusted:
New Talent: Burning Hatred – Immolation Aura generates an additional 60 Fury over 12 seconds.
New Talent: Unbound Chaos (replaces Fel Mastery) – Activating Immolation Aura will cause your inner demon to slam into nearby enemies at the end of your next Fel Rush, dealing Chaos damage.
New Talent: Glaive Tempest – Launch two demonic glaives in a whirlwind of energy, causing Chaos damage over 3 seconds to 5 nearby enemies.
Insatiable Hunger now causes Demon’s Bite to deal 20% more damage and generates 5 to 10 additional Fury.
Cycle of Hatred now reduces the cooldown of Eye Beam by 3 seconds when Chaos Strike refunds Fury (was Metamorphosis).
Soul Rending Leech increased by 5% (was 10%) and gain an additional 25% Leech while Metamorphosis is active (was 10%).
Netherwalk cooldown is now 3 minutes (was 2 minutes).
Dark Slash has been renamed to Essence Break – Slash all enemies in front of you for Chaos damage, and increase the damage your Chaos Strike and Blade Dance deal to them by 40% for 8 seconds.
Demonic now causes you to enter demon form for 6 seconds when using Eye Beam (was 8 seconds).
Nemesis has been removed.
Fel Barrage now capped at 8 targets.
Vengeance
Vengeance Demon Hunters now use Fury as a resource instead of Pain.
Demonic Wards increase to Stamina and Armor have been moved into a new Passive: Thick Skin which increases Stamina by 65% and Armor by 100%.
Soul Cleave replaces Chaos Strike, Shear replaces Demon's Bite and Infernal Strike replaces Fel Rush when selecting the Vengeance specialization.
Fel Devastation is no longer a Talent and will be learned by all Vengeance Demon Hunters at level 11. Additionally, Fel Devastation now costs 50 Fury.
Soul Cleave now heals you for an additional amount for each Soul Fragment consumed.
Soul Cleave now capped at 5 targets.
The following Talents have been adjusted:
New Talent: Infernal Armor (replaces Flame Crash) – Immolation Aura increases your Armor by 20% and causes melee attackers to suffer Fire damage.
New Talent: Ruinous Bulwark (replaces Void Reaver) – Fel Devastation heals for an additional 15%, and 50% of its overhealing is converted into an absorb shield for 10 seconds.
New Talent: Bulk Extraction (replaces Soul Barrier) – Demolish the spirit of all around you, dealing Fire damage to nearby enemies and extracting a soul fragment from the 5 closest enemies, drawing them to you for immediate consumption.
New Talent: Demonic – Fel Devastation causes you to enter demon form for 6 seconds after it finishes dealing damage.
Abyssal Strike now causes Infernal Strike to create a Sigil of Flame when you land and its cooldown is reduced by 8 seconds.
Agonizing Flames no longer increases the damage of Immolation Aura. It now increases its duration by 50%.
Feast of Souls healing increased by 25%.
Charred Flesh has been redesigned – Immolation Aura damage now increases the duration of your Fiery Brand by 0.5 seconds.

Havoc has also had a few changes to its talent tree to address Nemesis. Nemesis was intended to be a strong single target sustained option, but it hasn’t proven popular among players. We’re reshuffling the tree a bit, bringing a buffed-up version of Fel Barrage down to the level 50 row and adding a new AoE Fury spender, Glaive Tempest, to the level 30 row.
This creates more interesting choices in the rows on the complexity and payoff you want in your damage rotation. Please give them a try and let us know what you think!

The fact that we have to choose a talent just to make immolation aura generate fury (IE, make it good) just seems kind of silly. I hope they reconsider and make it generate fury as baseline for havoc. :(

On the abilities Chaos Nova, Fel Rush, and Vengeful Retreat only the upgraded ranks say Havoc in the ability descriptions while the base abilities say that they require Demon Hunter. Can anyone confirm if the baseline abilities are usable by Vengeance?

Honestly, I think I expected too much from Blizzard. Shadowlands looks really good, don't get me wrong, but it just doesnt seem like these changes are going to be enough. I loved playing Demon Hunter in Legion, and they feel so bland in BFA. These changes are only affecting the class very little. Remember Bloodlet? Damn I miss that combo.

May as well just take warrior abilities paint them green and replace the first word with fel, and that is the state of the identity of demon hunters in this new xpac.
Not to mention they look as though their damage will be underwhelming now with the longer cooldowns and lower overall damage.

To be honest I'm kinda peeved they opted to give tank DH's one of their least picked talent as a baseline freebie. we've all literally been near 100% picking spirit bomb. we're all still going to. if they wanted to give us more options, they could've freed us up from always going spirit bomb instead of giving us diet eye beam

I find Demon Hunter to be such a bizarre outlier under this rediscovered sense of Class Identity. When you look at how little the two specs have in common it almost seems completely antithetical to the whole class design philosophy going into Shadowlands. When you have a dps spec with a better defensive kit than its tank counterpart, and said tank's biggest weakness happens to be its defensive kit, it's time to really take a long hard look at the spec. Havoc has always been in a better place in my opinion so I'm going to share some thoughts on Vengeance here.
- Darkness becomes baseline for both specs. In a world where all pre-Legion tanks have several iconic tools and abilities brought back (Anti-Magic Zone, Berserk, Shattering Throw, Auras, Celestial Brew which is essentially old school Guard, etc) we see Vengeance fall even further down the competitive ladder. This would not only bolster an already light defensive kit but give solid defensive group utility which Vengeance lacks
Lesser Soul Frags are a core mechanic for Vengeance yet there are so few ways to interact with them. To address this problem I propose the following:
- Spirit Bomb becomes baseline but you receive no healing from the Soul Frags used, this will only be used to convert Frags to damage and apply Frailty debuff.
- Feast of Souls (talent) becomes baseline for Soul Cleave. You receive the base healing amount + the HoT from Feast of Souls (think like a weaker Legion Frenzied Regen)
- Soul Barrier also becomes baseline but with a 90 sec CD. This will give DH tanks a third way to spend Soul Frags AND another meaningful defensive CD. In it's place in the talent tree use Hour of Reaping (azerite trait). This trait was one of the most engaging aspects of Vengeance play in M+ in BFA and also the only proc based gameplay the spec has had access to. Not that every spec needs procs but it felt much more engaging with something else to work towards. It also feels like a strong contender against Demonic which Soul Barrier alone may not end up being.
These changes offer three unique ways to use your soul frags. Soul Cleave with a base heal + HoT, Spirit Bomb for big AoE dmg, and Soul Barrier to convert Soul Frags to shields and because they all use the same resource we would always be making meaningful moment to moment choices very reminiscent of how Prot Pally feels on Alpha atm with Holy Power
- Ruinous Bulwark talent is counter-intuitive and should be redesigned. It is a defensive buff to a defensive ability that punishes you for using Fel Dev defensively. You are forced to use Fel Dev at high or max health in order to benefit from the absorb and if you don't overheal you gain zero benefit from the talent. IMO it should be 50% of total healing that is converted to a shield, not overhealing.
- Sigil of Chains should be made baseline. Sigils are a staple of the Vengeance toolkit and it is the go to pick for 90% of content. In it's place I would recommend Cycle of Binding (azerite trait). Then redesigning Concentrated Sigils to increase the radius of your sigils instead of targeting them at player location as that can be done with macros. Then you would have: larger radius w/ 2 sec increased duration VS faster activation w/ 20% total CD reduction VS 2 sec CD reduction for all sigils every every time an enemy is affected by one. This would make the row much more situational with potentially clear pics for M+ VS Raids but still make you think about the choice you're making
If I was in charge of Vengeance for a day these are some of the changes I would try out, as it stands Vengeance has no particular strength that sets them apart from other tanks and because of the massive changes and unpruning done to the other 5 tank specs Vengeance is going to really struggle to compete in higher end content. I know someone might say that Legendaries and Soulbinds will complete the picture, but the spec is just incomplete and it has been since the beginning of BFA and we shouldn't have to wait for our specs to be redesigned to just feel good to play. Now I know how Shadow Priests have felt for the last two years...
- Another honorable mention is the very underwhelming covenant choices. There are at least two that currently reside in the garbage on alpha, Night Fae and Necrolord. Neither one of these offer any value to Vengeance in any meaningful content and outside of one in pvp (The Hunt) neither of them really have anything to offer Havoc either. Kyrian's Elysian Decree really feels at home in the Vengeance toolkit and receives benefits from certain talents and even synergizes well with a certain build. It seems to be the only one that is going to feel good in ALL content. I know a lot of people are excited about Sinful Brand (Venthyr), but from a defensive stand point it's basically a second Fiery Brand, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it seems to be the Meta component that has everyone exited. Other than turning Meta into a DPS CD as well, it offers no additional defensive capability. Vengeance is already so sturdy in Demon form that Sinful Brand is only going to put you in a degenerate situation where you'll be using your only big defensive CD on cooldown to maximize your damage. I know that is the meta for M+ (no pun intended) but Vengeance is not the tank to be throwing defensive cds away for extra dmg. I can't believe I'm saying this but as covenant abilities currently stand, in the case of Vengeance I would rather have Azerite traits and Essences... god help us all.

Well boys, they just did to DH what they did to Shadow Priests in Cata. My wife played as a SP for 6 years as a healer and after they nerf them stopped healing altogether to this day. The powers that be are just bending to all the whiners that have been complaing about DHs being op in PvP. I have played a DH since it's inception and found it to be a very comfortable and stable toon. With the changes they've made, they might as well have changed the name from DH to strawberry shortcake.
