Seal of Command is pretty much a requirement for any pvp or leveling paladin. The proc will greatly increase your dps, as well as the judgement, versus the seal of righteousness proc.
This skill is also conviently located on the talent board, requiring a mere 10 points in retribution, so interspeccing is not a problem with this skill.

I am trying to decide whether to put the rest of my protection paladin's talent points to Retribution or Holy. Does Seal of Command have better overall DPS than Seal of Righteousness when wearing a _one-handed_ weapon? Not considering threat generation here, just pure damage perspective. I have improved Hammer of Justice so I could combo Hammer of Justice with Judgement of Command quite often.
Is Seal of Command affected by bonus spell damage effects? Seems like much of protection paladin's end game gear is more focused on spell damage than strenght.

I wouldn't recommend SoR over SoC for anything.
If you take the time to look at the numbers SoC usually wins out unless
you're looking for that constant pop of holy damage for tanking.
As a holy paladin I plan on taking SoC mainly for the judgement alone, it's very good.
And if SoR happens to out do SoC at any point it's not going to be by a whole lot.
SoC gets the constant 20% for the swing and 43% for the Judgement (doubled if the target is stunned or incapacitated)
SoC crits (though magical) are considered melee crits and thus are double damage as well as the Judgement Crit.
SoR for your avg 1h weapon gets less spell damage bonus than
SoC because SoC gets a constant 20% whereas according to numbers on the WoW forums SoR gets 9.2% per 1.0 weapon speed. So for a 2.0 speed weapon SoC gets 20%, SoR gets 18.4%. The bonus spell damage starts to close in and beat it out as the weapon gets slower, however, as the weapon gets slower the base damage of the SoC gets higher and the procs per swing gets higher as well (SoC proc rate is based on speed of the weapon).
Judgements really are on contest the SoC only gets 43% from Spell Damage but it's doubled if the target is stunned or incapacitated, for a PVE situation most likely, if considering ONLY the judgements (and not the damage from the use of the seal) then seal of rigtheousness would probably win out (as the target is rarely stunnable or incap-able in a raid situation). However in a pvp situation, burst damage is key to finishing off healers etc. and stunned and incap-ed targets are all over the place. If you're grouping w/ a rogue ... hello JoC every 8 seconds.
You name it, black out procs, impact procs, mace stuns, warstomp, the list goes on of stuns alone.
Seal of Command is better for leveling than SoR simply because 90% of the time I kill things faster with it (the weapons do exist you don't need end game gear to pull of SoC). There may be a couple fights in 50 that SoC doesn't proc near the beginning or crit etc and the fight ends 2x or more as fast as one would with SoR. SoC is a staple for any paladin that wants to kill mobs every so often, it scales enough w/ spell damage to be nice and the judgment is exellent.

Sorry but you're wrong, SoR is better than Soc, first some facts:
SoC gains more dps per itemvalue if you collect spelldamage than it gets per itemvalue if you collect attackpower gear
warning, heavy mathcrafting
one point of attackpower costs 0.5, one point of spelldamage costs 0.85.
Seal of command will proc 7 times a minute and each proc will deal 70% of a regular whiteswing, a whiteswing gets your ap dividied by 14 multiplied by your weaponspeed. so Soc gets 0.7*7*x/(14*60) ~ 0.006x dps per ap, where x is your weaponspeed.
and since one attackpower only costs half of an itemvalue point, the dps per itemvalue is 0.7*7*x/(14*60*0.5) ~ 0.011x
For spelldamage it's much easier, you get 7 procs per minute, each proc gets 0.2 of your spelldamage or 0.2*7 = 1.4 of your spelldamage per minute or 1.4/60 = 0.02 of your spelldamage per second. since each point of spelldamage costs 0.85 the dps per itemvalue for sd is 1.4/60/0.85 = 0.027
conclusion: in order for ap to outperform spelldamage you need a weaponspeed greater than 2.5, not completely impossible
but, Crusaders strike gains more dps/itemvalue from spelldamage than it gains from ap:
attackpower: 3.2/(14*10*0.5) (normalised weaponspeed for strikes/(attackpower needed for one dps * cooldown * cost for one ap)
spelldamage: 0.4/(10*0.85) (40% of your spelldamage / (cooldown * cost of one spelldamage)
and JoC and consecration (which both gets a really nice bonus from spelldamage) only gains for spelldamage, further increasing the dps from spelldamage over ap
this leads to SoC versus SoR:
I've already proven(unless someone prove me wrong) that SoC gains 0.02 of your spelldamage per second and SoR gains 0.09 for a one-hander and 0.11 for a two-hander, clearly superior.
JoC versus JoR:
JoC gains 42% of your spelldamage (it doesn't get the double versus stunned targets, unless someone can prove me wrong with screenshots)
JoR gains 73% of your spelldamage.
Final conclusion: spelldamage is better than ap for damage with SoC, but if you use spelldamage SoR will outdamage SoC
but I do agree that SoC has better burst so it might be more viable in pvp, but for pve, SoR is far superior

I've found that SoC is a very useful tool when you are constantly being purged/dispelled or your mana is low (which ret. paladins can have a problem with). Spamming rank 1 of this spell is the best way to sustain dps in these situations as it still procs for 70% weapon dmg for a cost of ~65 mana vs. 260 mana for decent dmg from SoR. I think SoC scores points for that.

so it means that basically SoC is better paladins with high ap (70% to weapon damage) and SoR is for paladins with high spell damage bonuses since it affects the seal AND judgment for SoR whereas the SoC only has its judgement affected..
SoR is better for one handed weapons and SoC is most probably better with 2 handed weapons..
But i think SoR gets more bonuses from judgment of the Crusader since it increases holy damage for both the seal and judgment whereas SoC only gets its judgment affected..
so its pretty much both has its uses in different situations right?
Well im pretty much using my talents in protection and my secondary tree is holy, so im going for SoR for having a one handed weapon (and a shield) with better spell damage..
btw, im pretty new to WoW so i hope i didnt just make a fool of myself. :) any corrections will b rili appreciated!!

What is the difference between rank 1 Seal of Command and rank 6?
The mana cost is higher, and the judgment hits harder... is there anything else?

Seal of Command does holy damage, which means you do get damage bonus from crusader judgments, both for the seal and judgment. If you are already going ret, there is no reason for not picking this up, just 1 talent point anyway.
The difference between the ranks is strictly the judgment damage, so keep rank 1 hotkeyed if you know you are not going to toss the judgment to save you some mana, or when dealing with shamans who spams purge.

I'm a protection paladin w/ points in ret for the eye for an eye, imp ret aura, and the all needed 5% parry, and this spell is fun in groups when you know you have aggro and feel like havin fun. In Shadow labs i used it over half the time after repecced, and i never lost aggro(when i did botanica afterwards we had two arcane/fire mages ><). So when you know how much aggro your group can dish out, little extra 1H dps wouldn't hurt :D.

i heard somewhere that this is effected by crit rating, not spell crit. seems fishy to me..

Just have a simple question to ask here. Does the Critical chance, and + to damage from each proc goes as follows.
swing:
Critical Chance effected by Melee Critical Chance stat
Bonus Damage effected by Spell Damage stat
Then when judged:
Critical Chance effected by Spell Critical Chance stat
Bonus Damage effected by Spell Damage stat
Just need to know if I am wrong here or not.

Based on what I read and noticed when using the spell.
This only procs
1) a few times a minute
2) you need a very slow weapon to make nice crits
3) you need to actually hit the target.
That's a lot of plusses to make this seal worth it, if you don't do any of the 3, it'll be just useless.
Sometimes I spend fighting a mob for over a minute because i simply miss the target like 4 times in a row (dodge, parry,...).
and it refuses to trigger or able to crit.
However, very rarely you only have to hit a mob twice to kill it. Along with the trigger, from the in Protection tree Talent, Reckoning, Seal of Command can give add huge amount of damage output.
Critical hit + Seal of Command trigger + Reckoning is excellent.
Around 50 to 60 I collected the full Imperial Plate set. None of the items have a + critical or chance to hit bonus, which makes critting quite hard, and thus Seal Of Command rather useless.
Maybe someone could recommend some decent/not that-hard-to-get gear for making the 50-60 a bit easier for fellow paladins. :}

The critical chance on this depends on melee crit chance, and not spell crit chance.
This spell does NOT stack with bonus spell damage.
Every Retribution paladin should use this, but for those with 1 handed weapon, they should use SoR.
>"And I THINK that when you're higher level, theres a bigger chance for proccing.
I'm not 100% sure.."<

well you see after doing the math SoC wins intill you have over SoR in till you get 1250 spell damg
or 1000 damg with 5 points in Improved SoR
all this was working off the damg if the target was stunned

Sadly, SoC takes hasted bonuses into account, and you will only ever get 7 ppm.

I have a big, slow weapon, and run around with an enhacement shaman. This seal is godly w/that combo. I have had WF double crit + SoC crit + CS crit for a total of 8k+ before. I regularly have white crit + SoC + CS combos for 3-4k+. It's a little unpredictable, but can make you wet your pants every now and then w/big numbers.
