Even with an unobtainable intellect stat of 600, this is only a measly 300 armor, which is barely significant. The saving grace is that it only costs one talent point, which makes it a decent place to put a prerequisite point into in order to get to the higher arcane tiers.

This talent is not for pve, however...
If you do an Arcane Fortitude/Arcane Mind/Frost Warding build you could stand to have tons of armor in pvp.
Make thoes rogues work for that kill, if they can even get close enough rofl!

The problem with this talent is that it is very weak, even including that it's passive an cheap at 1 point.
Most mages will know something they'd rather want to spend this on in the tree.
However, if you PvP a lot, and you actually find that you have that 1 point spare, an extra 150-250 armor can't hurt tbh. At worst it doesn't help at all. ;)

Just wanted to point out for those trying to gauge the usefulness of this ability: that a stat of 600 for Intellect isn't too difficult to reach
for mages with the Arcane Mind talent

Currently have 658 Intellect on my
gnome
mage with Arcane Intellect buff active (+5% Intellect Racial, and I also have +15% Intellect from 5/5 Arcane Mind talent); In terms of gear, I only have: 3 PvP Purples, some blues, and even some greens.
With Blessing of Kings, I can reach 724 Intellect with my current gear.

Being buffed in 2.4 to 100% of intel as armor. if your a pvp based player and putting points into arcane then its definately worth it, especially considering that physical damage classes season 3 / vins armor has armor mitigation on it.

how is 600 more armor going to help a mage unless its a "TANKING MAGE" who needs armor. armor or not, those rogues and warriors are still going to kill u quick in PvP cuz of us mages being "clothies" (that is if the mage doesnt no how to kite). this talent would be awesome if somehow u could wearing mail or leather =P ... and if ur talking abt the cheap cost of just 1 talent point then arcane impact would be better. if ur done wid AI then put it in wand specialization or something. +armor in talents for a mage is just retarted.

Just a correction on just how much DR you get from this skill. According to the DR formula posted on the
official forums
(which I have tested, and appears to be correct), and the talent now giving 100% int to armor:
Assume 600 intellect:
500 base armor = 4.91% AF DR Bonus
1000 base armor = 4.51% AF DR Bonus
1500 base armor = 4.15% AF DR Bonus
Base armor is the listed armor before arcane fortitude's bonus is added.
The formula states that for a character above level 59 %DR is calculated by: %DR = Armor / (Armor + AF), where AF = 85*ArmorLevel+400, and ArmorLevel = Level + 4.5*(Level-59).
For a level 70 character:
AF = 85*(70+4.5*(70-59))+400 = 10557.5
So to calculate the bonus %DR arcane fortitude provides for any given base armor and any given int:
AF %DR Bonus = ( ( BaseArmor + Int ) / ( BaseArmor + Int + 10557.5 ) - ( BaseArmor / ( BaseArmor + 10557.5 ) ) * 100

I would argue that the point of this talent is not as a stand alone, or as some people have implied "to tank," but to be used in conjunction with talents like Prismatic Cloak and Improved Blink to give arcane builds some additional survivability. A mage with both Prismatic Cloak and Arcane Fortitude will see an approximate 9% reduction in physical damage for three talent points. If one were crazy enough to take Frost Warding, you'd push the reduction to roughly 11% for five talent points.
Although this won't give you that much more "time" in combat, maybe a few seconds, this is also a two-way street. Mages can do a lot of additional damage in a few additional seconds. Moreover, these talents become more effective for trash type mobs, or when dealing with greens while grinding.

i totally agree with you guys here, 200-300 armor is worthless :/ they should make increases your mana by 50% of your armor more like that

I wouldn't say it's totally useless. It's very small, yes, but arcane mages drop like stones so they can take all the help they can get.

Hmm... this talent seems a LITTLE weak imo (I don't have a mage of my own so i don't really know). It should be more like 100% of your intellect, or maybe even 5% of your max mana...
I don't know, just some ideas. After all, its a level 20 talent and those talents are usually very strong or useful.
I really think the Arcane tree needs a buff already... it seems so boring somehow.
Just wondering, does ANYONE ever spec in the Prismatic Cloak talent? It seems so incredibly weak, since mages are so fragile, 4% less damage taken at the expense of 2 talentpoints is just so utterly bad.
Combine them or something:
Arcane Fortitude:
Increases your armor by an amount equal to 100% of your intellect and reduces all damage taken by 5%.
There, the Arcane tree seems alot better already :)

I've been comparing this on/off and the result is that it ain't making a difference. Very useless talent, unless you have 1000 intellect points.

I've just been thinking of some ideas that i just wanna post somewhere, so here they are:
(Just a few ideas for us Arcane Magi)
Presence of Mind shud make Arcane Missiles instant, shooting all of em in an instant (also making a cool animation of a massive swarm of missiles!) If not INSTANT at least make it really fast channeled, like 0.5 or 1 sec.
Just so that Arcane Magi don't always have to take Pyroblast.
Remove Prismatic Cloak with:
Prismatic Field (or w/e name)
Increases the range of your Arcane spells by 10/20% and reduces all damage taken by 2%/4%.
They don't even have to change the icon if they feel lazy :)
NOW i wud take that talent!
AND remove Arcane Fortitude with:
either
Arcane Lightning
? Mana
Instant - 1.5 second cast
30 seconds cooldown (Or w/e)
Blasts 3 targets with mystic lightning, dealing XXX-XXX damage to each. ?The target(s) hit are also suffering from mental shocks causing them to lose XXX mana over 12 seconds.?
Works like Multi-shot but reaches the enemy instantly. Animation something like a regular lightning but in purple colour. Forked Lightning (from WC3), but from the Arcane family.
The minor manaleech is just something that can be added if the spell is not adding something to the Mage's reportoir (spelling?). Ofc doesn't have to be a manaleech.
Shud be nice to couple with Arcane Explosion, but is more powerful and only for 3 targets. Shud be alot more efficient than it tho.

Telepathy/Telekinesis

Anywhere from instant to 3.0 sec cast
~5 min cd
Totally confuses the target's mind, making it wander around for 6 secs / Pushes the target away by 10 yards and immobilizes the target for 5 secs. In addition the target gets weakened, causing your next spell done to that target to: (The ideas i have)
*steal mana equal to 75% of your intellect. (Telepathy only)
*being unable to be fully resisted. (A bit imba maybe)(Telepathy only)
*deal additional damage up to 50% of your intellect (or just plainly deal 10% more damage)
Any damage breaks the confuse/immobilize effect.
Just some unpolished idea i came up with. Definitely something like this belongs to the Arcane world. Some kind of CC combined with some benefit for the mage only. That was my idea in short.

Instant
Regenerates mana equal to 5-10% of your intellect every 5 seconds to all nearby party members.
Combine them however u want blizz, just do SOMETHING! Replace that boring "Arcane Fortitude" with some cool level 20 ability plz! Pyro is great and so is Icy Veins... MAKE US ARCANE ONES HAPPIER!

I agree with Bubka, we magi do need better specs in our arcane spec cause that arcane fort isnt much, yes may be enough for a few seconds more liveing but still.., and isnt the Brilliance Aura from WC3? I belive jaina was able to cast it at a certiant lvl, but anyway, arcane tree does need work

I first have to agree with all of the above. Arcane Fortitude is more or less worthless. Mobs shouldn't ever come close enough to actually deal heavy damage, at least, which your health shouldn't be able to bear (frost mages even have frost barrier) and the reduction in damage even with 300 extra armor isn't that great (ofc, its the first 1000 armor that really makes a difference, but that should be accomplshed at higher lvls anyway, so perhaps at low lvls this is good enough) but at lvl 70, prismatic cloak would be better (even with a single point put into it), simply because its reduces damage more, and its is applied to all damage (spell, melee, ranged).
That said, both talents still pretty much suck. If u need an extra talent point to get to the top/bottom of the arcane talent tree, use it on wand specialization. In instances you run low on mana a few times and 13 or 25% extra wand damage do you much better than damage reduction.
