Great for keeping rogues from re-stealthing, since it lasts longer then deep wounds and rend's damage has increased.

Completely wrong topic, but the way I build up weapon skill is I go to a lowbie place like WC or RFK and just kill mobs in there while spamming hamstring. Since the mobs are such low level you'll be critting like crazy therefore giving you insane rage. The Global cooldown keeps you from getting low rage.

What a junk ability. As previous poster said, great for keeping rogues out. But i just use deep wounds. Use this as additional (hardly) damage if you consider it a feasible use of your precious rage.

Rend is also useful for activating Blood Frenzy, which would increase all melee damage done to the target by 4%.

I found this skill completely useless as both an Arms warrior And a Fury warrior. If I wanted to keep druids and rogues from restealthing, I have deep wounds for that. The skill also does not scale well

BUT IF I USE MY MOUSE TO TURN HOW DO I CLICK ON REND?
Use it to keep a rogue from stealthing or someone from CCing you and bandaging. That's about the extent of its usefulness.
I don't know if mangle affects this, but even if it did it'd still be lackluster.

I'm axe spec, so my high crit rate (just about 40%) procs deep wounds enough, even against targets with high resilience. I've hardly felt the need to drop the all-important berserker stance simply to rend.

Rend is also useful for leaving someone a present right before they kill you.

I find the easiest way to level up your weapon skill is on the Servent of Alijistar or something in the Blasted lands, south of Nethergarde keep. They hit for around 20, and do not die. They turn into a ghost at about 3% and just stand there.

lol guys, Rend is useful for keeping a dot on a foe. Most useful for keeping rogues and cat druids from stealthing. It doesn't need to do a lot of damage. That's what Deep Wounds are for.

i suggest using rend on druid s in bear form,prot wars and pally s for obvious reasons and no there is nothing as efective for 10 rage in thet situation

This is handy for going against rogues, that's about it. The damage is useless, even if you get the highest rank and you max out Improved Rend. It's good against rogues is because when the rend procs it pulls a rogue out of vanish or stealth. Great for keeping rogues from stealthing on you.

I find this is better for earlier parts of the game and gets worse later on. It's good for chipping away at enemy health while they try to run away, as most run away at a low amount of health that the remaining rend effect can actually kill them. Mostly on Defias and Murlocks. As it progresses, the enemies get strong enough to barely be fazed by a Rend, and some are immune because they don't bleed. By level 60, even a maxed-out Rend ability is negligible, and the rage is better saved or spend on a decent Sunder Armor or something. A decent investment for an early warrior.

completely useless, the damage is so insignificant its not worth the money to buy. I put 3 points into improved rend which increases it, but i never use it, i'd rather spend the rage on an extra heroic strike.

I used to use rend all the time and then I decided to take a look at the damge it does, what a stupid ability it is a waste of rage, they gotta change this

This ability has it's own little use.
As someone above me said, it's good against rogues who likes to stealth.
Well, as for the Rogue part, it only lasts 15 seconds, but, hope the Rogue Vanishes.
It's weak, yes, but it isn't dodged, parried, missed, resisted, once you get the hit in, then the damage is sure to be dealt.
And for the mobs who runs? Don't waste this on them, use Hamstring and strike them down yourself, thats pretty much more reliable.

this is an amazing attack if you compare it to heroic strike. sure it does about 30 less damage in the higher lvls (heroic strike does 208 while rend does 184 plus wepon damage) but its instant and it costs 5 less rage. if you took 5 rage away from heroic strike at lvl 70 it would do about 139 damage while rend still uses 10 rage it does at least 50 more damage plus its instant so this ability is actually very rage efficient.

I assume in the formula for Rend, listed above, that wb = min damage, WB = max damage, WS = Weapon Speed, and AP = Attack Power.
Formula for Rend (rank 2) = list above
Formula for HS (rank 2) = 21 + AP/14 + (WB + wb)/2 (average weapon damage)
Using my lvl 14 Warrior, I have 130 AP. I then pick 3 different lvl 13 weapons - all greens - which are Goblin Screwdriver (dagger), Northern Shortsword (1H sword), and Merc Sword (2H sword).
Then, plugging the formula and the values above into a spreadsheet, I find that:
DAMAGE DAMAGE/Rage Rend vs. HS
WEAPON HS Rend HS Rend Efficiency
Dagger 33.5 33.3 2.23 3.33 149%
1H Sword 41.0 36.4 2.73 3.64 133%
2H Sword 51.0 39.7 3.40 3.97 117%
Using HS (Rank 6) and Rend (Rank 5) - you get both at lvl 40 - along with lvl 42 green weapons and a lvl 42 Warrior with 450 AP, I get more dramatic results, with Rend being roughly 200% efficient (twice as efficient) over Heroic Strike.
Bottom line: Rend is more efficient than HS in terms of damage/rage which is exactly what you would expect from a DoT vs. immediate damage. That said, this is only true if the fight lasts long enough for all of the Rend damage to land. Rend is also good against armored mobs (or PvP players) since it is unmitigated by armor while HS is reduced. Neither Rend nor HS generate rage, but HS generates more threat. The faster the weapon speed and the greater your AP, the better Rend does over HS.
Thus, Rend is not useless, nor does it replace HS since there is no point to spamming the same DoT and it does not generate as much threat. Using a Rend up front in the start of a fight is an effective use of the 10 rage you can get from a Charge. With Improved Rage, the efficiency goes up even more. And, of course, it does wreck havoc with rogues....
I may have screwed up the math, but assuming I have the formulas right, them's the results....

As you will get a ton of rage in pvp thanks to bloodfury or what's it called, charge, damage taking and damage dealing. Together with Deep Wound this makes an useful DoT. I would throw it in, though I wouldn't get imp. rend.

Yes, the damage on Rend is lame... but it's good against rogues and if you're an arms warrior, you can throw it in yo get your Blood Frenzy activated without scoring a critical hit.
Useful together with Deep Wound, too.

rend is not useless i know it doesnt do good damage but at least it does damage!
i a 46 warrior and i was fighting a 49 hunter i was wining then he drank a potion and killed me with 2% health before releasing spirit i saw him die from rend!
that was so awesome! i really wanted to see his face when he died.

Rend is not a bad talent to spend 3 points in, but it is compared to what you can get as something else for example in the fury tree.

From a PvP perspective, it's good to buy the highest rank of rend so it will last longer when applied. But it's not good to put anything into improved rend when you can just get something more useful. You'd think it would be good for fighting 3+ monsters, because you can apply it to all of them, but if you're by yourself, good luck fighting 3 monsters. And if you aren't by yourself, then it's almost useless since you'll probably have someone with you doing a lot more damage than you, and they'll be needing you to keep the aggro instead of screwin' around. And if you're just with a healer, then it's still useless, because by the time you swing rend on all of them, you might already have 1 monster to half health.

Most ppl say rend sucks and in some cases it does, but get the imp. rend talent and it wont suck so much. This actually does more dmg than a 1h weap HS if u calculate the dmg reduction from armor, assuming the rend lasts its full duration. and it costs less rage too.

Rend is good in solo PVE terms especially. I have my Rend and Heroic Strike on 3/4 hotkeys.
I just bam them both at the same time. It works well because it is a rage cheap DOT instant with good overall rage/damage efficency.

I used to use it alot, I'm now only 19 and the only use I've found for it, is as a last breathe &*!@#slap. A twink rogue is slicing me up, Hamstring/rend/thunderclap/demo shout if I can. Gimping his AP/attack speed/movement speed and preventing him stealthing.
PvE? Next to useless unless its an elite or boss with enough HP to survive long enough for the DoT.
I had hoped, in some naive way that the ImpRend doing +75% bleed dmg would apply to the initial strike as well. Almost doubling the damage would of been nice. But its a lie :(

Rend is good if you have a Charge/Rend/Berserk-Stance Macro.
Especially if you don't have Tactical Mastery and you just waste the rage anyway.
The extra damage is neglegable but if you are in an AV etc if will really piss that rogue off that he can't just pop back into stealth after whipping your ass.
Also they can't bandage if they for instance get charged, rended, then CC you.
Plus the macro for it will add that 'ittle bit of free damage which isn't bad for a MS Warrior.
