Small eggs are used for holiday recipies one of which, the Gingerbread Cookies, is used for a quest. They always sky-rocket in price around the holidays so if you want to make a killing off the lazy level 60s farm em and put 5 up for 1g.
Edit 2013/12/15: My, my. Has it really been 7 years? Well this is pretty terrible advice now, isn't it. Level 90's are now the lazies you want to take advantage of, and 1g? Shoot, put 5 up for 20.
Edit 2023/12/19: Y'all, I have no idea what these things go for these days. What could a small egg cost, Michael? 10g?

I can confirm that Darkshore is a great place to grind for Small Eggs.
I was in Darkshore this night for about an hour and got 100 Small Eggs. Just run around and killi all the Moonkins above the town. I couldn't find any cave but there were plenty outside the small caves and in the area.
Last year I remember killing birds in Moonbrock, Westfall, on the graveyard. About 10 sec respawn and a lot of birds but I couldn't find any birds there this year so I guess Blizzard removed them from the game.

For you Hordies out their, small eggs can be Farmed in Mulgore From Plainstriders and Swoops. Swoops have the highest drop rating For eggs. I barely even got one From a plainstrider. Swoops recommended.

I've found recently that farming in Mulgore is difficult because the Swoops spawn slowly (and this is mostly what everyone is looking for/killing) and the Plainstriders have a next-to-nothing drop rate. There are, however, Dire Condors in the northern and southern parts of Redridge Mountains (twink alliance territory) - I picked up around 12 in about 10 minutes.

South of MoonBrook is an excellent farming spot for these eggs.
It is quite easy to get to for Horde, and even easier to get to for alliance.
Horde: Simply catch the zep to Grom'gol, ride/walk/swim up the coast until you reach Westfall, easy!

For Horde,
Forget everywhere else and go to Eversong Woods. I was there for 30 minutes and collected 100 eggs. I had a 100% drop rate on the Dragonhawks. Always one...sometimes 2.
For the Horde!

The best place to farm these is in Eversong Woods (If you're a high level alliance you can easily get there by just going through EPL).
The Dragonhawks spawn all over the zone and have a 99% chance to drop 1, they quite frequently drop 2 a lot. I farmed 110 in roughly a half hour.
A good time to sell these would be right when Winter Veil starts, as they will be wanted for the Christmas recipes.

I agree with everyone above who have said Eversong Woods. Crazy drop rate, they drop 2-3 each time mostly, and they can be easily 1-shotted with an AoE if you're powerful enough.
Also, they're selling for 5g in my server, so it's time to beat their prices!!

Does anybody know what food group Small Eggs fall into for feeding Hunter pets? I've tried feeding them to a Raptor (since they're eggs, I figured they would be classified as "Meat"), but he wouldn't eat them.

I love opportunist scalpers, 2g for small eggs, just because they're use on a christmas quest!

Glad to see the christmas spirit so alive and well and thriving in the auction houses.
It must be hard for the horde to get enough eggs, if they have to hunt the few Swoops flying around in Mulgore to extinction.
Clearly only an effortless quest for the alliance.

Sounds like there's a lot of fools being easily parted with their money on some of the realms.
On Hellscream I've been selling the cookies already made, often with milk for 50 silver.

The best place to farm these BY FAR is Moonbrook, Westfall at the graveyard, 2 Fleshrippers spawn every 10 seconds and half of them have eggs. Also got like 3 lowbie green items in about 5 minutes, kinda odd. The only hard part is spacing out their corpses.
Ended up getting about 120 eggs in 15 minutes

For those who think that charging a large sum of money for something on the AH is somehow wrong, please realize that the only people being taken advantage of are the lazy people.
If you think it's too much to pay, then go out and get them. If you are too lazy to get the eggs, but dont want to pay 3 gold for a stack, then that's your problem, not the seller's.

How ironic that we're celebrating the Tauren legend of rebirth and renewal by hunting these little &*!@ers to extinction so we can make some cookies for a fat old orc.

Just farmed up 80 eggs in 20 minutes on my Orc Hunter in Darkshore, killing Moonkin southeast of Auberdine. The Moonkin are real close together and spawn crazy-fast. Definitely recommended to everyone, including Horde. I saw a few low-level NEs questing, but no one else. Darkshore is pretty quiet, I think (I'm on an old server, as well).
Last year I farmed owls on Teldrassil with my paladin alt, and got a nice stack of gold to buy bags with. The owls there can even drop two eggs at a time, so it might even be faster than Darkshore for a high-level character.
I can't recommend Mulgore; the swoops do drop eggs at a fair rate but they're ridiculously far apart. Not for people wanting to mass-produce, at all.
Happy farming! These cookies make me want to make some real ones...

I was so dissapointed that after BC came out, the Dragonhawks outside of Silvermoon City in the Bloof Elf starting zone have a 150% drop rate for small eggs (1 or 2 per kill). The auction house prices shot down to 50s from 2g but they're slowly rising again. Made about 15g this week from them, so I'm not terribly complaining, but I'd rather be making 25g!

How, may you ask?
Simple. In Teldrasil, there are like, level 3 owls, that drop like, two each. Seriously. Mulgore. Westfall. tsk tsk tsk. Shame on you all.

These are farmed alot for christmas. Before BC, the Moonkin in Darkshore drop them pretty good. If your horde, dragonhawks outside silvermoon may work better.

Westfall
is the best place to farm these, specifically at

. If you run out of birds to kill, kill some Goretusks to get the Fleshrippers to respawn.
Also, if you are looking to level cooking from 1-75, you can farm Small Eggs (Fleshrippers) and Boar Meat(Goretusks) here too.

Dragonhawks in the Eversong Woods have a high chance of dropping Small Eggs (they can drop more than one at a time), and with the arrival of Winter Veil it will not be uncommon to see them being farmed for their eggs.
The quest "Treats for Greatfather Winter" requires you to bring Greatfather Winter 5 Gingerbread Cookies and 1 Ice Cold Milk.
The Gingerbread Cookies (the recipe can be purchased from the Smokywood Pastures vendors and requires no cooking skill to learn) requires 1 Small Egg and 1 Holiday Spice to make at a time (the Holiday Spices are purchased from the Smokywood Pastures vendors) and during The Feast of Winter Veil the price of the Gingerbread Cookies on the Auction House will be quite largely inflated.
If you want to make some quick gold, purchase some Holiday Spices, farm the Dragonhawks for their Small Eggs, make 5 Gingerbread Cookies and sell them at inflated prices. Try selling 5 Gingerbread Cookies for about 3g, you'd be surprised as to how many will sell. This, obviously, will only be successful during the period of time in which the Winter Veil event is running, and is a good way of making money for lower level characters.
If you need to do the quest, instead of buying the 5 Gingerbread Cookies at an inflated price on the Auction House - buy some Holiday Spices, come down to the Eversong Woods and kill a few Dragonhawks until you get 5 Small Eggs, then make the Gingerbread Cookies yourself. This way you would've saved yourself a few gold.
Remember, these guys are very low level (6-8), so whether you're doing the quest at level 10, 30, or 70 you will have no problems killing them, unless you are an Alliance in which you may be killed by members of the Horde dueling outside Silvermoon City or helping their lowbie Blood Elf friends do quests.
With that said, farming the Dragonhawks for their Small Eggs can also be good for leveling cooking as some other low level cooking recipes require Small Eggs to be made, for example, Herb Baked Eggs which, when being made, provide a faster alternative to leveling cooking then other low level cooking recipes.
Also, it does not matter which type of Dragonhawk you farm as I believe the drop rates are relatively the same.
Happy hunting =)!

For those of you who do wish to grind for eggs to sell in the AH.... I found about 45 eggs in two hours running all over Westfall killing Flesh Rippers (minus the beach areas). Good luck! If you can handle lvl 16/17 Greater Flesh Rippers, they are at 60.60... several in one area!

I love farming these in Eversong Woods as a lvl 70 Draenei Priest. Just go around and whack. Watch out for the hordies outside Silvermoon dueling. Right now my drop rate is 160% because they drop them 1-2 at a time, and i've killed a lot. Have fun farming.

Beat the inflated prices at the AH by farming these yourself. It's cheaper AND you can sell the extras for the same exorbitant fees that they command this time of year.
There is a small field in Westfall, just east of Sentinel Hill and North of The Dead Acre where only birds and pigs spawn. They seem to be place holders for each other and constantly spawn. If you kill all the birds and only pigs are left, start killing the pigs and the birds will repop. Much easier than trying to grind Swoops in Mulgore (which seem to go extinct this time of year).
If you are Horde, you can still grind here. If there are Alliance players questing in this area, they will be in the high teens to low twentys and will probably leave a higher level alone. There are more than enough mobs to go around--they continually spawn.
Sorry I do not have more precice coordinates to give for this field. It's the one with all the birds and pigs that's just East of Sentinel Hill and a bit North of the Dead Acre (which also has some birds in and around it--you can make the circuit). You should be able to find it.
Happy Egg Farming

I spent a few hours in Loch Modan (near Farstrider (sp?) Lodge) farming the Mountain Buzzards and got 46 eggs (and 2 greens and a recipe for Succulent Pork Ribs (WTF?) and also mined a lot of tin ore). Noone else was around so I didn't feel bad, but then a lvl 16 hunter showed up to do the lodge quests so I left him to it (as I got back to Thelsamar, a lvl 66 and a lvl 70 were headed back the way I came so I guess it's just going to be camped to a ludicrous level until Winter Veil is over).
I decided to head up to the Blood Elf lands since I read here that the drop rate of eggs from Dragonhawks was 90%+ (Plus I had never been there). So I headed up through EPL, took the road north through the "portal" to the Ghostlands, did some sightseeing and got to Eversong Woods. Once I got to where the dragonhawks spawn I was amazed at the sheer number of them. The place is rife with them! A mage or hunter could clean up here! They're all around level 5 and are one-shot kills for most higher-level characters. And literally every single one I killed dropped 1 or 2 small eggs (plus the usual bird vendor trash). In less than an hour I got over 70 eggs! The only danger is from guards (which can be level 65. One attacked me and I had to smoosh him. A lvl 8 BE PC watched me and even cheered when I won (weird BEs!)) if you get too close to the NPC areas.
(I'm not selling the eggs, just using them to make gingerbread cookies for the Xmas quest for me, my alts and friends. The gouging on the AH is insane! I might spend a silver or two per egg but 30s to 2g per egg is just abusive!)

I farmed 50 small eggs with my level 16 Horde rogue in Darkshore. If you're lucky enough to have a flexible schedule, just do it past midnight when hardly anybody's playing. Much easier. I had 45 eggs before people who cared finally spotted me and started patrolling the moonkin areas, so I just grabbed five more to make it a round number and hearthstoned out. Wonderful fun. :)

One of my highlvled friends requested some small eggs and I went hunting for em.. After I send him some, I checked here and saw they were woth like 10s each, so for a stack 1g.. Then I farmed like 60 or something in a very short time, and put em all on AH .. When I came back from school I had gotten 6g :)
Atm. I have 40g as lvl 16 :b

Hey, Horde players: I ran myself ragged getting from Ogrimmar to Darkshore, for that was supposed to be the closest place to farm small eggs. BUT you can also farm small eggs from the static-charged hyppogryphs just outside Ogrimmar, in Azshara near the secret lab. They have a great drop-rate, and they are RIGHT NEXT DOOR!
