China Gives WoW China Non-Approval
Just as Chinese players expected to finally get Wrath of the Lich King later this month, China's GAPP has given NetEase (China's World of Warcraft operator) its non-approval which means NetEase needs to stop taking in subscriptions and new sign-ups. This is strange as the content was already approved while being run by the former operator The9, which may (or may not?) mean this will be overturned.
Also, this just may have been a problem for Netease as they have been collecting subscription fees for quite some time now, which they weren't supposed to be doing without official GAPP approval. What makes this even stranger is that NetEase hasn't had any communication with the GAPP other than the official press release on the GAPP website.

G4 Interviews Blizzard Team for WoW 5-Year Anniversary Retrospective
World of Warcraft turns five years old on November 23, 2009, and G4 has kicked off the celebration a little early with a series of
retrospective interviews
with some big names at Blizzard.
X-Play host Morgan Webb sat down with Game Director
Tom Chilton
, Lead World Designer
Alex Afrasiabi
and former Game Director
Jeffrey "Tigole" Kaplan
to look back at the history of WoW from day one.
The combined videos total more than 35 minutes in length, so there's a lot to digest in the retrospective. There's nothing particularly noteworthy mentioned in the interviews, but they're certainly worth viewing for fans who are interested in hearing Chilton, Afrasiabi and Kaplan reminisce about WoW's history and explain their duties at Blizzard.
Kaplan's Departure
For those of you who don't know, Kaplan left the WoW team to work on Blizzard's next big MMO project, which he's "super excited about" but couldn't discuss in det

Official Preview of Quel'Delar, the Sister Blade
In anticipation of patch 3.3, Blizzard has posted
the lore
surrounding
Quel'Delar
, the sister blade of
奎尔塞拉
. The articles focuses on the history of the weapon, from its creation at the hands of the Dragon Aspects and night elves to its destruction at the hands of Queen Lana'thel.
Actually, destruction is too harsh a word. Quel'Delar was shattered, and players will be able to embark on an epic quest in patch 3.3 to find the pieces and reforge it. According to the post, "several classes can use Quel'Delar, and the sword can fit several different play styles. For any class that is unable to wield it, however, the Sunreaver blood elves and the Silver Covenant high elves will gladly take this relic of their history in exchange for a usable weapon."

Icecrown Citadel Debuff Will Lower Players' Dodge Chance by 20%
Daelo just
announced
on the official forums that a spell called
Chill of the Throne
will be in effect for
all players in Icecrown Citadel
that "will allow mobs to ignore 20% of the dodge chance of their melee targets."
Why would Blizzard do this? It looks like tank avoidance has grown so high that a hard-hitting melee boss can take down a raid tank in a few hits if the blows aren't avoided. Chill of the Throne will give the dev team "a bit of breathing room" while they look at ways to keep tank avoidance from growing so high in the future. Presumably, the overall damage will be reduced to compensate—meaning the damage will be similar overall, but less spiky.
Just to be clear about what the spell does, I'll use Daelo's example: "if a raid's main tank had 30% dodge normally, in Icecrown Citadel they will effectively have 10%." Chill of the Throne should be up on the PTR soon so you can check out the effects. What are your preliminary thoughts on the spell?

Disenchanting in Dungeons in Patch 3.3
In addition to the
3.3 Dungeon System Preview
Blizzard posted earlier, they've also elaborated a little bit on how the new
disenchanting system
works.
This should alleviate enchanters of having to pick up the items and then later on having everyone roll for them at the end of dungeons. Along with this comes the cross-realm-instance Dungeon System that will have a few restrictions on trading, so the only way to pass out enchanting materials from a Disenchanted item will be through the new roll disenchant system.

3.3 Dungeon System Preview
In the upcoming 3.3 content patch the current
Looking For Group
system is getting a much needed overhaul with many new features and even some rewards (such as a pet) too!
There are some great features planned, such as the ability to join as a group or go solo, Cross-realm instances, and the ability to be teleported to the instances similiar to how it is done in battlegrounds currently. One of the features that looks really promising is the daily random dungeons, which will pick a random dungeon (heroic or normal) and if you defeat the final boss you will receive either 2
Emblem of Frost
on heroic mode or 2
凯旋纹章
on normal mode.
More on the dungeon system after the jump.

Oct 22 #BlizzChat Developer Chat Transcript
It looks like the
#BlizzChat
on Twitter is complete!
Tom Chilton and J. Allen Brack answered about 38 questions over a one hour period. I must admit I was hoping for a bit more in the way of exclusive or new info, but it's still a good primer for people who want info about the upcoming content. More interesting to me was the actual questions that were asked. It's a very interesting cross-section of the WoW community.

Mage, Rogue, Warlock Tier 10 Previews Added to Official Site
Hey everyone! I'm Togikagi, a news reporter for ZAM. I post WoW news on our site, and (just like
fewyn
) Malgayne has been kind enough to let me participate in the Wowhead blog to help provide constant World of Warcraft coverage. For my first post, let's take a look at the upcoming Tier 10 sets.
A couple weeks ago, Blizzard
released
previews of the new Tier 10 models for Death Knights, Druids, Hunters, and Warriors that will be available in patch 3.3. Sneak peeks of the Mage, Rogue and Warlock sets were just added to the
preview page
today, so be sure to check it out to view high-res images of the new armor.

So what do you think of the sets? The Rogue helm is certainly...interesting. It kind of looks like the model wasn't able to avoid a headshot from a Hunter.

A Word About Spoilers
So as the release of 3.3 gets closer and closer, blue poster
Ancilorn
has taken a moment to talk to us about spoilers.
In light of this, I wanted to post our general policy on spoilers.
While we know there are people out there who want to be spoiled, there are also people out there who don't—myself, for instance, and Miyari. We
do
post spoilers on the site sometimes, but we also try and tag them as clearly as we possibly can. If you ever encounter a spoiler that we've posted that is not CLEARLY marked as such, please contact us at feedback@wowhead.com so it can be fixed immediately.

Don't Buy Gold!
Hey everyone! I'm fewyn. Some of you may know me as one of the WoW guys from ZAM or the #wowhead IRC channel, and I'll be cross-posting news from ZAM here to make sure everyone has up to the minute news coverage!
Recently Eyonix made a post stating some reasons why
buying gold is bad
and effects everyone. According to Blizzard, an alarmingly high majority of the gold comes from hacked accounts, and a lot of players these days know at least one person who has been hacked and knows how devastating it can be to a player. A lot of these people have been compromised by either getting keyloggers or using power-leveling services, and then being hacked months later. According to Eyonix, they also make baby murlocs cry.
Blizzard has also created an informational page on this whole subject which you can view
here
.
You can read the original post after the jump.

Hallow's End Achievements Bug
Just picked this up from the official forums. Watch out, all you achievement mavens!
We are currently experiencing an issue with the Hallow's End candy buckets that is affecting the Trick or Treat Achievements for this event. Certain candy buckets in Northrend, once looted, are preventing characters from looting some of the Candy Buckets required for the Trick or Treats of Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor and Outlands. The current way to work around this is to get the candy buckets from Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, and Outland before doing any in Northrend.
Note, doing the Achievements first will prevent some of the Northrend Candy Buckets from being intractable.
We are actively working on a resolution for this and will provide more information when it is available.

Blizzard Releases Tier 10 Set Bonuses on PTR (Updated 10-10!)
Update!
Blizzard has been taking user feedback into consideration and has made changes to some set bonuses. We will stay on top of these updates as they are posted! :)
I'm sure many of you guys noticed Blizzard's
Tier 10 Sneak Peek
that we
blogged about
earlier this afternoon, in which Blizzard showed off some of the new class tier armor designs and proved to us, yet again, that the person responsible for designing leather helms is a nutjob (just kidding!).
They have since elaborated on this information by releasing the Tier 10 set bonuses, which have been released for each class' respective item sets. Blizzard is requesting that users (especially those currently testing on the PTR) provide them with any feedback, as these items will soon be available on the PTR for additional testing. Theorycrafters, hardcore raiders, and casuals alike are all given their chance to get their ideas thrown out there!

Blizzard Wants Feedback on PTR Nameplate Changes (Updated!)
The updates are coming fast and furious, and I'm working on another post for later today, so I'm just going to take a moment to copy/paste this update from our friends at
ZAM.com
:
Those of you on the public test realms may notice that Blizzard has made some changes to the way creature and character nameplates are displayed in World of Warcraft. Zarhym actually
outlined
these updates on the official PTR forum and is asking for feedback. Here's the list of changes straight from the blue post:
The range at which you can see the nameplates is now much longer.
You can no longer see the nameplates through objects which block line of sight.
Instead of the nameplates trying to sort themselves, they just overlap. We think this makes them more useful for very large groups (example: Onyxia whelps).
Have you noticed these changes on the PTR? What do you think of them in PvE and PvP?
Edit:
Some clarification has been added on the official forums:
As long as you are able to peer into the doorway of a room, you will see name

Character Bios Posted on the Official Site
Now this is interesting. It makes sense that these two characters should be the first to appear on any sort of "Character Bios" list, since they're the ones who are going to be helping us bring down Arthas in 3.3—but I sincerely hope they fill these two out with more bios for the other characters.

that will be available to intrepid adventurers upon the release of the Icecrown Citadel raid dungeon. The preview contains all of the sets that we’ve completed so far, and you can click an image to see each set from different angles.
