Rob Pardo Announces His Departure From Blizzard
Rob Pardo, Chief Creative Officer at Blizzard Entertainment, has announced his departure from the company. His previous titles include Executive Vice President of Game Design at Blizzard Entertainment, and prior to that Lead Designer of World of Warcraft.
Every ending is a beginning and today marks a new beginning for me.
After 17 years at Blizzard, with long and careful contemplation, I have made a difficult and bittersweet but ultimately exciting decision to pursue the next chapter in my life and career.

Additional Frostfire Ridge Rare Spawns

In Warlords of Draenor, Frostfire Ridge serves as the starting zone for Horde players once they’ve endured the initial rigors of Tanaan Jungle and survived their first encounter with the Iron Horde. To take you on a journey through Frostfire’s snow-covered wastes and towering volcanoes, we cornered* Associate Game Designer/self-appointed Grand Cheese Taster Zachariah Owens and Game Designer/ Champion of Sarcasm Ryan Shwayder and “convinced” them to divulge some of the zone’s secrets.

Horde Garrison Beta Redesign
If you watch our video from an earlier build, you can clearly see the layout and sheer size of the starter-level Horde Garrison. Now, in build 18505, the Horde Garrison has been reduced in size considerably, although it is still not as tiny as the Alliance starting Garrison. Check out the video, for the old Garrison, and the images for the new one!

You can see the reduced size, as well as the location where the cutscene many of these images were taken from begins!
Guide to PvP Changes in Warlords of Draenor
Warlords of Draenor is introducing a huge amount of PvP changes to the game.
Along with various quality of life changes, we also have:
Gear and Gear Acquisition changes
CC changes,
New Weapon and Armor Models
Skirmishes,
A new PvP island called Ashran
Changes to Flagging
And much more, all laid out here!
Gear and Gear Acquisition Change Blog
There are several changes to gear coming with Warlords of Draenor, as well as changes to how you get gear. Blizzard posted a gearing blog, which you can read by expanding the blue box below, and the key points from within it are as follows:
Skirmishes give rewards
Battleground rewards now come mostly from Strongboxes, you can find the initial data entries for them on
Wowhead's Warlords of Draenor Database
Even if you don't win, you can still get rewards from Strongboxes. Rewards are issued at (for example) 500 points, 1000 points and 1500 points
Strongboxes can contain Honor Points, Conquest Points or Gear
There's now 3 tiers of PvP gear
Starter gear, earned very fast from Strongboxes in BGs
Veteran's gear, from Strongboxes and Honor Points
Gladiator's gear, from Conquest Points
Rated Battlegrounds and Arenas will have the same base Conquest cap
RBG wins will allow you to use a coin for a chance at Conquest gear
Ashran Images, Including Horde and Alliance Bases
We learned yesterday that the Horde and Alliance bases in Warlords of Draenor would be in Ashran, rather than in Karabor and Bloodspire as was previously anticipated. Wowhead made our way to Ashran to take some screenshots of the PvP island, and the Horde and Alliance bases. Ashran is situated off the coast of Tanaan Jungle, accessible by boat. You can observe the peninsula layout of the current Horde and Alliance bases.
It is very obvious from several of the pictures that these zones are unfinished
, but nonetheless an interesting preview.
You can also see Community Manager Lore's post below, explaining the details and thinking behind the Ashran bases, and several tweets aimed at reassuring players.
Warlords Beta is Live, Faction Hubs Move to Ashran
Warlords of Draenor has gone into Closed Beta! Emails began to go out last night, with many players receiving access, and the servers went live early this morning.
Check your inbox for an email, and visit Battle Net account management to see if you have been given Beta access. At this time, be very cautious of phishing emails that ask you to click links - visiting your Battle Net account is the best way to verify any message received is genuine.
And if you don't have access just yet, fear not, there will be additional waves coming. Ensure that you are opted in to Betas by visiting your
Beta Profile Settings
page, and ensuring the relevant boxed are checked, and that your system specifications are up to date.
Warlords Faction Hubs Now In Ashran
Update: 5.42pm Eastern: Community Manager Lore has posted a lengthy explanation on the faction hub move. Read it below.
We're keeping on top of all the Warlords news, and the latest information is that the devs have changed their minds on Faction Capitals in Karabor and Bladespire -- they're now in PvP island Ashran as Lore clarifies.

World of Warcraft 50% off
As gaming companies are wont to do at this time of year, Blizzard has put World of Warcraft on sale - both the Battle Chest which takes users up to Cataclysm, and the Mists of Pandaria expansion pack. You can pick up both at the
Battle Net Store
for $10 a piece, $20 for the pair. The 25% off action figures ends today, so if you want one now's the time!
Free Faction Changes for Horde on Select Realms
Free Faction Changes are on offer for Horde players on selected realms: Bloodscalp, Firetree, and Frostmane. Eligible characters will be able to transfer from Horde to Alliance for approximately** two weeks beginning on June 24. Action Figures 25% off in the Blizzard Gear Store
If you've always wanted some Blizzard Action Figures, now is the time! They are currently
25% off in the Gear Store
, so you can pick up some action figures for as little as $13 plus shipping and handling.
There's no official word from Blizzard on when this sale might end, so if you're in dire need of a Headless Horseman figurine, it may be advisable to act sooner rather than later.
Alas, there is still no Gear Store outside the US, so prepare to pay more for international shipping if it applies.
Game Responsiveness Improved in Warlords
Technical Game Designer Chadd "Celestalon" Nervig posted regarding some notable improvements to game performance coming in Warlords of Draenor. These improvements will mean that the game responds far faster to all player inputs and actions, and will have a good impact on issues like AoE effects not ending where their visual does, boss ability hits, interrupts in PvP, and much more.

Warlords Of Draenor Group Finder UI and Use, Patch 5.4.8 Hotfixes for June 17
Warlords of Draenor Group Finder UI
Warlords of Draenor brings an updated Group Finder to the game, similar to oQueue in Mists of Pandaria, which allows players to find groups for all kinds of content. You can see images of the UI and the like below. We also discovered that being in a group adds a "View Leader's Garrison" option to your character drop-down!
Key points of the group finders function are as follows:
Type of group available is currently Arenas, Legacy Raids, Mists of Pandaria Raids (Level 90 Characters Only), Questing
All of these types of group allow you to specify a location or instance, if applicable.
All these types of group allow you to specify a minimum ilvl, which must be less than or equal to your own or the group cannot be listed.
All these types of group allow you to specify a Voice Chat system, in a field you type a name into, rather than a drop-down.
All these types of group allow you to add a description
You can also list your character, for each different type of content, and search for specific groups or types of group
Check out all our screenshots of the Group Finder in action!

Legendary Cloak Questline: The PvP Portion
Legendary Cloak PvP - Battleground Guide
The most controversial part of the Legendary Cloak quest line is undoubtedly the PvP section, specifically
雄狮怒吼
or
荣耀属于部落
for Horde players. Many players hate it, wish it didn't exist, and many even give up. So, Wowhead wanted to put together a short guide to getting through the PvP portion of the quest line as painlessly as possible. We're not going to go into huge depth with Rated Battleground level tactics, instead this is a survival guide to help with the basics of these two battlegrounds. Do check out our
full Legendary Cloak Guide
for more information.
If you have the resources to do so, getting together nine other players to exchange wins in these battlegrounds in 5v5 Wargames can be an easy way out of participating in Random Battlegrounds.
Temple of Kotmogu
Temple of Kotmogu's main mechanic is holding orbs. There are four orbs, and holding them earns your team victory points, depending on where you are while you're holding them.
Hotfixes to patch 5.4.8: Censers, The Timeless Isle, Fire Watcher's Oath, Warforged Nightmare in PvP
Further Clarification On Fire-Watcher's Oath Bloody Coin Drops
Community Manager Lore has posted on the official forums informing players that the drop chance of Bloody Coins with the Fire-Watcher's Oath active has been increased to 100%
Lore
Thanks for all the feedback on this change. We agree that the chance to earn a Bloody Coin from the Fire-Watcher’s Oath buff felt too low, especially with all the competition for killing blows in Battlegrounds. We’ve just pushed a hotfix that will increase the chance of earning a Bloody Coin from a killing blow while Fire-Watcher’s Oath is active to 100%. Enjoy!
