PvP Season 13 Ending Soon
Season 13 is planned to end on August 27th--while this isn't confirmation of a Patch 5.4 release date, generally the end of a season is close to the start of a new patch.
Many weapons have been brought to bear and countless spells have been cast in this action-packed PvP season—now the time has come for the victors to reap their rewards!
On Tuesday, August 27, the 13th Arena and Rated Battleground Season is scheduled to end. On that day we'll begin an approximately one week process to determine end-of-season reward eligibilities.
Qualified players should note the following in order to ensure you receive your just rewards:
Please refrain from transferring your characters to another realm or faction until after PvP Season 13 has ended.
The awarding of PvP Season 13 titles and mounts will occur approximately two weeks after the season ends.

at the end of the season, and any Honor above 4,000 will be converted to gold at a rate of 35 silver per point. A few other things to keep in mind once the season has ended:

Talk Azeroth - Episode 5 - Cross-Realm Arena, Recent Hotfixes

Patch 5.4 Arena Update: Cross-Realm Arenas, No Premade Teams Needed
As revealed at the

on Friday, some big changes are coming to arenas in 5.4. The team requirement is lifted, and you can compete with cross-realm friends!

<p>Today, competition is limited to the realms within your Battlegroup, and your ability to participate in the Arena system requires having a static team with friends on the same realm. In the upcoming Patch 5.4, we’re building on technological improvements we’ve made over time (such as region-wide matchmaking) to expand the pool of competitors and improve the Arena experience for all World of Warcraft players.</p></br>
<p>One of the first things you’ll notice in Patch 5.4 is that you’ll no longer need to join or create an Arena team to compete. Instead, queuing will work much as it does for Rated Battl

Talk Azeroth - Episode 04 - Arena Tie-Break System
This week Olivia takes a look at the proposed changes to the arena tie-break system. She starts off with a look at where we're at right now, explaining the current system, before running viewers through the new tie-break system, and then dives head-first into the potential issues with the systems old and new, while also examining why Blizzard decided to shift away from the old system in the first place.
The new system, she asserts, provides a fairer look at arena matches, likening them to boxing. The pugilistic metaphor continues as Olivia discusses how the current system is much like demanding a TKO to win any boxing match, while technical victories are completely absent.
However there is a downside, as Olivia explores, with the way the system changes the psychology of the arena, as players might look to play the system rather than play the game.

5.4 PTR: Season 14 3D Weapon Models, Vale of Eternal Blossoms and Orgrimmar Zone Changes

yesterday, the 5.4 PTR is now playable!
One huge change we noticed when logging on the PTR was that Vale of Eternal Blossoms is radically different. It's been infested by the Sha, with most of the zone drastically changed. The capital cities are still functional, but the Golden Lotus hubs appear to be phased out. All of the water is drained and in its place are sha-touched wildlife (that award Golden Lotus rep when killed) and corpses of Golden Lotus NPCs. In addition, there is a new raid portal at the bottom of a lake, with a summoning stone nearby for "Vale Raid."

Wowhead's Patch 5.3 Guide
Patch 5.3 goes live on

While there's no new raid in 5.3, there's plenty to keep you busy--

Patch 5.3: PvP Changes, Additions, Cosmetic Rewards
PvP is getting some radical changes and welcome additions in Patch 5.3! Most importantly, resilience is gone from gear, Season 13 gear won't be eligible for item upgrades, and all gear is being scaled down to ilvl 496 in arenas and battlegrounds. These changes are designed to make PvP a more welcoming experience for new players, instead of being something dreaded for

News Round Up: The Elusive Unborn Val'kyr, PvP Changes in 5.3, Build 16958
In today's news, we have an epic blue post talking about all the PvP changes coming in 5.3--they should encourage more players to try PvP instead of being disheartened by a gear gap. We're also investigating the elusive source of a new battle pet,

, and have a few new spell changes from a tiny 5.3 PTR build this morning.
PvP in 5.3
With the new scaling system in battlegrounds and arenas bringing everything down to ilvl 496, players behind on gear won't be as big of a squishy target for BiS-geared players--all that awesome PvE gear is getting scaled down. This new system also won't encourage players to keep their scaled-down raiding epics and ignore PvP gear, as the extra stats on PvP gear will give a survivability edge.
CM Nakatoir gave a few examples of players that could currently be discouraged by PvP--a progressed

raider, and someone in starter-PvP gear, both wanting to try something new. In both scenarios, they get crushed by an opponent in Tyrannical gear. The raider, while doing decent damage, is squishy and dies a lot, while the person in PvP gear does poor damage and dies easily to someone in full Tyrannical gear.

Ask the Devs—5.3 PTR Edition
Blizzard's latest
Ask the Devs
covers PvP in Patch 5.3. There are some big changes in store, including an ilvl 496 cap in arena and RBGs, as well as resilience removed from all current PvP gear. Players asked questions about the following topics:
PvP Item Level Cap: since all gear will scale down to 496 in arenas and RBGs, players were concerned about PvE trinkets with strong procs, and if the feeling of excitement is now gone when you buy/upgrade gear.
Resilience: Players now get 65% base resilience, and resilience is removed from all current PvP gear. However, PvP resilience remains on heirlooms as well as gems and enchants, but may change in the future. Tank flag carriers now take additional damage in battlegrounds as a way to discourage PvE-geared tank flag carriers.
Rewards and Incentives: Elite gear is now meant to be a vanity reward, similar to the Challenge Mode transmog sets. The team agrees that there's room for more PvP rewards in between, such as a reward for winning 50 Battlegrounds.

PvP Gear in Patch 5.3
Blizzard just posted a highly-anticipated blog on PvP in Patch 5.3. There are several controversial changes:
The biggest change is that all gear in all Battlegrounds and Arenas will be scaled down to ilvl 496, which is the level of Season 13 Conquest Gear.
Resilience will also be removed from all gear, although it will remain on gems and enchantments--to compensate for this, all level 85+ players will have 65% base resilience. PvP Power will remain on all gear.
Since gear above ilvl 496 will be scaled down, Elite items will be primarily cosmetic rewards instead of powerful PvP armor.
Battle Fatigue will increase to make PvP gear superior for healers.
Other changed described during 5.2's PTR are still in place, namely that the 7,250
requirement for weapons will be waived in 5.3, and a catch-up mechanism will be implemented so newer players can earn more points per week. If you've gotten over 25,000
, you can also purchase Tyrannical gear for Honor.
As for the ilvl 496 scaling--many players felt that having multiple tiers of PvP gear in 5.2 led to an uneven playing field. Item Upgrades were removed from PvP gear for this reason, and keeping overpowered ilvl

News Round Up: Updated 5.2 Patch Notes, Preparing for PvP in 5.2, Blizzard Store Sale
Blizzard just posted a very useful PvP blog for 5.2 preparations, reminding users of these important changes:
Rating requirements will be removed from PvP gear.
Malevolent Gladiator’s gear will be available for purchase with Honor Points.
A new tier of Conquest Point gear will be added that becomes available once 27000 Conquest Points have been earned for the season.
Currently, users can choose between upgrading some Malevolent Gladiator items while you still can with Conquest Points, or saving up and buying the 5.2 versions with Honor as soon as the patch hits. Unlike yesterday's blog
covering how Valor Points won't be downgraded to Justice
, Conquest Points will be downgraded to Honor when 5.2 starts.
There's also been some class changes from February 11th, that were posted to the EU forums this morning.

5.2 Single-Player Loot-Grabbing Scenario
On Blizzard's recent
Patch 5.2 Preview
page, they describe a "single-player loot-grabbing scenario," otherwise known as the
Treasure Room
. This was recently viewable in a rough state on the PTR, and while we queued up and tested it out, we weren't quite sure what its purpose was until Blizzard's announcement!
It appears that

is the zone for the single-player scenario and the steps are as follows:
Stage 1 – Speak to Taoshi
You will only have a limited amount of time to gather as much treasure as you can. Speak to Taoshi when you're ready to begin.
Final Stage – Reach the Exit
Grab as much treasure as you can and reach the exit before the timer expires.

Season 13 PvP Gear: 3D Models, Set Bonuses, Items
All Season 13 gear is now purchasable for free on the 5.2 PTR and we've got all of the items in our database! We've made a preview of all the new sets including their 3D models, updated set bonuses, and links to all items organized by type.
As we've noted before, there are different colors for ilvl 493 Alliance and Horde sets, as well as an ilvl 512 Elite set. In contrast to past seasons, S13 Elite armor can be purchased without rating--but only after you've accumulated 27,000
.
