Welcome to the Utility guide for Arena PvP (Player vs Player)! This guide outlines the different types of utility in PvP and how each type is useful. It also offers advice on how to use the different types of utility to your advantage.
Utility in WoW PvP
Before going into individual utility spells, I wish to briefly explain what utility means, and why it is important in World of Warcraft PvP. Utility includes spells that offer some sort of benefit to an entire team of players, rather than only benefiting a single player. These spells usually provide no damage or healing themselves, but assist one or more party members by increasing throughput, avoiding crowd control, and playing around specific enemy mechanics. This guide will cover eight different types of utility spells in PvP and how they are useful in the current meta.
Note: Some of the utility spells I will be covering might belong to more than one category.
Crowd Control Removal
There are a few spells in the game designed to counter or limit crowd control spells cast by the enemy team. Crowd control removal is an incredibly powerful mechanic because it allows players to deflect kill attempts from the enemy team.
Some examples of crowd control removal include

. All of these spells either remove or limit specific crowd control effects that are cast on party members. Many popular arena compositions focus on setting up kills by landing crowd control on enemy healers. Crowd control removal spells allow players to counter these kill attempts by giving teams more control in high pressure situations in arena.
Buff and Debuff Removal
Another form of utility is the ability to remove beneficial buffs from enemy players or being able to remove harmful debuffs from friendly players. Removing beneficial buffs from enemy players is very powerful, especially against teams with healers that rely on shield or healing over time effects to heal their partners. Being able to remove harmful debuffs is also incredibly powerful as it can minimize damage and even remove some forms of crowd control that can effect your team.
Every single hybrid specialization has a specific set of debuffs they can remove through an 8-second CD dispel effect. Shadow Priests are the only hybrid that can remove harmful magic effects from friendly players with

Mobility Buffs
Being mobile in PvP is incredibly advantageous as it allows you to either evade enemy attacks or engage fleeing enemy players. Being able to increase your teammates' mobility gives you an edge in the mobility race and gives your team more offensive and defensive options in PvP.
Some examples of mobility increasing spells include

. Having these spells available for your team allows you to kite more effectively and chase down slippery enemy targets.
Invisibility
Playing against classes that can turn invisible is often very intimidating for players in PvP, since invisibility is powerful in opening attacks. Rogues, Mages, and Druids rely on their invisibility to gain an early advantage in the beginning of an arena game (using

, respectively). There are a few spells that allow players to counteract these invisible classes and deflect attacks throughout arena matches.

are two spells that allow teams to counteract stealth. Breaking a Rogue out of stealth allows players to disrupt the Rogue’s opener and reverse pressure in the early stages of an arena match.
There is also one spell unique to Arcane Mages which allows the Mage to shroud their team with invisibility for a short duration.

is a powerful arena mechanic that allows the Mage and their teammates to land surprise attacks (usually through casted CC) on enemy players.
Health Increases
Being able to increase the health of your teammates as a non-healing class gives you more defensive options in PvP. Spells that increase health pools or restore HP are powerful tools that allow teams to counteract enemy kill attempts in situations where damage is unhealable, or where friendly healers are unable to act.

are examples of health increasing effects. These spells act as defensive cooldowns and are often used when other defensive resources have been exhausted.
Mana Increases
Although not a focal point in most arena matches, the mana bar is an important resource for teams - especially in long, drawn out games where dampening is high. Being able to conserve or restore healer mana bars gives teams increased longevity, especially in games where AoE damage is high.

are two spells that help healers conserve their mana. If Innervate is cast by a Balance Druid on a friendly healer, it will also increase the healer's haste by 10% through the

artifact trait. This allows the healer to pump out hasted heals at zero mana cost, which is excellent for dealing with high damage situations.
Damage and Healing Increases
Being able to increase your team's damage is an incredibly useful tool in today’s arena meta. Increasing your team's total damage during kill attempts gives you an increased chance to score a kill on the enemy team. Team damage increases are often paired with individual offensive cooldowns for a cooldown stacking effect, in which players will be doing the maximum damage possible. On the other hand, offering a healing increase to your party members allows your team to deal with enemy offensive cooldowns. In any case, damage and healing increases are excellent tools for both creating pressure on the enemy team and deflecting pressure from your team.

Damage and Healing Reduction
Limiting enemy damage is a strong option to have, especially when the enemy team is using major offensive cooldowns. Some spells that decrease damage taken include

. These abilities give your team more durability and are important for counteracting spikes in enemy damage.
Healing reduction effects are very valuable in arena and are the backbone of some arena compositions. Being able to reduce enemy healing taken while also damaging enemy players adds another layer of pressure to an offensive toolkit. It is often difficult for healers to deal with enemy cooldowns by themselves, especially if the target they are mending is taking reduced healing. Some spells that reduce healing include
