Slam is more suited for Arms warriors who use slow 2h weapons. Its best in solo PVE and group PVE where you arent tank. The casting time may seem bad but it means nothing as long as it doesnt take longer than your weapon speed (meaning ur wasting time where u can attack)

If casters can stand still for 3 seconds while casting a basic spell then you can stand still for 1 and a half. yOu don't even have to spec in Fury or a twohanded weapon to get the most out of this skill.
An arms warrior could Mortal strike, activate Heroic strike, then slam.
You will instantly attack then follow up with a slam. once the slam is complete you will then have your regular attack with the Heroic strike bonus
If timed correctly, even a dual wielder can use this ability to it's fullest.

Is similar to Mortal Strike. There are three differences between the two:
-1-1.5 second cast time
-15 Rage cost (instead of 30)
-Less bonus damage
The advantage of both Slam and Mortal Strike is that they work independently of your autoattack timer. While you're Slamming your opponent, your autoattack is cooling down. Of course, with Slam, you can't actually unleash the autoattack until you're done casting, but that's not usually a big deal.
The reason for Slam's existance is so that Fury Warriors using big 2H weapons have a rage dump that isn't on cooldown or dependent on the autoattack timer. Waiting for Heroic Strike on a 3.80 speed weapon would be laughable--so you use Slam.
And coupled with the rage generation and crit-based talents in the Fury line, it can be a very potent ability in both PvE and PvP. It takes a lot more finesse to use properly in PvP, though, since you using it reduces your manueverability.

I used this Skill once and never again, because it had this horrible casting time.
But I also think it's not even so bad for Tauren Warriors (like mine),cause you can do a Warstomp and then use this skill (expecting you spent enough talent points ro reduce it's casting time to 1 sec).
The warstomp will stun every enemy around you for 2 seconds, so you can use this skill, maybe even twice.
Still I don't like the skill and probably won't use it ever again^^

Using a 30/21 Fury/Defense build, This should be deadly with good timing. Concussive Blow , then Slam the crap outta them :)
Theory only however, i don't have a slow enough weapon to try this out on yet,

As kensai to say,perhaps 21/30 arms/fury (talent tree)is a nice choise.
Arms can built sweeping,and 2hws.I think it's much more powerful than 30/21 fury/defense in the RAID.
But one thing is certain,make sure the monster never attack you when you are slamming.so i like slam after strikes from monsters.
And The Unstoppable Force must be the relic of the slamer.

so does this spell have a cooldown i mean can u use it right after u've used it
and i've heard that it resets ur swing so does that mean that u will do white damage right after u've used slam

when you are dps'ing in a raid, this can be a viable option for dealing damage while not causing threat as with heroic strike. When i'm dps'ing in Molten Core, the last thing I want to do is use get a big crit heroic strike and pull aggro on a molten destroyer. From what people say, this ability does not interfere with your normal weapon timer so when your done casting it you get your swings back (i guess).

PvE this skill can OWN, save up some rage and slam the hell out of them, but its only for when your not getting hit...like say when your a dps warrior inside of MC, this build is meant for just that.

why this isn't FAR and AWAY the best ability to use with a slow 2hander in the VAEL fight until he hits 20%?
it keeps my threat low until executes lights up and then i do that non-stop. by the end of the fight i am top 5 in damage and never get above tanks in threat.

Slam is the single best ability for warrior damage dealing pve period. Especially with talents in improving it.
But heroic strike does as much if not more damage for the same rage!
True, but it relies on the auto-attack timer, making it much slower, and on something stupid slow, like say whirlwind axe, the extra 60 or so damage at the time you get the axe isn't a big deal- that's like 10-15 dps more.
But if you get hit then the cast time is slower!
True, but (and this is especially true with improved) how many mobs in the game attack faster than 1 second? even if you get hit the cast might be set back .1 second, still bringing it in well below 1.5 second cast- and on the before mentioned whirlwind, at 1.5 second cast that triples the dps of the weapon (ie 5-600 dps at level 40, a little less with no talents in slam. Oh, and lets not forget the autoattack is still running, so you might get a hit right after.
Yes, its not for tanking, and honestly, when you have aggro abilities, you'd be dumb to use it. Slam is not the ability to use all the time. But if you are solo, or dps'ing, there is no other warrior ability that offers as much dps. Not even your precious MS, because it unfortunately has a cooldown.
So do the math, figure out its best use, and put slam to use. You won't be sorry (unless you use a weapon with a fast attack speed, then stick with heroic strike)

The global cooldown shown above is the sum of cooldown and use, isn it?
So it may be now 0.5s if you improve your slam talent.
But if it isnt, there is no problem because 1.5s is normally the time to get another 15 rage points if you are a fury warrior.
Moreover, being 0.5s to cast skill, it is now practically usable even in pvp combats.
I will try it now, before the storm patch. With such a short casting time is nice, before the patch, it was somewhat unusable except given the right circumstances.
Now Slam is perhaps usable always, if you have the 15 rage that it costs. Obviously Slam is only interesting to use when your are wielding ultraslow 2h weapons, as the Unstoppable Force is, which indeed, stuns often the target for 1s. If it stacks with Slam it can be deadly as nothing. Well, I have The Unstoppable enchanted with crusader.
I will post if the combo is Overkill or not in some days...
By the way. How much dps deals an Arms warrior using 2handed ultraslow weapons? Here has been said that slam is to accomodate 2h slow weapons in the fury line. But in fact, I changed my talents to Arms to use the Unstoppable and using a good combo of MS, HS and talents improving 2h, I got a median 150dps typical maximus 200-250. It is not sufficient for me.
With fury cutting edege talents (without using Slam), I got a median 200dps and maximus of 300-400 fighting alone. But, it must be said, I use also impale from the arms line.
I think that Arms is not the ultraslow 2h dps martial way. Makes you a pretty aceptable fighter, but a bad dps warrior.
Berserker, Fury and Impale from arms, is the way.
While in flurry and with a shaman's windfury, this combo deals 400-600dps during long periods of time. If you use also cleave and whirldwind... you get 600dps very easily.
And now you can also Slam 0.5s.... time will say if this warrior build works or not with the new Improved Slam.

I've compared using this to using other attacks, and I can always squeeze more DPS out of other attacks than this one. And .5 sec might be fast, but it's still not fast enough when your tank is having to constantly move a target around, and it's WAY to slow when PVP'ing.

playing on TWH, a warr there has might of menethil and I dueled him with my rogue (just for fun) though the 2,5k slam wasn't fun at all! once again: OUCH!

And the reason is, even if you're fury, you build your rage, pop on a high max damage 2h, and you can quickly slam all that rage away and pop your 1h's back on. Slam is an amazing skill, it's only problem is that is will gimp your rage generation while you use it. But, at elast for me, when I got my attacks off with 90 more damage, in 2.3 less seconds, I didn't really mind. And the idea behind improved slam is not to let you spam it alot faster, being as there's a global coodown. Getting it off in .5 instead of 1.5 (used) to make it alot easier to use (cuz of damage), but the real usage is that when you get it off in .5 instead of 1.5, your autoattack (and therefore rage generation) begins earlier.
ie: more damage, and more rage (and more rage = more damage)

Slam is the useless thing in the wow.
I Have full grandmarshal set, and I tried it once again now... I've gotten about 60 rage, and started slamming, got few hits for 500 and didnt see any white damage while doing so, my dps with this crap was about 300. When I learned this ability on low lvl I immediatly removed it from the bar, and Im sad this ability as crap as it was 2 years ago.

you dont understand how to use slam then if u think its crap..its a pve attack. with BC out druids and pallies can tank just as well or better then warrios in some cases..so that leaves warriors for dps..and when warrors have no aggro it can hit the boss or mob every 1.5 or .5 sec (depening on the spec) it works better with 2h weaps because your already hitting pretty fast with 1h weaps. this attack is like a weak mortal strike and its just like heroric strike but can be used ever 1.5 or .5 sec. white dmg sometimes dosnt show up. but that dosnt mean that you doing not white dmg.

this is a 2H warrior abbility and it causes no threat at all just slam and ull get enough rage to do it again 1.5 sec cast time instead of waiting 3.40 or more seconds to attack with your slow weapon with Heroic Strike

with talents you can make it a 0,5 sec cast so its still useful in PvP because i doubt any class will manage to run 5-10 yards in 0,5sec with hamstering on. Besides 0,5sec is way to fast for any druid/pala/rouge to run out of range.

I used to think slam was the biggest piece of crap in a warrior's arsenal. Then I specced with it reduced to a .5 cast time, downloaded the attack bar timer addon and timed my slams in synch with white hits so that my dps was essentially doubled. Do this with a slow 2 hander and you will see warrior dps you could only DREAM of.

slam resets swing timer so to use slam correctly you need to start casting it right after your white swing hits.
if you just spam it it doesnt do much good. slam is especially bad if you start casting it right before a white swing hits which means you actually increased the time between swings and lost any rage you would have potentially made off the white swing. i see alot of people thinking this skill is godly but use it in a way which only gimps them.
still in terms of rage to damage ratio its...
overpower > mortal strike > whirlwind > slam

High level hunters will be familiar with the 'rotation' technic.
(Auto attack) -> Bash -> (auto attack) ... -> Execute
As above mentioned, this would only work with a 2 hander =)

Utter ownage if you have a super slow weap, for both abilities. A fury warrior at lvl 39 with pendulum of doom would be sick (4 sec attack speed).
But also, in pvp you can get MS, second wind, sweeping strikes, and imp. slam all together at level 70. Just imagine using Slam in between MS while its on CD while using stormherald, mace spec, and the metagem that stuns. Combine this all and you have some sick dps/crippling power, in pve OR pvp.
